Also has homes in France and the United States Prince Khalid Abdullah is the brother-in-law of King Salman of Saudi Arabia. He is also the nephew of King Salman s father, the late King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, who was the founder and first monarch of the kingdom. Prince Abdullah is also among the leading global Thoroughbred breeders. Juddmonte has bred more Breeders Cup starters (65) than any breeder in history and is ranked second by earnings with 7,937,820. As an owner, it is ranked second in earnings with four victories, nine seconds, and seven thirds from 72 starters and $9,375,820 in earnings going into the 2016 edition. All of its Breeders Cup winners have been homebred females: Banks Hill (GB) (2001 Filly & Mare Turf); Intercontinental (GB) (2005 Filly & Mare Turf); Ventura (2008 Filly & Mare Sprint); Midday (GB) (2009 Filly & Mare Turf). Heads into the 2016 Breeders Cup with very strong contenders Arrogate, who is trained by Bob Baffert in the Classic, and Flintshire, trained by Chad Brown, in the Turf. The brilliant Flintshire, considered the top male turf horse in North America and perhaps the world, earned his starting gate spot in the Sword Dancer Invitational-G1 at Saratoga, a Win and You re In race. Arrogate and Flintshire gave Juddmonte a banner day on August 27 th at Saratoga. Following Flintshire s impressive back-to-back ( ) win in the Sword Dancer, the handsome and very fast gray or roan Arrogate set a new stakes record in the

2 147 th running of the Travers Stakes-G1. Flintshire was the runner-up in the 2014 Breeders Cup Turf, and went on from there to add a victory in the Hong Kong Vase (G1) six weeks later. He returned in 2015 as a 5-year-old and under the guidance of Andre Fabre finished second in the Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) and also had a second consecutive runnerup finish in the Prix de l Arc de Triomphe, with the victory in the Sword Dancer (G1) at Saratoga in between. He was then transferred to America for the 2016 season and to the capable hands of Chad Brown. In 2016, Flintshire won three straight graded stakes in New York- the Manhattan-G1, the Bowling Green Handicap-G2, and the Sword Dancer-G1, before being upset on soft turf and coming in second in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic-G1 Oct. 8. Afterward Brown said that although he knew going in that Flintshire relished far firmer going, there was no other Breeders Cup prep race for him. Homebred Close Hatches, trained by Bill Mott, won the 2014 Eclipse Award as Older Dirt Female. Multiple Grade 1 winner Close Hatches could only manage 11 th in the 2014 Distaff and Emollient was ninth in the Filly & Mare Turf, while Commemorative (GB) finished seventh in the Juvenile Turf. In 2013, in the United States Juddmonte was represented by Close Hatches and Emollient, as well as multiple graded stakes winner Starformer. Close Hatches took the Mother Goose and Cotillion Stakes, both Grade 1, and the Gazelle Stakes (G2), while Emollient won the Ashland Stakes, American Oaks and Juddmonte Spinster Stakes, all Grade 1 events. In Europe, the organization was represented by Group 1 winners Romantica, Flintshire and Winsili. Romantica, a daughter of Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Banks Hill (GB), finished second in the 2013 Filly & Mare Turf, with Emollient fourth. Juddmonte bred, campaigned and owns the peerless Frankel, Europe s undefeated champion two-year-old of 2010 and Horse of the year in 2011 and Juddmonte is also noted for campaigning the Kentucky-bred Dancing Brave, the Outstanding European Horse of Dancing Brave won eight of 10 starts, losing only the Epsom Derby and the Breeders Cup Turf, where he finished fourth as the prohibitive favorite in Only one other horse besides Frankel has won the prestigious Cartier Horse of the Year award twice: Ouija Board won in 2004 and Frankel was the highest rated horse in the world in 2011 and 12. He retired a perfect 14-for-14 in the fall of 2012 after winning the Champion Stakes at Ascot. He began his stud career in 2013 at Juddmonte s Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket, England with a stud fee of

3 approximately $198,000. Among the mares in his first book were Oatsee, Kentucky's reigning Broodmare of the Year and dam of Preakness winner Shackleford; Prix de l'arc de Triomphe winner Danedream; Eclipse Award winners Stacelita and Zagora; Japanese champion Vodka; multiple Grade 1 or Group 1 winners Midday and Dar Re Mi; and Grade 1 winner Balance, a half-sister to Zenyatta. His first yearlings were very well-received at the 2015 and at the 2016 sales, and he is establishing himself as a top sire. Frankel was trained by Sir Henry Cecil, one of the most prominent international horse trainers over the last four decades. Cecil, who revealed that he was suffering from stomach cancer in 2006, died June 11, 2013, at age 70. Nine days after his death, Cecil's wife Lady Jane Cecil saddled Juddmonte's Riposte in the Ribblesdale Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot. It was one of the more poignant victories ever recorded at the event. Frankel was named in honor of the late Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, who trained many of Juddmonte s top runners in the United States, including 2003 Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker (sire of Emollient) and Breeders Cup winners Banks Hill (GB) (2001 Filly & Mare Turf), Intercontinental (GB) (2005 Filly & Mare Turf), and Ventura (2008 Filly & Mare Sprint). Bobby Frankel passed away in Nov at the age of 68 following a long battle with cancer. In 2013, it was announced Juddmonte would be doing a partial dispersal of its stock. Frankel was never to be included in said dispersal, but rumors were so rampant, the organization issued the following statement: His Highness is going to make some disposals over the next few months, but his interest remains undiminished and he will continue to race. It is very early days and a process that will take many months. The name Frankel has not been mentioned here, said Douglas Erskine-Crum, the chief executive of Juddmonte. In Sept. 2012, Juddmonte announced it was re-opening its California division and would employ Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. Mott, trains many of Juddmonte s horses based on America s East Coast and Midwest and now Brown has been added to the roster. Juddmonte won its 11th Eclipse Award in 2009 when it was voted Outstanding Breeder. Juddmonte bred 29 individual Group/Stakes winners of 48 races in 2009, including Group/Grade 1 winners Champs Elysees, Midday, Midships, Spanish Moon, Special Duty, Twice Over and Ventura. Champs Elysees, one of five Grade/Group 1 winners out of Juddmonte s blue-hen mare Hasili, became the first U.S.-based runner to be named Canada s Horse of the Year since 1995 when he earned the 2009 Sovereign Award. Juddmonte was named Kentucky Breeder of the Year for 2008.

4 Other well-known horses include 2003 Kentucky Oaks winner Flute, 2010 Prix de l Arc de Triomphe winner Workforce, 2006 Arc-winner Rail Link; 1985 Arc-winner Rainbow Quest; champion Known Fact; 1990 Epsom Derby winner Quest for Fame, who won the 1992 Hollywood Turf Handicap; homebreds Zafonic and Commander in Chief, who won the Two Thousand Guineas and Epsom Derby, respectively, in 1993; and homebred multiple Group 1 winner Oasis Dream. Juddmonte won all five classics in both England and France within a 10-year period. In 1983, Prince Abdullah was awarded honorary membership in Britain s Jockey Club. He also has been honored as a leading owner and breeder in Britain. Known Fact s win in the 1980 Two Thousand Guineas marked Abdullah s first classic victory and the first for an Arab From an initial crop of four yearlings (all future winners), Abdullah developed one of the world s most successful Thoroughbred empires, Juddmonte Farms. Prince Abdullah attended the races at Longchamp with friends and vowed one day to own a racehorse. He bought his first racehorses in His first winner was Charming Native, trained by Jeremy Tree, at Windsor on May 14, His first graded/group stakes race victory came a month later at Royal Ascot, with Abeer in the Queen Mary Stakes. Prince Abdullah has owned three horses named Broodmare of the Year in the U.S. or Britain: Hasili, dam of stakes winners Dansili, Banks Hill, Intercontinental, Cacique and Champs Elysees; Toussaud, dam of stakes winners Empire Maker, Chester House, Honest Lady, Chiselling and Decarchy; and Slightly Dangerous, dam of stakes winners Commander in Chief, Warning, Yashmak, Dushyantor and Jibe. Toussaud passed away on Jan. 5, 2009 at the age of 20 due to declining health. Juddmonte has bred more than 109 individual Grade/Group 1 winners. Prince Abdullah owns approximately 900 horses, on farms in Great Britain, Ireland, and Kentucky. Juddmonte annually foals approximately 120 foals in Europe and about 65 in America. Dr. John Chandler manages Abdullah s North American racing operation. The nearly 2,500-acre Juddmonte Farms near Lexington was founded in 1982, with Known Fact becoming its first stallion in1987. Garrett O Rourke manages that farm, which is home to the stallion Mizzen Mast, and Teddy Grimthorpe is the operation s racing manager. Juddmonte sold Empire Maker to the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders Association in Nov After 5 years in Japan, Empire Maker was brought home to America and stands at Gainesway Farm in Kentucky. In 2015, American Pharoah, his grandson sired by Pioneer of the Nile, became the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years. Prince Abdullah started out with expensive purchases that set auction records in Europe

5 in the 1970s, but turned to his own homebreds after developing his breeding operations. Juddmonte Farms now consists of three properties in the United States and six properties in England and Ireland. Banstead Manor Farm near Newmarket is Juddmonte s main base in Europe and is home to Frankel; Dansili, the champion stallion in France in 2006; Champs Elysees, Kingman, Bated Breath, and Bated Breath, and is the former home of the late Rainbow Quest, sire of more than 100 stakes winners, until his death at age 26 in Prince Abdullah is semi-retired from overseeing Mawared, a conglomerate now run by his four sons with interests in television, satellite telephones, catering, electronics, insurance, and cement.
