Miss Fabulass overraced in the early stages. Race 3 #Theraces Handicap 1800m Machismo began awkwardly and made contact with the barriers. Race 5 Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap 1400m High Tranquility made contact with Back To My Bay which shifted out on jumping. Summary of whip use The Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii): Race 4 C Reith (Fame Shines) 6 strikes Race 5 App R King (Back to My Bay) 6 strikes Race 5 A Adkins (Star of the Ring) 8 strikes NEWCASTLE: Thursday, 1 March 2018 RACE 3 TAB Highway Handicap 1100m Euro Gold began awkwardly. RACE 8 Prestige Wedding & Event Hire Maiden Handicap 1500m American Honor trainer Mr J O'Shea advised that American Honor was displaying soreness across its back following the race and he confirmed that he would barrier trial the horse prior to its next start. RACE 1 Tab.com.au Handicap 1550m Sausalito knuckled over at the start resulting in App J Van Overmeire almost becoming dislodged. Pandemonium made contact with Smiling Manolito at the start. Smiling Manolito made contact with Pandemonium at the start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Smiling Manolito, K McEvoy explained that his mount, in the early stages, was able to take up a more forward position than he had expected given the moderate tempo and the manner in which his mount was travelling in the early stages. He said that Smiling Manolito

2 travelled satisfactorily until the 600m where the horse came under pressure and despite his efforts to maintain his position relative to Pandemonium, Smiling Manolito was a beaten horse prior to the home turn. He said that whilst Smiling Manolito performed somewhat below expectations, he considered that the gelding may be better suited when able to be ridden more conservatively. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The post race condition and plans of Smiling Manolito will be followed up with the Waller stable. So You Win slow to begin. For a short distance approaching the course proper near the 1400m, So You Win and Langley (T Angland) made contact as the rider of Langley shifted So You Win into a position close to the running rail. T Angland was advised that whilst the Stewards appreciate competitive riding, nonetheless he must execute these manoeuvres with the requisite amount of care. So You Win, after the 600m, shifted out to improve and as a result travelled wide and without cover. RACE 2 ATC Owner Benefit Card Plate 1200m Last Order after being placed in the barriers, reared and became cast. Think Straight, which was in the adjoining stall, was kicked by Last Order. Both Last Order and Think Straight were withdrawn at 6.47pm on veterinary advice. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Last Order and Think Straight be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 6.47pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket: 1 st Leningrad 10 cents win, 7 cents place 2 nd My Zebrinka 14 cents place 3 rd Prahaar 17 cents place Trainer Mr J Thompson was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Last Order barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards on two consecutive occasions prior to racing again: Palmateer K McEvoy explained that after beginning awkwardly and losing ground at the start, he had to make some use of his mount to take up a midfield position. He said that after the 600m, he lost ground when following Ritzy Roxie, which came under pressure and commenced to lose ground. He said that the filly then was under hard riding to commence to improve near the 500m and he was obliged to shift to the outside of the field early in the straight to obtain clear running. He said that Palmateer, which was resuming from a spell today, then closed the race off satisfactorily. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Prahaar was slow to begin (2L). For some distance after the 700m, Prahaar raced keenly. Near the 600m, Prahaar, which was continuing to race keenly, shifted out away from the heels of Stryke Rock and then raced wide and without cover. When questioned, J Collett explained that whilst he was under no specific instructions not to use the whip on Prahaar, he was, however, very mindful of the circumstances in which he was dislodged from the horse when it shifted out abruptly near the 100m at its first start at Randwick. He said that Prahaar was closing the race off strongly under hands and heels pressure and because of this, he rode Prahaar to the best of his ability in this manner. Mr Pfieffer expressed satisfaction with the riding of J Collett and he was advised by the Stewards that at its future starts, should it be his intention to have the whip used on the horse, he must notify the Stewards accordingly. Ritzy Roxie was steadied and shifted in across behind runners shortly after the start. Stryke Rock after beginning well, was steadied and shifted in across behind runners. Sansa H Bowman (Stryke Rock) was reprimanded for permitting his horse to shift in near the 150m when not properly clear of Sansa, which had to be eased. G Schofield, rider of sixth placegetter Sansa (beaten by a nose for fifth), was fined $200 under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. RACE 3 TAB Handicap 1550m Budderoo Knight began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

3 Mulu Magic slow to begin. Mulu Magic was steadied and shifted in across behind runners from its wide barrier. Near the 900m, Mulu Magic became awkwardly placed close to the heels of Planet's Princess and was steadied. All But Gone slow to begin. Approaching the 50m, All But Gone, which was closing the race off strongly, shifted in and bumped Mulu Magic and became unbalanced. Weekend Affair was held up approaching and rounding the home turn and the early part of the straight. Approaching the winning post, Weekend Affair shifted out abruptly when under pressure resulting in Budderoo Knight having to be steadied. When Weekend Affair commenced to shift, T Angland was obliged to stop riding and correct his mount and whilst these actions may have compromised his finishing position, nonetheless the Stewards considered the measures T Angland took were appropriate in the circumstances. Tinker Dan approaching the 50m, App J Van Overmeire momentarily dropped his left rein rain which impeded his ability to ride his horse out at this time. Thereafter, Tinker Dan laid in and proved difficult to ride out. Planet s Princess when questioned, B Avdulla explained in the early stages he effectively obtained a one out one back position. He said, however, when the tempo increased after the 1400m, he was left racing in a two wide position without cover, which was less than desirable being up in grade, but nonetheless he was of the view that Planet's Princess, having regard to the manner in which it weakened in the straight, performed disappointingly. A post race veterinary examination revealed Planet's Princess to be bilaterally lame in front. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Planet's Princess being permitted to race again. RACE 4 #Theraces Handicap 1250m Lady Chalfont began awkwardly. Lady Chalfont had some difficulty obtaining clear running until the 200m. Mariquita slow to begin. Hammoon Dream a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 5 TAB Rewards Handicap 1900m Letter To Juliette prior to the declaration of correct weight, after the Stewards identified from the inquiry room that jockey T Angland, rider of second placegetter Letter To Juliette, had struck his horse on approximately 10 occasions prior to the 100m (five more than permitted), inclusive of two successive strikes, they then viewed the patrol films to ascertain whether Letter To Juliette had gained an advantage. When the Stewards were not satisfied that Letter To Juliette had not gained an advantage in accordance with AR168(2), having regard to the margin (a length and a quarter between second and third), they therefore declined to exercise their powers under AR137A(9) and did not proceed with lodging a formal objection. Subsequently T Angland pleaded guilty to charges under AR137A(5)(a)(i) and (ii) was fined $500. A reprimand was recorded for the breach regarding consecutive strikes. Leaving the straight on the first occasion, Letter To Juliette was eased to avoid the heels of Domed (B Shinn) which shifted in when not properly clear. Letter To Juliette, was then awkwardly placed inside the heels of Domed for some distance thereafter, and had to be eased when the tempo steadied soon after and then raced keenly until after the 1200m. B Shinn was advised to exercise care when shifting ground and to be mindful of reducing the tempo after barely crossing runners. Newtown Bluebag was slow to begin and then shifted in across behind runners from its wide barrier. Multifacets was slow to begin and then shifted in across behind runners from its wide barrier.

4 Domed near the 500m, Domed was eased to avoid the heels of Letter To Juliette (T Angland), which after shifting out to commence its run, then rolled in. Newtown Bluebag, which was trailing Domed, was steadied in consequence. T Angland was advised to exercise more care. Honeywine near the 600m, was disappointed for running between Newtown Bluebag and Zardabba. A post race veterinary examination revealed Honeywine was slow to recover. Resort a post race veterinary examination revealed Resort to have lost its off hind plate. RACE 6 Australian Turf Club Handicap 1250m Bright Future prior to the declaration of correct weight, T Clark, rider of Bright Future, viewed the official patrol films to establish if there were sufficient grounds to lodge an objection for interference in the straight. When he was satisfied that there were insufficient grounds to lodge an objection, and the Stewards were of a similar view, correct weight was declared. It was established that near the 100m, Catesby shifted out and bumped Bright Future. Malaigo turned its head to the nearside as the start was effected and was subsequently slow to begin. Malaigo raced wide and without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Arigold slow to begin. Barricade slow to begin and then shifted in across behind runners from its wide barrier. RACE 7 Schweppes Evening Star 1550m Francesco at the request of the rider, Francesco underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barrier and was cleared to start. Francesco began only fairly. A post race veterinary examination revealed Francesco to be lame (1/5) in the near fore leg. Trainer Mr M Newnham was advised a veterinary certificate will be required prior to Francesco being permitted to race again. Sir Barb declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable the connections of the third placegetter Sir Barb to view the photo finish. When they were satisfied the numbers as semaphored by the judge were correct, and the Stewards similarly agreed, correct weight was declared. Sir Barb was slow to begin and then shifted in across behind from its wide barrier. Quick Defence was slow to begin and then shifted in across behind runners from its wide barrier. Quick Defence experienced difficulty obtaining clear running until approximately the 200m. Reiby The Red raced wide in the early stages. Pelethronius raced wide and without cover throughout. Waltzing Willie throughout the early and middle stages, pulled hard and when Miami Dade shifted out briefly passing the 900m, Waltzing Willie, when continuing to prove difficult to settle, improved to the inside of Miami Dade and then raced in restricted room for approximately 100m. When Miami Dade resumed its position near the 700m, Waltzing Willie had to be checked. Sir Barb, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was steadied near the 150m when disappointed for running between Nat King Cu and Reiby The Red, which shifted in slightly. Abohar laid in over the final 100m when under pressure. RACE 8 Book Autumn Hospitality Today Handicap 1100m Phoebe's Lass raced wide and without cover throughout. Star Shaft slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed Star Shaft was slow to recover.

5 Bold Chance Walk Right In shifted out and made contact with All From Scrap at the start. All From Scrap then shifted out and made contact with Bold Chance, which was then buffeted between that horse and Vincero, which shifted in after making contact with Just Got Lucky. In this incident, Just Got Lucky was bumped on the hindquarter and became unbalanced. Bold Chance raced keenly for some distance approaching and passing the 600m and had to be restrained off the heels of Eccellere during this time. All From Scrap approaching the 150m, was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for a run inside of Bold Chance. All From Scrap then, when placed under pressure near the 100m, shifted out obliging its rider to straightening his mount. Walk Right In near the 100m, was shifted to the outside of Just Got Lucky to continue into clear running. Vincero when questioning regarding the disappointing performance of Vincero, B Avdulla said that his mount, after travelling in a position behind midfield, as expected, was under pressure after the 600m and was a beaten horse prior to the home straight. He said that he was not entirely satisfied with the horse's action throughout the race and having regard to the circumstances, he elected to ease the gelding down in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed Vincero was slow to recover. Trainer Mr G Portelli was advised that a veterinary clearance was required prior to Vincero being permitted to race again. Mr Portelli advised that he would barrier trial Vincero prior to its next race start. GENERAL: Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: So You Win (2), Langley. Race 2: My Zebrinka (2), Stryke Rock, Prahaar. Race 3: Weekend Affair. Race 4: Stradance, Klisstra, It s Time For Magic. Race 5: Honeywine, Newtown Bluebag, Resort, Letter To Juliette (2), Zardabba. Race 6: Lay Down The Law, Arigold, Bright Future. Race 7: Pelethronius, Nat King Cu, Sir Barb, Miami Dade (2). Race 8: Star Shaft, All From Scrap. SUMMARY Fines: Race 2: G Schofield (Sansa) $200 fail to ride mount out [AR137(b)]. Race 5: T Angland (Letter To Juliette) - $500 whip use [AR137A(5)(a)(ii)].
