3 Welcome to the 2017 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival - a year that promises to deliver a history making chapter with the running of the 97th W.S. Cox Plate. We are extremely pleased this year to welcome our new major sponsor and long-term partner in Ladbrokes and look forward to many years of working together on this LEGENDARY two-day Carnival. Not since 1982 has the anticipation been greater heading into Australasia s Weight-For-Age Championship and the buzz is growing each day as we count down to the best two minutes in sport. There is nothing more exhilarating than when the gates crash back at the famous 2040 metre starting point and this year all eyes will be on the mare in blue silks with the white M, Winx. The back-to-back champion has broken all the records before her and currently holds the biggest winning margin (8 lengths) and fastest time (2:02:98) in our LEGENDARY race. This year adds another dimension as Winx aims to equal the record of three consecutive wins set by the immortal Kingston Town in 1980, 1981 and As this year s world-class field rushes past the crowd, all in attendance will wait in anticipation for a 35-year drought to be broken, hoping for their very own I was there moment to unfold. It was with a great sense of pride that the 2016 W.S. Cox Plate was recognised as the equal-highest rated turf horse race in the world at the 2016 Longines World s Best Horse Race Awards. Last year s edition of the race was also rated the second-equal highest thoroughbred race in the world, which is the highest rating of any horse race ever recorded in Australia. Could the 2017 Ladbrokes Cox Plate reach that coveted number one spot? Our premier race caps off an unforgettable 24 hours of sport, beginning on Friday night when The Valley showcases itself under lights for the richest night race in Australia. The $1M Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes has an honour roll that is unsurpassed with equine greats such as Vain, Rubiton, Miss Andretti, Hay List, Sepoy and in more recent years Buffering, Lankan Rupee and Chautauqua all etching their names into its 49 years of history. We can t wait to see who is next to announce themselves on the big stage in the 50th running of this time-honoured 1200 metre dash. This year we celebrate the 50th running of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes, Australia s richest thoroughbred race under lights and its honour roll of winners includes names such as Chautauqua, Lankan Rupee, Buffering and Miss Andretti among many more. The Valley comes alive for an evening which has become synonymous with world class live entertainment, both on and off the track, at a Spring Racing Carnival event like no other!
