Special attention should be given to show ring attire (Please reference the Livestock Handbook). These rules can be found in the exhibitor s handbook and on Goat exhibitors must be at least five (5) years of age as of January 1st of the current Fair year (2016). Market and Pygmy Goats may arrive on Thursday, July 21st starting at 8:00 AM and MUST be in place by 8:00 AM, Saturday, July 23rd. Market and Pygmy Goats may begin to leave Tuesday, July 26th no earlier than 9:00 PM and must be out no later than 10:00 PM on Tuesday, July 26 th or premiums will be forfeited. Meat Breed and Dairy Goats may arrive on Wednesday, July 27th starting no earlier than 6:00 AM and must be in place by 11:00 AM. Animals must not leave the grounds before 1:00 AM, Sunday July 31st or premiums will be forfeited. shall not decorate or move in barns unless pen space has been assigned by the Superintendent. Livestock trailers will be parked in a designated area in the south parking lot. Cars and trucks shall not be parked around barns. Any and all electrical extension cords used in any building on the fairgrounds MUST BE 12.3 gauge or heavier. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS! Any and all Premiums may be adjusted by The Delaware State Fair Board of Directors based on funding sources. Mandatory Barn Meeting Saturday July 23rd at 8:00 AM - Kent Building. Weigh-ins to follow at New Castle Building. ENTRY INFORMATION: Entries are restricted to Delaware breeders only. Active Delaware 4-H members are permitted to exhibit in open and junior livestock shows regardless of residency. A $5.00 entry fee per class (excluding groups/pairs and showmanship/fitting classes) is required for all show entries. Only one entry per class in the Junior Show. The exhibitor(s) will also be eligible to enter in the Open. 1
2 *New for New Entry Software System* When entering your animal online please refer to the example below for an open or breed class: Example: Fair: 2016 Delaware State Fair Department: Goat Open Division: Breed es : 072: Junior Does under 3 months DEPARTMENT INFORMATION: Registration papers for Pygmy goats will be checked in the Goat barn office from 11:00am- 1:00pm on Saturday July 23 rd. Goats whose registration papers have not been checked will not be allowed to show. Registration papers for Meat Breed and Dairy Goats will be checked in the Goat Barn office from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 27th. Goats whose registration papers have not been checked will not be allowed to show. Bring your own hay, grain, pails, etc. Your first bedding will be provided by the Fair. All bedding should be cleaned/changed daily. All dairy and market goats must be body clipped before entering the fairgrounds. This does not apply to pygmy goats or meat breed does. Any sick or underweight animal will not be permitted to unload. All does, regardless of age, shall have official scrapie identifications. This identification may be by ear tag, tattoo, or microchip. Any animals not having proper scrapie identification will NOT be allowed to show. If additional information is needed, contact Bob Moore, Delaware Department of Agriculture at This rule applies to all sheep and all goats including Pygmy Goats. Junior exhibitors must show their own animals in the Junior Show unless there is an emergency. No exceptions! No assistance in the show ring at any time in all junior livestock classes, except that assistance may be given by a designated ring steward/master. Junior are strongly encouraged to use Market Goats only for the Jr. Showmanship and Fitting (combined) Show. However; if and only if an exhibitor does not have a market goat, they will be permitted to use their own meat breed goat if that breed goat is entered in the Open Meat Goat Breed Show. This meat breed goat will be permitted to and must enter the fairgrounds by 8:00 AM on Saturday, July 23rd with the market animals. A pen assignment will be given to this goat/exhibitor in the New Castle Barn area so as not to interfere with the cleaning of the Simpson Barn mid-week. BACK TAGS: Exhibitor back tag numbers will be supplied by the Delaware State Fair. The number will be worn whenever the animal is in the show ring. The exhibitor s back tag pertains to the animal entry number, not the exhibitor number. SPECIAL AWARDS Educational Displays should promote the Goat Industry (dairy, meat, packing or harness). Display size may be no larger than 28 x 44 poster or foam board only. No other format will be accepted. Entry tags must be fastened to the upper right corner of the display. Exhibitor s name, address, and phone number should be on the back of the entry and not visible to judges. Please see Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Show Secretary for an additional tag to be placed on the front of the display before placing on the wall. JoAnne is missed, but her legacy lives on through those whose lives she enriched. DAIRY GOAT DIVISION BASE DATE FOR AGES OF ANIMALS SHALL BE COMPUTED AS OF SHOW DAY. There will be no pre-show milk out. Junior exhibitors must show their own animals unless there is an emergency. No exhibitor may collect more than 2 premiums in one class in the Open Division. In making your entries, remember that all Does under 24 months of age that have never freshened shall compete in the Junior Doe Division and any Doe which has freshened shall compete in the Senior Division. This includes dry milkers. The Open Show only is sanctioned by the American Dairy Goat Association and their rules shall govern. The show order is subject to change or it is not subject to change. The Junior and Senior Open Shows are not separately sanctioned. The original registration certificate is required for all Dairy animals six months of age or older and this MUST be shown to the Superintendent or Show Secretary before the start of the Show. The original registration certificate or duplicate application stamped by the ADGA office is required for all Dairy animals under six months of age and this MUST be shown to the Superintendent or Show Secretary at the previously noted times on Wednesday, July 27th. No copies of the registration certificate or the stamped application, telegrams or phone calls will be accepted in lieu of the original certificate. In the Dairy Goat Show, no horned animals shall be allowed to show. The Dairy Goat Youth Show is for pure breed dairy goats ONLY; Meat crosses will not be permitted. 3

MEAT GOAT DIVISION JUNIOR MARKET GOAT SHOW 1. Any breed or crosses will be eligible to compete in the Market es. Fainting goats are not eligible. Registration papers are not required on goats entered in the Market es. 2. Anyone entering a Lamancha crossbreed, which may have difficulty wearing an ear tag, must contact the Fair Office ( ) and other arrangements will be made. 3. Wethers and does can be shown in the Market Show. Doe kids shown in the Market es are not eligible to compete in the meat breed show. 4. Intact Males: Any interest in showing intact males will be considered by the Goat Show Committee for future shows. 5. Market goats must weigh a minimum of 45 pounds and a maximum of 120 pounds. Animals will be divided by weight based on the number of animals. 6. Weigh-In: Will begin in the Simpson Building following the General Barn Meeting in the Kent Building. Goats will be weighed and toothed prior to showing. Goats will be placed in classes according to weight. 6
7 7. Market goats must be shown in uniformly short hair and must be body clipped before entering the fairgrounds. 8. Age: Goats must have their milk teeth and show no breaking or eruption of either of the two permanent front teeth and must be less than one (1) year old. 9. Horns: If horned, horns must be tipped blunt. 10. Market Goat are limited to a maximum of two (2) animals and those animals cannot be in the same class. 11. Either Market or Meat Animals may be used for showmanship contest, but the animal must be entered in a show class. 12. Showmanship classes may be adjusted due to class size. There will be a minimum class size of 3 exhibitors. 13. Animal move-out will be Tuesday, July 26 th. Please lineup outside gate 2A ( Gate) with your trailer beginning at 8pm. Fair officials will direct exhibitors on the grounds in an orderly fashion. All animals leaving the grounds must be moved by 10pm.
