1 Picton Castle, Pembrokeshire June 2014 PANACHE PRESENTATION PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE
2 Welcome... On behalf of the members of the Dyfed Carriage Club, I would like to cordially invite you to the 2014 Welsh Attelage Tradition Meet ATM Carriages at the Castle and present to you our schedule of events. If you are not already aware, The Concours d Elegance d Attelage de Tradition is an exciting new type of competition popular across Europe with it s spiritual home in France at Chateau Cutts. This is a relatively new competition to the UK and now in it s third year here in Wales. It combines the quintessential style and finesse of traditional carriage driving with the skills and precision of competitive sport driving to create the ultimate premier carriage driving event. The event is run in accordance with the guidelines of the Association International d Attelage de Tradition, (AIAT), the governing body for Attelage competitions. who have generously recognised the high calibre of our event and awarded us Attelage Tradition Meet status (ATM). Although the event is run over two days, competitors are welcome to make a long weekend stay at the magnificent Picton Castle Estate near Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, (the 13th Century Ancestral home of the Philipps family). With the glorious surroundings and close proximity to Pembrokeshire National Park coastline, we have planned a great weekend driving and welcome competitors from all over the United Kingdom. We are planning an action packed weekend including a new Friday night welcome reception Barbecue, improved facilities including new grand arena, onsite stabling and an invitational Side Saddle Association show on the Saturday. The Carriages at the Castle competition consists of three stages open to a variety of carriage driving turnouts, including traditional private driving, coachman driven and exercise vehicles. The stages include: 1. Presentation... This is an individual standing show undertaken by each competitor in front of the two judges who will be positioned around the castle grounds. Each competitor will be checked for correctness and quality of their turnout. Points will be awarded for each aspect of their turnout including vehicle, harness, horse and passengers. Unlike conventional showing, this does not include a moving presentation showing paces etc. After the presentation, all competitors will be invited to inspect the Routier course. On Saturday Evening, all competitors and invited sponsors are welcome to celebrate the event and socialise with a gala black tie champagne reception in the grand banqueting hall followed by a formal dinner in the Castle restaurant. This will be a prepaid ticket event only in addition to the entry fees. 2. Routier... On day two, each competitor will be allotted time slot to undertake an individual park drive around the estate negotiating a series of Difficulties. The same turnout is used as the previous days presentation stage. Difficulties include a series of simple driver based skills which will be marked on ability and achievement. The Routier will be timed the distance will be around 8* miles on the quiet country lanes surrounding the estate (*to be confirmed). 3. Cones... After completing the Routier and a comfort break, each competitor will undertake a driven cones course in the main arena. This will be timed and penalty points awarded for balls down. This is not a race with complicated course, but a gently flowing route for a test of skills with elegance. The class will be expected to driven coachman style rein handling. We look forward to seeing you soon My kindest regards Lester Dagge Club Chairman
