1 STEWARDS REPORT Murrumbidgee Turf Club WAGGA WAGGA RACECOURSE Friday 1 May 2015 Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: True STEWARDS: T.J.Davidson (Chairman), T.J.Vassallo, T.P.Moxon & D.R.McLean (10u19b) General: Stewards interviewed trainer Mr B. Witt following a report from the RacingNSW Investigation & Surveillance Unit that Pointing To Gold, which was engaged in Race 3 today, was found to have a heamatoma to the near side neck in the vicinity of the jugular area. Mr Witt gave Stewards an assurance that the gelding had not received any treatment leading into the event. The Club s veterinary Dr D. Gollan gave evidence that in his opinion the swelling on the neck was not a recent event and was consistent with a treatment that Mr Witt stated was administered approximately 2 weeks earlier. Acting on this evidence, Stewards permitted Pointing To Gold to start in the event. The inquiry was adjourned to allow Stewards to obtain the results of post and pre-race urine and blood samples which were taken from the gelding to be sent for analysis. Mr Witt pleaded guilty to a charge under AR178F in that he failed to keep up to date treatment and medication records for horses under his care. Mr Witt was fined $300. When S. Clipperton was injured, Stewards permitted the following rider replacements: Race 2 H. Bowman on Snip Spur Race 7 H. Bowman on Gypsy Diamond Race 8 K. McEvoy on Hall Pass RACE 1: Maiden Plate 1200m: Angus Rock- Race wide throughout. Istanbul- Bumped on jumping. McHawi- Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post. Cherry Court- Slow to begin and then crowded shortly after. Fleuretta Brown- Hung out near the 900m. Steadied off heels near 800m after it laid outwards and Give It Away rolled in slightly. Give It Away- Laid outwards in the early part of the straight. Obvious Twist- A pre-race veterinary examination of the filly, which competed at yesterday s Murrumbidgee Turf Club meeting, found it suitable to race. Raced wide throughout.

2 Dream On Stan- Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. Raced very keenly in the early stages and was steadied off heels near the 1000m. RACE 2: Class 1 Handicap 1200m: Snip Spur- Hampered on jumping. Held up and unable to improve from the 400m until the 200m and was bumped twice near the 200m when it was taken outwards in an attempt to obtain clear running. Imperious- Slow to begin and then crowded shortly after. Held up in early part of straight. Complete Rort- Checked passing the 1000m. At a subsequent inquiry B. Loy(a) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that passing the 1000m he did permit Tothecoastandback to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of Complete Rort, which was checked and lost running to which it was entitled. B. Loy s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 10 May 2015 and to expire on Wednesday 20 May 2015, on which he may ride. Star Wars- Bumped on jumping. Greipel- Hampered on jumping. Steadied near 150m when crowded between Tothecoastandback and Miss Farloo, which was bumped outwards by Snip Spur. Tothecoastandback- Hampered on jumping. Good Luck Charlie- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Commenced to hang out from 1000m when crossed by Snip Spur. Cabramurra Lad- Blundered on jumping and then shifted outwards. Wine And Chocolate- Slow to begin. Dust Devil- Bumped on jumping. Choisziata- Raced wide throughout. RACE 3: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1300m: Nights On Fire- Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Poncherello- Raced greenly in the straight. Inigo- Raced wide throughout. Steadied near 250m when disappointed for a run between Bright Move and Nights On Fire, which shifted in slightly. RACE 4: Class 3 Handicap 1000m: Short Shift- Bumped on jumping. Meteoros- Shifted out abruptly near 250m to improve and hampered several runners.

3 On A Shining Star- A pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which had not raced for 597 days, found it suitable to race. Sky Mission- Rider T. Berry stated his mount was not suited with the blinkers on and raced very keenly in the early stages before compounding badly in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. To A Degree- Hampered near 250m. Perizada- Bounded on jumping. Bumped after start. Raced wide throughout. Hampered near 250m. Rider M. A. Cahill stated his mount was restless in the barriers and bounded on jumping, losing ground. He added his mount was obliged to race wide without cover throughout and as a result of enduring a tough run, it failed to respond to his riding over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination found the filly to have a minor laceration to the off hind pastern. Brandy Nan- Slow to begin. Shifted out after start. Hampered near 250m. Café Fouquet- Bumped near 150m. Lightning Alert- Hampered near 250m. It s Not My Fault- Bumped on jumping. Bumped near 150m. RACE 5: Fillies & Mares Benchmark 70 Handicap 1400m: Eklands- Shifted out on jumping. Price War- Checked approaching the winning post when disappointed for a run between Real Calm and Chinzia, which shifted in under pressure. Royal Amati- Over-raced in the early and middles stages. Tears In Heaven- Slow to begin. Vision And Verse- Clipped heels and blundered near 1300m when attempting to shift in behind Price War. Adequacy, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Rider B. Shinn was advised to exercise more care. Waitaha Prophecy- Had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early part of the straight. Adequacy- Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Hampered near 1300m. Blue Carlou- Raced wide throughout. RACE 6: MTC Guineas- 3yo Benchmark 70 Handicap 1600m: Redoutable Heart- Declared a late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 9.24pm. Trainer Mr C. Waller, represented by Mr A. Briffa, was fined $100 under LR36A for failing to withdraw the colt by the prescribed time. Grand Proposal- Awkwardly placed to the inside of Baylie Louise for some distance near the 1400m.

4 Cod Rock- Raced wide throughout. Bank On Henry- Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early part of the straight. Sir Ottavio- Slow to begin. Masking- Began awkwardly. Van Halen- Shifted out under pressure in the straight. Steadied near 1400m when Statton (G. Boss) shifted in when not quite clear. G. Boss was told to exercise more care. RACE 7: Wagga Gold Cup Open Handicap 2000m: Gypsy Diamond When questioned regarding his mount racing forward today, rider H. Bowman stated it was never his intention to lead and he had hoped to obtain a position mid field with cover. He added the mare which has had a tendency to be slowly away, today jumped cleanly, so he crossed from a wide barrier and attempted to steady the pace in the belief that runners would then improve around him. When this did not eventuate Gypsy Diamond commenced to over race and he therefore elected to allow his mount to stride forward rather than fight it. Kourkam Rider K. McEvoy stated although he was obliged to race wide throughout he was able to obtain cover but the gelding travelled only fairly throughout. He added when placed under pressure Kourkam failed to respond and in his opinion did not stretch out fully and may have jarred up. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Trainer Mr K. McEvoy reported subsequent to the event that Kourkam had pulled up well since the event and he agreed with the rider s comments, adding in his opinion the horse was better suited on a track with slightly move give in it. Faust Bumped on jumping. Trade Commissioner Trainer Mr C. Waller, represented by Mr A. Briffa, was fined $50 under AR140A, for presenting the gelding to race in ear muffs, which were not part of its approved gear. Bumped heavily by Ring Da Belle on several occasions near the 200m when both horses were attempting to improve into the same run. Had difficulty obtaining completely clear running over the final 200m. Landlocked Rider G. Boss was warned regarding him making contact with connections prior to weighing in. Court Connection Slow to begin. Ring Da Belle Bumped heavily on several occasions near 200m. Excited Prince Held up and unable to improve for the majority of the straight and as a result it went to the line without being tested. Steadied near 100m when crowded to the inside of Our Voodoo Prince, which shifted in and away from Ring Da Belle. It s A Virtue Raced wide throughout. Sand Dune Bumped on jumping. Steadied off heels while racing keenly near 1300m.

5 RACE 8: Benchmark 70 Handicap 1200m: Lampedusa Steadied and lost ground near the 200m when crowded to the inside of Not A Hint (N. Souquet), which shifted in. At a subsequent inquiry N. Souquet pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 200m he did permit Not A Hint to shift in when insufficiently clear of Lampedusa, which was steadied and lost the running to which it was entitled. N. Souquet s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 10 May 2015 and to expire on Sunday 17 May 2015, on which day he may ride. Escebee Declared a late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 12 noon, acting on a confirmed telephone call that the gelding had suffered a laceration to its head before being transported to the course. Lateandknewit Hung out badly throughout. Trainer Mr K. Hanley advised Stewards the gelding would now be retired. Not with standing this advice Mr Hanley was advised that should there be a change of plans, Lateandknewit would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. Hot A Hint Held up in the early part of the straight.
