1 February/March 2014 Volume 6 Issue 2 Officers & Board of Directors President Jim Ford (316) Vice President Terry Craft (620) Secretary Yvette Howey Treasurer Martha Wallisch (316) Board of Directors Gay Mahlandt (2014) (316) Harold Thieszen (2014) (316) Cindy Howey (2014) Jeannine McLain (2015) (316) Denise Meyer (2015) (316) Laura Meyer (2015) (316) From the Editor I keep telling myself one day closer to Spring. I keep telling Mom it could be worse, Dad could have been from Maine! I ve learned how to use the snow blower and ice melt. I am ready to put it all away until next winter! The 2014 Sunflower Horse Show is just around the corner. The Show Bill is available on the website or one can be mailed to you. Contact me or Denise Meyer, Show Manager, and we will get it mailed to you. The Silent Auction is being managed by Ann Ford (Jim s better half). If you have something you would like to donate for the Auction, contact Ann. A portion of the profits from the Show and Auction benefit the Wichita Children s Home. Even if you aren t showing, we would welcome you to come and visit. KAHS is sponsoring a new Horse Show this year the Heartland All-Breed Horse Show. This is an approved KSHA-show as well as Pinto, Morgan and Saddlebred. More info to come. This should be a fun and exciting show! For those of you who don t show, there is still a lot for you to do. We are trying to put on a trail ride, but need someone to organize it. AHA also has a Frequent Rider Program where you can earn great awards just for riding your horse(s). Look inside for more info. Sorry for the lateness of this Newsletter. Somewhere along the way I seem to have lost a week. Cindy Howey KAHS Newsletter Editor Board of Directors & General Election Meeting March 8, 2014 Genghis Grill 111 S Rock Rd., Wichita (corner of S Rock Rd. & E Douglas, next to Towne East) 12:00 Noon Lunch Meeting to follow RSVP to Laura Meyer by March 6,

The treasurer s report was distributed. Terry moved it be approved, Cindy seconded. The treasurer s report was approved. Re membership we have 43 or 44 senior members, 4 junior members. Cindy explained the difference between joining AHA direct or through a club. She will check at convention to see why the fees are now higher to join through a club versus AHA direct. It should be the opposite. Cindy will be working on a new directory and will send out forms again. On election, Cindy moved we accept the slate of officers as presented, Harold seconded. The slate was approved. The officers are: President Jim Ford Vice President Terry Craft Treasurer Martha Wallisch Secretary Yvette Howey The resolutions were discussed. There were not many comments. Re the Sunflower Show, we will not have the same classes on both days as in the past but any class can be added to either day as a TBA. The show has been approved. We are now asking for approval of region 8 and 11 instead of 5 and 8. Cindy moved we go with 8 and 11 if approved by AHA, Ann seconded. The motion was approved. Kansas Arabian Horse Society Balance Sheet December 31, 2013 Assets Bank and Cash Accounts Deerfield Bond $ 10, General Funds Checking $ 1, Money Market - KAHS $20, Total Bank and Cash Accounts $32, Total Assets $32, Restricted Funds and Equity Deerfield Youth Dev. The motion was approved. Re membership, Ann suggested we form a committee to come up with ideas to increase our membership, both adult and youth. Several suggestions were made on activities to promote the Arabian. Ann said we need to advertise our show and also advertise the fact that it benefits a charity. Also state the name of the charity and what they do. Cindy will make a flyer about our show for convention. Laura asked that we think about a show in conjunction with KSHA. The next meeting will be on January 18, 2014 at RYC s Arabians (the Howeys) at 11:00 AM. Newsletter Editor - Cindy Howey P.O. Box 98, Andale, KS KAHS Directory The Directory will only be reprinted in the future as needed. Corrections/Additions/Changes will be published in upcoming Newsletters. Please send your info to: Cindy Howey P.O. Box 98, Andale, KS AHA Frequent Rider Program (FRP) The Frequent Rider Program rewards riders for every hour that they spend riding or driving an Arabian or Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian horse in non-competitive activities. You can earn your hours on a trail ride, participating in parades, taking lessons, training under saddle and more. A one-time processing fee of $25 is due when you sign up for the program and is good for the lifetime of the individual rider. You may ride any number of horses, as long as they are Arabians, Half-Arabian/Anglo- Arabians registered with the Arabian Horse Association. Awards are based on the number of hours you ride or drive an eligible horse. Currently, awards include Lapel Pins, AHA T-shirts, AHA Hats, AHA Soft-sided Cooler and more. There is no time limit to reach these goals. For more information, contact AHA or go to Advantages of joining an AHA-Affiliated Club (like the Kansas Arabian Horse Society Club #8278) It has come to our attention that there are many people who are Direct-Members of AHA with no club affiliation. One of the main reasons to join an AHA-affiliated club is to SAVE MONEY. But there are other advantages, such as: Enjoy associating with other Arabian horse owners and Arabian horse enthusiast Pleasure ride with other Arabians Enjoy club social events, such as pot lucks, meetings, etc. Be eligible for club sponsored programs and awards Receive regular communications via club and Region 8 newsletters and s Have a voice be represented Vote in your club, or become an officer or serve on a committee Be counted towards the Delegate strength Serve as a voting Delegate to Region 8 meetings & the Annual AHA Convention Direct-AHA members are NOT represented at Regional meetings and Convention SAVE MONEY get a discount on a Competition Card (required for those competing in AHA-recognized shows and distance rides, Horse Achievement Awards, recording of Open competitions as well as getting $1 million personal excess liability insurance). If you know of someone who is a Direct-member of AHA, invite them to join our group and BE REPRESENTED. KAHS Membership forms are available at or contact Membership Chair, Cindy Howey, at or
