Shortly after the start Imanana was inconvenienced by Mount Zero, which shifted out slightly, and then hampered May s Dream. Imanana and Godiva Rock both had a tendency to over-race in the early stages. Rounding the home turn Solicit was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Za Moulin Rouge was unable to obtain a clear run. Near the 150m Godiva Rock shifted in away from May s Dream and made heavy contact with Mount Zero resulting in both horses getting unbalanced. Mount Zero then shifted in and made contact with the hindquarters of Antarctic Missile and this resulted in Za Moulin Rouge, which was following, being inconvenienced. Whilst these incidents were unfolding May s Dream, which was making ground,

2 quickly shifted in near the 100m when not fully clear of Godiva Rock which had to be eased to avoid that horse s heels. In all the circumstances no direct action was taken other than to issue B Melham (May s Dream) with a severe reprimand for failing to make an effort to keep his mount on a straight course. Over the concluding stages Solicit and May s Dream brushed due to both horses shifting ground. A post race veterinary examination of Godiva Rock failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Race 2 F VITALE & SONS 3YO HANDICAP metres: In the early and middle stages Ticket To Toorak had a tendency to over-race. Near the 600m Believe Me shifted out and inconvenienced Le Mans. Near the 500m Trouble In Vegas shifted in and bushed Orion (NZ) resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Near the 300m Celeritas was held up when unable to obtain clear running before switching to the inside near the 200m to gain an unimpeded run. B Melham (Ticket To Toorak) reported that the colt may have got its tongue over the bit and has suggested to the trainer a gear change for its next start. A post race veterinary examination of Ticket To Toorak revealed no abnormalities. C Newitt (Le Mans) reported that the gelding hung out slightly throughout the race and in his opinion was not suited to the tight turning track. C Newitt further added that Le Mans also raced wide throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination of Le Mans revealed no abnormalities. The track was upgraded from Dead 4 to Good 3 at 1.00pm after the running of this race. Race 3 1PRINT.COM.AU HANDICAP metres: After the running of Race 2 trainer Mr K Bourke advised that Red Eye Special would be ridden forward today. Red Eye Special was ridden accordingly in behind the leaders. Mr Bourke was reminded of his obligations to ensure he notifies Stewards of any change of tactics at least thirty minutes prior to the advertised starting time of the race. In the middle stages Crafty Cruiser raced wide without cover before taking up a position outside the leader near the 1500m. Race 4 TOP CUT STOCKS STAKES (Group 2) metres: Acting on a report from the Compliance Assurance Team, it was established that Ava s Delight had been transported from its registered stables at Wangoom to Mr Weir s stables at Ballarat on Friday afternoon without having lodged the appropriate horse movement form. Having had the benefit of Mr Weir s explanation, the Stewards did not take any direct action other than to issue him with a severe reprimand for him failing to lodge the appropriate form. Ava s Delight stood flat footed and missed the start by three lengths and trainer Mr D Weir was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare s record.

3 Keyarna Blue (NZ) was slow to begin. In the middle stages Keyarna Blue (NZ) had a tendency to over-race. M Walker (Keyarna Blue (NZ)) was reprimanded for his backhand whip use on a horse out of contention. K Mallyon (Bonne Nuit) explained after the race that it wasn t her intention to lead, which is against the mare s normal racing pattern, but was left with no option when her mount jumped away very well. Race 5 MITTY S MCEWEN STAKES (Group 2) metres: Glamour Planet (NZ) jumped away awkwardly resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced. Snitzem also jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start Glamour Planet (NZ) had to be checked to avoid the heels of Umgeton which shifted in away from Kuroshio. Freereturn was also hampered in the incident. Shafeeq raced wide without cover. Kuroshio hung out rounding the home turn. G Boss, rider of Snitzem which performed below market expectations, explained that due to the strong early tempo of the race he elected to ride the horse with cover however he over-raced in the middle stages. G Boss further explained that Snitzem would be better suited to leading in his next race start. A post-race endoscopy of Snitzem detected a degree of mucous that may have affected the horse s racing performance. S Baster could offer no explanation for the performance of Umgeton today. A post race veterinary examination of Umgeton revealed no abnormalities. Race 6 DATO TAN CHIN NAM STAKES (Group 2) metres: Acting on a report from the Compliance Assurance Team that Happy Trails may have been treated on race morning, evidence was taken from Stewards Mr Dion Vilella and Mr Kane Ashby, RV veterinary surgeon Dr Brian Stewart and the trainer of Happy Trails Mr Paul Beshara. Happy Trails was a late withdrawal at 2.40pm by order of Stewards under the provisions of AR50, which reads: All nominations and entries are subject to approval, and the Committee of any Club, or the Stewards, may decline to receive, or at any time after having received, reject any nomination or entry without giving any reason for so doing. If any nomination or entry be rejected under this Rule, the fees paid in respect thereof shall be refunded. An inquiry into the matter has been adjourned to a date to be fixed. Betting deductions: 14c in the dollar for doubles bets. Prior to the start of the meeting connections of Ajeeb (NZ) advised that with the addition of a barrier blanket today and the blinkers off, the horse would be ridden further back today. Ajeeb (NZ) was ridden accordingly. Prior to correct weight C Schofield rider of Bass Strait (NZ), fifth placegetter, viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Stewards were also satisfied there were insufficient grounds for an objection given the margin and the proximity to the winning post.

4 Hornet s Nest (GB) had to be re-saddled behind the barriers. Hornet s Nest (GB) was slow to begin. Bass Strait (NZ) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Ajeeb (NZ) resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Fiorente (IRE) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and hampered Lidari (FR). In the early stages Lidari (FR) got its head up when over-racing. Passing the 800m Fiorente (IRE) got its head up and had to be eased off the heels of Super Cool. Hornet s Nest (GB) raced wide without cover. Rounding the home turn Lidari (FR) was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Super Cool was held up when unable to obtain clear running. Rounding the home turn and until near the 150m Bass Strait (NZ) was held up when unable to obtain clear running. Throughout the race Hornet s Nest had a tendency to lay in. Over the concluding stages Bass Strait (NZ), which was making ground very quickly, had to be checked severely when tightened for room between Super Cool, which shifted out marginally and Spacecraft which shifted in. In assessing the incident the Stewards could not be satisfied that Bass Strait (NZ) had established a run prior to the shift from Spacecraft therefore no action was taken. Race 7 JEEP DON T HOLD BACK HANDICAP metres: Shortly after the start Smarty Mac had to be checked when tightened for room by Verdant (GB) which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 1000m Lord Pyrus (NZ) was inconvenienced when racing tight to the inside of Cheviot Beach which shifted in slightly. Near the 800m Fabriano shifted out across the heels of Tee Emar. Clear For Action raced wide without cover. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Verdant (GB) was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Also rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Extra Zero was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Mourinho hung out for a major part of the race. N Hall (Clear For Action) could offer no explanation for today s disappointing performance other than the gelding was caught wide.

5 A post race veterinary examination of Clear For Action failed to reveal any abnormal findings and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Race 8 DRUMMOND GOLF STAKES (Listed) metres: Yosei and That s The One were both slow to begin. Budriguez jumped away awkwardly resulting in its rider, D Gauci, becoming unbalanced. Budriguez then had a tendency to over-race in the early stages. Budriguez raced wide without cover. Near the 500m Lady Melksham shifted in and brushed Le Bonsir resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Over the concluding stages Yosei raced tight between Rusambo and Neeson. D Dunn, rider of Neeson which performed below market expectations, explained that his mount was not suited to the tight track conditions of Moonee Valley and would perform better on a bigger track. A post race veterinary examination of Neeson revealed no abnormalities. G Boss could offer no explanation for the poor performance of Lady Melksham. A post race veterinary examination of Lady Melksham revealed no abnormalities. C Williams could offer no explanation for the poor performance of Elite Elle today however believes that the mare will be better suited racing against fillies and mares. A post race veterinary examination of Elite Elle revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg and trainer Mr A Vasil was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Elite Elle racing again.
