Rail: True STEWARDS: J D Walshe (Chairman), C G Polglase & J Turner Supplementary Report Royal Randwick Saturday 3 March 2018 Race 1: TAB Highway Plate 1600m An inquiry was continued today into the reasons why It s A Lottery broke down near the 1200m in the abovementioned race with an injury to its near-hindleg which necessitated in it being euthanised. Further evidence was taken from trainer Mr Mr J Bateman, evidence from Mr Bateman s stable veterinarian Dr J Crowley via telephone and a necropsy report completed by Dr N Horadagoda (University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden) was entered along with Mr Bateman s stable treatment and veterinary records. The necropsy report revealed that the gelding had sustained a compound fracture of the near-hind cannon. Trainer Mr J Bateman advised that the gelding had pleased leading into the abovementioned race with no veterinary issues during the relevant period. As Stewards were satisfied that there was no evidence of any pre-existing condition that caused or contributed to the breakdown, Stewards concluded the matter pending the outcome of a post-mortem urine sample obtained from It s A Lottery. General App P Scorse represented by Mr J Whitney (Racing NSW Industry Training Officer and apprentices mentor), pleaded guilty to a charge under AR160B(3) of having in his possession in the area of the jockey s room, his mobile phone. App P Scorse was fined the sum of $200. In assessing penalty Stewards confirmed that his phone had not been used during the racemeeting. Riding Change As app Ms C Ings was ill, Stewards permitted the following riding changes: Race 4 Solo Gypsy App Ms C Frater-Hill RACE 1: Argyle Fire Services F & M Maiden Handicap 1400m Jewel Of Honour Slow to begin. Over-raced for some distance passing the 900m. Rider Ms C Nutman dropped her right rein passing the 200m.

2 Cappamore Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, rider J Collett stated that his mount enjoyed a favourable run throughout however was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the straight and whilst the run passing the 150m between Ons Vier and Baby Jive had closed, his mount was not travelling well enough to take advantage of that run. A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr J Coyle stated that in his view the filly may not have appreciated today s firm track, however advised that the filly would now be sent for a spell. Baby Jive Passing the 1100m was taken three wide by Ons Vier and when Cappamore improved to her inside very soon after the mare was obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event. Passing the 300m laid in and made contact with Cappamore which simultaneously shifted out. Rider app Ms W Peel reported that upon pulling up her mount felt lame. Due to the delayed advice from Ms Peel and as the mare had left the course, trainer Mr T Martin was asked to report on the mare s condition when it arrived back at the stables and was told that irrespective, he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race again. RACE 2: Waratah Thoroughbreds Class 2 Handicap 1400m Matrimony Late withdrawal on vet s advice at 8:15am. Te Ata Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Chastity Strikes Slow to begin. Near the 100m was taken in by Discreet Charm which laid in. Mirrabooka Pulled in the middle stages and was trapped three wide for the remainder of the event. After the 300m when weakening was briefly tightened between Chastity Strikes which laid out despite the efforts of its rider and Discreet Charm which was laying in. Discreet Charm Laid in in the straight. RACE 3: Best Western Goulburn Class 3 Handicap 1200m Makahu Boy When the gelding arrived on course without its near-hind shoe and due to difficulties with a replacement plate and the gelding s behaviour, permission was granted for the off-hind plate to be removed. Public announcements were made. Trainer Mr S Cunningham (AR140A(1)) and rider C Reith (LR57) were each fined the sum of $50 for contributing to the gelding being presented to race with an incorrect saddlecloth number. Began awkwardly. All In Rhythm Rider P Wells explained that after his mount was a little slow to begin, he was obliged to make significant use of his mount to go forward and sit outside the leader, which along with its impost of 59kg contributed to the gelding weakening inside the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Lion Of Africa Had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m.

3 RACE 4: Hibernian Hotel Class 2 Handicap 1050m Stone Cold Trainer Ms S Murray-Leslie was fined the sum of $50 under LR35 for the late declaration of N Callow as the rider of the gelding. Solo Gypsy Slow to begin. O So Tempting Raced wide throughout. RACE 5: Goulburn Post 3YO Maiden Plate 1200m Red Hot Ziggy Slow to begin (2L). Trainer Mr J Scobie was advised that a warning would be recorded against the gelding which was uncompetitive. Mr Scobie advised that the gelding would be spelled in the interim. Lady Of Kos Slow to begin. Chuxtorial Slow to begin. Swiss After the 300m became held up and had to be shifted to the inside of Porky Pies to obtain clear running. Passing the 150 had to be shifted to the outside of Missed Out to continue into clear running. Porky Pies Passing the 150m was taken out by Swiss which was shifting out in search of clear running. RACE 6: Radio Goulburn C, G & E Maiden Handicap 1400m Eaglehawk Trainer Mr J Pride represented by Ms H Devlin was fined the sum of $50 under LR35 for the late declaration of J Collett as the rider of the gelding. Slow to begin. Sacrifice Trainer Ms W Roche was fined the sum of $50 under AR140B for the late addition of blinkers to the gelding s approved racing gear. Agua Caliente Co-trainers Mr A & E Cummings represented by Mr S Dalton were fined the sum of $50 under AR53C for failing to notify that Agua Caliente had been gelded. Slow to begin. Hotel Amour Slow to begin and crowded shortly after by Starlander which shifted in. Read All About It Raced wide throughout. Thomas Crowns Raced wide throughout. Fallada Prior to the declaration of correct weight and after viewing a replay of the race, Mr C Polglase, Deputy Chief Steward SERA, lodged an objection on behalf of the connections of runner-up Fallada and in the public interest, against Read All About It being declared the winner on the grounds Read All About It had caused interference to Fallada passing the 100m. Mr Polglase took no further part in the hearing and the remaining panel members

4 considered the merit of the objection. On the evidence it was established that passing the 100m Read All About It shifted out and made contact with Fallada which was inconvenienced and taken out. Bearing in mind that in the lead up to the incident Fallada was also making ground on Read All About It and that as a consequence of the interference, Fallada lost momentum but then recommenced to make ground on Read All About It in the run to the line, and also taking into account the margin of only a nose between the respective runners, Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred that Fallada would have finished ahead of Read All About It and as such upheld the objection. Stewards amended the placings to read 1 st : Fallada; 2 nd Read All About It; 3 rd Texacody and 4 th Talladega Knight and declared correct weight. At a subsequent inquiry Fallada s rider S Guymer was spoken to, and told that he must be more aware of interference during a race that presented the opportunity of at least viewing a replay of the race to determine whether there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of connections. RACE 7: Jan Fenton Celebrant Benchmark 55 Handicap 1400m Skyway Was a late withdrawal at 12:40pm when its trainer Mr G Hall notified that the gelding was lame in its near-fore leg due to a plating issue. Gunbarrel Highway As trainer Mr B Kelly advised that the gelding s bridle with its tonguecontrol had not been packed, and when no other tongue-control bit could be located, the gelding was permitted to race with a lugging bit. Public announcements were made. Trainer Mr B Kelly was fined the sum of $50 (AR140B). Slow to begin. Trainer Mr B Kelly was advised that as the gelding had been found to have suffered a bleeding attack on the first occasion following the race, the gelding would incur the mandatory three month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A(4). Jingles Dislodged its rider N Callow (no injury) nearing the start when it whipped around and then cantered some distance before it was re-captured and examined by the Club s veterinary officer and passed suitable to race. Began awkwardly and was then crowded soon after by Vencedora (Ms C Nutman) which shifted in when not clear. Ms C Nutman was advised to exercise more care. Rider N Callow stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position, however after receiving some interference at the start his mount did not muster sufficient speed for him to comply with his instructions and consequently got further back than anticipated. He further added that in his opinion, his mount had ran home well in the straight. Tearaway Charlie Crowded soon after the start by Miss Farloo which laid in. Greenback Boogie Near the 1300m was crowded by Polar Blast which hung in away from Vencedora which was shifting in. Red Hot Tango Slow to begin. After the 1300m was eased when crowded by Scent Of A Woman which was taken in by Greenback Boogie. Northern River Was held up until near the 250m.

5 Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. Race 4 App Ms J Philpot (Eve s Miss) 7 strikes prior to the 100m Race 4 R Bensley (O So Tempting) 6 strikes prior to the 100m Race 6 S Guymer (Fallada) 7 strikes prior to the 100m * Swab samples were obtained from all winners except in Race 6 in which Read All About It was swabbed instead of winner on protest, Fallada.
