All exhibitors must wear ASTM -approved head gear with the chin strap fastened at all times when mounted on the show grounds. Concessions will be provided on the show grounds. All schooling is at your own risk. All dogs must be on leashes while on the show grounds. Directions: From Charlottesville On Route 29S, take the Madison Heights/Sweet Briar College exit. Go two miles past the college entrance. Turn right just before the Best Bet/Citgo service station onto Rt. 663/Smokey Hollow Rd. Go about one mile, bearing right at the fork. At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for the Harriet Rogers Riding Center. Turn right. From Lynchburg - On Route 29N Business go about ten miles past the James River to Faulconerville. After the Excel Station (on right), get in the left lane. Turn left at the Best Bet/Citgo station, driving across Route 29S onto Route 663/Smokey Hollow Road. Go about one mile, bearing right at the fork. At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for the Harriet Rogers Riding Center. Turn right. From South of Lynchburg - On Route 29 N just past the Lynchburg airport, exit onto 460 East towards Appomattox. Take exit for 29 N Bypass (Charlottesville/ Amherst). Exit at Route 29 Business/Amherst/Sweet Briar College. At the end of the exit turn left to go toward Sweet Briar College/Madison Heights. Go two miles past the college entrance. Turn right just before the Best Bet/Citgo service station onto Rt. 663/Smokey Hollow Rd. Go about one mile, bearing right at the fork. At the bottom of a fairly steep hill you will see a sign for the Harriet Rogers Riding Center. Turn right. Parking: 1) Please watch for and follow parking signs. 2) Large trailers and horse vans may turn around in the parking area behind the indoor. 3) Large trailers and horse vans may park on the East side of the Riding Center or 90th Annual Horse Show Trophies The Fayette-Brown Challenge Trophy Awarded to the Sweet Briar rider who has demonstrated the best horsemanship and sportsmanship throughout the show. To be selected by a panel of judges that will include the horse show judge. SCHOOLING All riders must sign a waiver or entry form before schooling or riding on the grounds. All schooling is at your own risk. The Ring will be open for schooling from 6:45-7:45 AM the day of the show. The day prior to the show, schooling will be allowed from 4:00 PM to

3 EQUITATION CLASSES SWVHJA Adult Equitation on the Flat Open to amateurs 18 years of age and older. To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. Judged on position, control, and guidance. USEF tests 1-19 may be used, excluding those requiring work over fences. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete. If there are insufficient entries, this class may be combined with the Junior Equitation on the Flat. SWVHJA Junior Equitation on the Flat Open to junior riders who have not reached their 18th birthday as of December 1st. To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. Judged on position, control, and guidance. USEF tests 1-19 may be used. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete. If there are insufficient entries, this class may be combined with the Adult Equitation on the Flat. Will be split by age(15 17 & 14 and Under). Riders must stay within their age group. SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal Class Open to riders who have not reached their 18 th birthday as of Dec. 1 st of the calendar year. To be shown over a course of fences not to exceed 3 that must include two changes of direction, a combination and at least three oxers. A minimum of six riders, if available, must be called back to work on the flat. Martingales may not be used in the flat phase. Each phase will count 50%. Same horse must be used for both phases. To qualify for the finals, a rider must accumulate 20 points. Four entries are required to fill the class with a minimum of three to complete the class. If there are fewer than four entries, this class can be combined with the Adult Medal. SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal contestants may compete throughout the year. The top twenty(20) point earners, with a minimum of 10 points, will be invited to compete in the Hunter Seat Medal Finals. Riders must be a member of SWVHJA. SWVHJA Adult Medal Class Same specs as the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal Class except open to amateur riders 18 years of age and older. Ponies may be ridden by adults, but may not be shown in the Pony Hunter Division at the same horse show. If there are fewer than four entries, this class can be combined with the Hunter Seat Medal. SWVHJA Adult Medal contestants may compete throughout the year. The top twenty(20) point earners, with a minimum of 10 points, will be invited to compete in the Adult Medal Finals. Riders must be a member of SWVHJA. Randolph College Hunter Seat Medal Open to junior and amateur riders who have not qualified for the SWVHJA Hunter Seat, SWVHJA Adult or Oak Ridge Medal during the existing or previous year; qualifiers for the pony medal are still eligible. Winners of any 3 finals are prohibited from competing. The previous year s Randolph Medal winner is not eligible to compete in the finals the following year, but may still continue to show in the Randolph medal for that year. The top fifteen (plus ties) point earners from qualifying classes held through the year will compete. The class will consist of two phases, eah counting 50% of the total score. First phase shall be shown over a course of not less than eight fences at 2 6. Course must contain two changes of direction after the first fence and will not contain a combination. The second phase shall be shown on the flat at the walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. Judges may choose from USEF test Same horse must be used for both phases. Martingales permitted in flat phase. Four (4) entries are required (with at least three entries completing the over fences phase) to count for points. This class is not sanctioned or recognized by the SWVHJA, Inc. Oak Ridge Medal Class Open to juniors and amateurs. Over fences phase will consist of a USEF-type equitation, A-O/JR jumper course of at least ten fences at least 3 0 to 3 3 with spreads to 4 0. The course must include a triple combination or two double combinations. A Liverpool may be used, and a time allowed (345 yards/min.) may be used in the first round. In the flat phase, competitors will show as a group at all the working gaits and the working canter on the counter canter lead for at least one full revolution of the arena in both directions. But not more than 12 riders to counter canter at a time. Flat phase to count 50%, and must run first. Top ten riders from the flat phase will be called back for the second phase; jump order to be chosen by the judge; over fences phase to count 50%. Restrictions: no martingales of any kind are permitted in the flat phase. Only properly fitted running martingales are permitted in the over fences phase. Same horse must be used in both phases; change of bridle permissible between phases. Gags and hackamores are permitted except in flat phases. Correct attire required. At least three riders must complete the course to fill the class. Judges may require additional tests (USEF tests 1-19). For complete specifications, call (540) Sweet Briar College Medal Open to juniors and amateurs. To be shown over a course of no less than six jumps set at 2 9. Course must include two changes of direction, and may contain an in and out. The judge will then have the option of testing the top four riders. Tests 1-10 may be used. The same horse must be used in both phases. Three competitors must complete the course for points to count. Riders may not have shown in a 3 6 or higher equitation medal class, and may not jump higher than 2 9 at the same show. Entries: Six ribbons will be awarded in each class. Championship and Reserve Championship ribbons will be awarded in each hunter division. Ribbons can be picked up at the announcer s stand. Three entries, unless otherwise stated, are necessary to fill a class. Entry forms must be filled out completely, including all classes or divisions entered, signatures and organization or membership numbers before numbers can be issued. A negative Coggins within 12 months of the show is required and must be presented to Show Secretary or faxed with entry. AN OPEN CHECK IS REQUIRED BEFORE NUMBERS CAN BE PICKED UP. Pre-Entry - Must be entered by 3PM the Friday before the show. Entries received after 3PM the Friday before the show will be charged a $10.00 office fee. No phone entries. Fences 2 6 and 2 9 SWVHJA Adult & Junior Hunter Pleasure Horse Open to horses shown with hunter tack on the flat ridden by an adult or Junior. Classes to be offered are Walk/Go As you Please, Walk/ Trot and Walk/Trot/Canter. No over fences classes will count toward this division. It is acceptable for SWVHJA Horse shows to combine the Adult Hunter Pleasure and the Junior Pleasure Hunter divisions, however, it is the show secretary s responsibility to indicate on the results which is the adult rider and which is the junior rider. If entries warrant, the Hunter Pleasure pony division may be combined with the junior hunter pleasure division and the adult hunter pleasure horses division. To be judged on manners, suitability, and way of going. For year end points to accrue, three entries must enter and compete in all three classes of the division. SWVHJA Junior Hunter Pleasure Horse Same specs as the Adult Hunter Pleasure Horse except open to Junior riders. 5 EQUINE ACTIVITY RELEASE / WAIVER, ASSUMPTION OF RISKS AND INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT (the Agreement ) I, as participant or parent or guardian of participant, acknowledge that equine activities are athletic activities that pose potentially serious risk of injuries or death to participants in equine activities. I acknowledge that there are certain intrinsic dangers or conditions that are an integral part of equine activities, including but not limited to, (i) the propensity of equines to behave in ways that may result in injury, harm, or death to persons on or around them; (ii) the unpredictability of an equine's reaction to such things as sounds, sudden movement, and unfamiliar objects, persons, or other animals; (iii) certain hazards such as surface and subsurface conditions; (iv) collisions with other animals or objects; and (v) the potential of a participant acting in a negligent manner that may contribute to injury to the participant or others, such as failing to maintain control over the equine or not acting within the participant's ability (collectively, Intrinsic Dangers of Equine Activities ). I understand that participants in equine activities may be injured or killed as a result of their own negligence, the negligence of others or through no fault of participant or anyone else. In consideration of Sweet Briar College (the College ) allowing participant to participate in equine activities at the College, on behalf of myself and my heirs, successors, and assigns I hereby release and waive any rights to make any claim against the College, its employees, agents and representatives for any loss, damage, injury, or death to person or property sustained by participant in equine activities by any cause whatsoever, including but not limited to, (i) the Intrinsic Dangers of Equine Activities; (ii) the experience level of any participant; (iii) a known or unknown health condition of any participant; and/or (iv) the condition and age of equipment or tack. I hereby acknowledge and assume all of the foregoing risks and any other risks inherent in equine activities and accept complete responsibility for making any and all examinations or inspections relating to those risks and any other potential risks of recreational activities, and I agree and understand that the College shall have no responsibility whatsoever to make any such examination or inspection. I further assume all risk of participating in equine activities, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless the College, its employees, representatives and agents from and against, all of the foregoing claims and any and all loss, damage, injury, or death to person or property by whatever cause including any act or omission negligent or otherwise, on the part of the College, its employees, representatives or agents, or on the part of any other person arising from or related to participation in equine activities.. With this waiver, I accept notice of the provisions of the Virginia Equine Activity Liability Act, Va. Code through This waiver shall remain valid unless and until revoked in writing by the participant or the parent or guardian of any minor signing below, with receipt acknowledged by the College. I hereby certify that the statements and representations in this Agreement are being made by me knowingly, freely, and voluntarily, and I understand that the College is expressly relying upon the foregoing statements and representations in permitting my/my child s participation in any equine activities. In consideration of the acceptance of my entry by the Sponsor and the right granted to me to participate in and attend the Show and related activities, I do herby assume all of the above risks, and agree that, in the event of any injury to me as a result of an accident which occurs during my involvement and participation in the show, my recovery against the Sponsor, shall be limited to a claim for medical expenses incurred as a result of the injury, and only to the extent that such medical expenses are not otherwise covered or paid by my insurance coverage, medical or otherwise. Furthermore, for this consideration, I agree to present any claim for personal injury to the Sponsor within six (6) months from the date of injury: if I fail to do so, I agree that I will have waived any and all rights I have to recover against the Sponsor for said injury. Additionally, in consideration and acceptance of my entry by the Sponsor and the right to participate in and attend the Show and related activities, I consent to receive any and all emergency medical treatment as may be deemed appropriate under the existing circumstances as then determined by the Sponsor or its agents. I also grant Sweet Briar College permission to use my likeness, voice, and words in television, radio, film, or in any form to promote activities at Sweet Briar College. I also understand that there will be no refunds. (Following portion pertains only to parents or guardian of a participant who is 17 years of age or younger.)
