(alm) Supplementary Reports: WARWICK FARM (TRACKWORK): Thursday, 15 November 2017 Somashini the Stewards today concluded their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Somashini (NZ) rearing over in the stable, striking her head and collapsing. Evidence tonight was taken from trainer Mr B Baker along with written evidence from Dr T Selig, Racing NSW veterinarian, and a necropsy report was also tendered by Dr M Gimeno, University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden. In the interim, veterinary and treatment records were sourced from the Baker stable with no areas of concern found. It was found on the evidence that Somashini reared over in its stable and struck its head and despite a veterinary surgeon being called immediately, it was confirmed that the horse was deceased. The necropsy found that Somashini suffered catastrophic fractures of the skull and neck which led to the sudden death of the mare. As there was no pre-existing condition that could have caused or contributed to the circumstances surrounding the death of Somashini, the matter was concluded. RANDWICK (TRACKWORK): Tuesday, 26 December 2017 Purrari the Stewards today concluded their inquiries into the reason for Purrari (G Waterhouse and A Bott) collapsing during trackwork on 26 December Evidence tonight was taken from co- Trainer Mr A Bott. Written evidence was tendered by Dr T Selig, Racing NSW veterinarian, along with a necropsy report from Dr M Gimeno, University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden. Following Purrari collapsing, veterinary and treatment records were sourced from the Waterhouse/Bott stable with no areas of concern found. Whilst the exact cause of death was not able to be established, having regard to the evidence from Dr Selig, the findings at necropsy were not inconsistent with cardiac failure and as there was no pre-existing condition found that could have caused or contributed to the sudden collapse of Purrari, the matter was concluded. WARWICK FARM: Wednesday, 17 January 2018 RACE 2 Casino Prince@Vinery Handicap 1400m Art Of More App L Magorrian was fined $200 under LR70 for failing to claim his full allowance and being subsequently replaced as the rider of Art Of More. LATE RIDING CHANGES: As J Adams was indisposed due to illness, the following rider substitution was permitted by the Stewards: Race 6 Alart J Parr J Adams was advised that he would be required to furnish a doctor s clearance prior to riding again.

2 Race 1 Australian Turf Club Handicap 1200m Marmaris after beginning awkwardly, Marmaris was bumped heavily and became unbalanced by Positive Peace, which in turn was bumped and became unbalanced by Fun Fact, which shifted out abruptly on jumping. As a result of this, both Fun Fact and Positive Peace were steadied and taken across and behind runners after the start from their wide barriers. Marmaris raced very keenly in the early and middle stages and refused to settle when its rider endeavoured to shift behind runners after the start. As a result of this, Marmaris was allowed to stride forward by its rider near the first turn and ultimately raced wide and without cover throughout. Everard slow to begin. Everard, when closing the race off fairly, was obliged to shift around the heels of Misteed in order to continue into clear running. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The Enzo slow to begin. Misteed was briefly held up rounding the home turn. Passing the 50m, Misteed was accidently struck over the nose by the whip of C Reith, the rider of Sandbar. Misteed, approaching the winning post, raced in restricted room and was unable to be tested when crowded between Marmaris and Sandbar, which shifted out slightly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Picaro after W Costin crossed to the lead near the 800m, she steadied the tempo for a short distance. As a result of this, Misteed, which was already overracing, improved onto the heels of Picaro and was checked passing the 800m. Everard, Fun Fact and Positive Peace, which were trailing, were all hampered to varying degrees as a result. W Costin was advised that she must ensure that she does not slacken the tempo to such an extent so that riders find it difficult to react to the change in pace. Sandbar a post race veterinary examination revealed Sandbar had lost its off fore plate. RACE 2 TAB Handicap 1100m Beep Beep began awkwardly. Rounding the first turn, Beep Beep laid out, and when being corrected by its rider, shifted back in, resulting in Maui Princess having to be steadied. Near the 500m, Beep Beep became unbalanced after making contact with the running rail. Yoelqui after being only fairly away, was steadied and taken back in and across runners after the start from its wide barrier. When questioned regarding the performance of Yoelqui, J Bowditch advised that, as anticipated, the horse settled towards the rear of the field, however never travelled comfortably throughout and in his view, raced somewhat flat. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Squaw Peak hung in in the straight and proved difficult to ride. Over the final stages, Squaw Peak then shifted back out, resulting in Maui Princess being hampered in the run to the finish. Near the 50m, Squaw Peak was eased and shifted to the outside of the heels Charlayne (H Bowman), which shifted in when hanging. H Bowman was advised to exercise more care. Maui Princess near the 150m, was eased and obliged to shift out around the heels of Squaw Peak when that runner continued to hang in despite the efforts of its rider. When questioned, App R King said her instructions were, from her good draw, to be positive and if possible, try and hold the lead. After beginning well, she rode her mount along in the early and middle stages, however the filly did not show sufficient speed to hold the lead and when Beep Beep showed a superior turn of foot, it was able to cross her runner and take up the running near the 800m. Charlayne laid in when under pressure in the straight obliging its rider to change the whip into his right hand near the 150m.

3 RACE 3 #Theraces Handicap 1900m Godunov was slow to begin and then was steadied and taken back in and across runners after the start from its wide barrier. Corinth was slow to begin and then was steadied and taken back in and across runners after the start from its wide barrier. When Pickelhaube shifted to the outside of Jarrett to improve, Corinth was hampered and carried wider. Colesberg was slow to begin and then was steadied and taken back in and across runners after the start from its wide barrier. Dark Dream near the 150m, ran out abruptly resulting in B Avdulla having to stop and straighten his mount. Jarrett raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Shortly after straightening, Jarrett was hampered when Pickelhaube shifted in slightly. Near the 150m, Jarrett was briefly tightened for room by Campaign, which shifted out. Campaign shortly after straightening, was hampered when Pickelhaube shifted in slightly. Pickelhaube approaching the 100m, shifted out away from Dark Dream resulting in Colesberg, who was endeavouring to shift to that horse s outside, being obliged to shift wider and in so doing, hampered Corinth. RACE 4 Tab.com.au Handicap 1250m Balius slow to begin. Tamarack was steadied and taken back in and across runners shortly after the start from its wide barrier. Al Mah Haha began awkwardly and made contact with It's So Obvious. It's So Obvious raced ungenerously in the early stages. Inquiry raced keenly in the lead in the early and middle stages. Inquiry was inclined to shift out under pressure in the straight obliging its rider, G Schofield, to stop and straighten his mount near the 50m. Canberra a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 5 Win $10k Cash At Canterbury Nights Handicap 1100m Under The Thumb was slow to begin. Wide Acclaim raced wide and without cover throughout. Just Got Lucky began very awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with Cadogan, which was hampered and lost ground. De La Hoya rounding the first turn, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Imperial Eagle. De La Hoya was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight. Imperial Eagle approaching the 150m, was briefly tightened for room by Just Got Lucky which shifted in. Cadogan when questioned, T Clark advised that as the horse has raced previously, the instructions were to have Cadogan race midfield or worse. He added that after he suffered some interference at the start, Cadogan settled towards the rear of the field and was unable to hold a prominent position in

4 what he viewed as a race run in an genuine tempo. When questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn, T Clark advised that when Under The Thumb commenced to shift wider, he followed the movement of that horse, however, on straightening, when he endeavoured to shift to the outside of the heels of Wide Acclaim to secure clear ground, Wide Acclaim and Under The Thumb both shifted slightly and as a result of this, he was obliged to steady when disappointed for that position. He added that he then shifted back to the inside of the heels of Wide Acclaim in order to follow Prince Mayted, which he felt was still making some ground, however he was held up until nearing the 150m where once clear, in his view, Cadogan sprinted for only a short distance before peeking on its run near the 50m. RACE 6 TAB Rewards Handicap 1100m Pandeia began very awkwardly and made contact with Luiza. Rounding the turn, passing the 600m, Pandeia made contact with the running rail. Soothing after being slow to begin, was steadied and taken back in and across runners from its wide barrier. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Alart after being slow to begin, was steadied and taken back in and across runners from its wide barrier. Luiza a post race veterinary examination of Luiza, which was resuming from a spell and raced keenly in the middle stages, revealed the filly to be lame (2/5) in the near fore leg. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Luiza racing again. Phoenix Claws a post race veterinary examination of Phoenix Claws, which hung out noticeably from the 500m revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer D Pfieffer was advised that Phoenix Claws would now incur the mandatory three month ban from racing under AR53A. Soothing when questioned regarding the performance of Soothing, B Avdulla advised that from his wide draw, the filly was slow to begin and obliged to settle towards the rear of the field. He added when Phoenix Claws hung, he was obliged to make a long run covering ground rounding the home turn and in his view, was not advantaged bearing in mind most of the winners had been ridden prominently. He added that he was not overly disappointed with the performance of the horse bearing in mind these circumstances. RACE 7 Schweppes Evening Star 1550m Mr Spin when caught wide in the early stages, was restrained towards the rear of the field to gain cover. Wahng Wah began only fairly and then was crowded for room between Pianissimo and Francesco. Red Dream was slow to begin (2L). Oltre Finito was ridden along in the early stages to hold a prominent position. Oltre Finito was inclined to race keenly and laid out at various stages in the early and middle stages. On straightening, Oltre Finito was disappointed for a run between Hammond Lane and Sculptures, which shifted in slightly. Oltre Finito was then obliged to shift out around the heels of Sculptures to continue into clear running. Tennessee Hussy raced keenly in the lead in the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Pianissimo had some difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and did not fully obtain sufficient room to improve until nearing the 200m.

5 Hammond Lane a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 8 Book ATC Summer Hospitality Today Handicap 1900m Fantastic Man on jumping, was crowded for room between More Moet and Fireman Sam I Am. Fantastic Man raced wide and without cover in the early and middle stages. Go Benny began awkwardly and shifted out across the heels of More Moet. Queen Of Heights raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Fireman Sam I Am near the 700m, laid in away from Rex Bell, resulting in Mate Story being briefly tightened for room and striking the running rail. Queen Of Heights, which was trailing, was checked as a result. When giving ground rounding the home turn, Fireman Sam I Am laid out. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Balmain Boy near the 200m, was briefly crowded for room by Lord Macau, which shifted in. When corrected by its rider, Lord Macau then shifted out and tightened Rex Belle, which was giving ground. Mate Story was held up rounding the home turn and lost ground behind the tiring Rex Bell until passing the 200m. Magical Stance when questioned, C Reith advised his instructions had been to have the horse ridden off the speed, but trainer Mr R Quinton advised him not to make too much use of the horse as the horse has a tendency to overrace as it did at its most recent start. After beginning only fairly, he attempted to secure the position trailing Queen Of Heights, however with the tempo in the race strong, he was unable to do so and ultimately, rounding the turn near the 1300m, when Balmain Boy shifted towards the rail, he was unable to again improve sufficiently to hold that position and ultimately settled somewhat further back than he had hoped. He added that rounding the home turn, he commenced to shift out in order to secure clear running, however whilst he was briefly held up prior to straightening, when clear in the straight, Magical Stance finished its race off well. Lord Macau rider A Hyeronimus advised following the race that his mount felt awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative Mr N Paine was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing. Rex Bell was slow to begin. When questioned, H Bowman advised that after he was able to obtain a nice trailing position off midfield in the early stages, when the tempo steadied, he shifted out to a position trailing Fantastic Man, which was racing three wide without cover at that point. He added, however, that when Fantastic Man shifted towards the rail and was able to obtain a position one off, this left him without cover and as he felt that Rex Bell may have been somewhat one paced, he allowed the horse to stride forward and race outside the leader in the middle stages. He added however, Rex Bell was never racing comfortably throughout this stage of the race and he was not overly disappointed with the performance having regard to the way the race was run. He added in hindsight, it may have been more preferable to remain racing in the trailing position as opposed to making the mid-race move. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. GENERAL: Summary of whip use The Stewards noted the following rider exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii): Race App R King (Wahng Wah) 6 strikes Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.

6 Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Marmaris, Sandbar, The Enzo, Fun Fact. Race 2: Charlayne, Squaw Peak. Race 3: Colesberg, Godunov, Jarrett, Campaign. Race 4: Tamarack, It s So Obvious, Al Mah Haha. Race 5: Imperial Eagle, Under The Thumb, Just Got Lucky. Race 6: Alart, Phoenix Claws, Geneteau, Soothing. Race 7: Pianissimo, Red Dream, Wahng Wah. Race 8: Rex Bell, Fireman Sam I Am, Mate Story, Balmain Boy. SUMMARY Fines: Warwick Farm ( ) App L Magorrian (Art Of More) $200 overweight [LR70].
