2 INDOOR/OUTDOOR ARENAS START TIME 9.30 A.M. A small warm up area is provided in the Indoor Arena and you may also use the paddock for warm up. Classes may be spilt depending on entries. Rosettes to all entries. Long-Reining Agility Arena size 20m x 40m approx. Indoor Arena A long-reining competition that requires the handler to demonstrate their skills for working the horse through a course of obstacles (commonly known as tasks) such as cones, bridges and gates. The tasks are predominately negotiated at a walk pace but some tasks must be performed at the trot pace and points are deducted for a break of pace. The trot pace may be used when moving between tasks in the arena (if desired). The Handler, on entering the arena presents to the Judge. The Judge checks the cleanliness, fit and suitability of the equipment, and presentation of the complete turnout including the attire (outfit) of the Handler. The Handler, having passed through the Start markers, proceeds on course and attempts each task in numbered order. Each task must be completed in accordance with the criteria provided on the course plan or individual task plan. The Handler must pass through the Finish markers on completion of all tasks. The Handler may attempt a task as many times as desired, but must consider the impact of repeated attempts against the possibility of exceeding the Time Allowed for the competition. Handlers can request the assistance of their groom (if required), but every occurrence incurs 5 penalties. The competition is decided on the highest score, minus any penalties. Class 1: Open Long-Reining Agility Long-Reining Reinmanship Test 01 Arena size 20m x 40m approx. Outdoor Arena A NEW & INNOVATIVE COMPETITION a simplified dressage test where movements are performed at markers or between markers placed about the arena. Markers with RED sleeves must be passed on the RIGHT and WHITE sleeved markers on the LEFT, its pretty much the same as when you drive a cones course. Like Dressage, scores are awarded for each movement with the judge looking for the horse to be obedient, straight, supple and rhythmical. Each movement is marked out of a score of 10. The Handler needs to demonstrate a good workmanlike ability to drive the horse about the arena, confident in rein handling, and deliver an accurate test. A Presentation mark is awarded, taking into account the presentation of the compete turnout the cleanliness of the horse, handler and equipment. Class 2: Open Long-Reining Reinmanship Driven Agility - Summertime Special Arena size 20m x 40m approx. Indoor Arena (to follow classes 1) A skills test for the driver and groom. The skill tests are similar to those on the BDS Trec & Attelage competitions. Multiple turnouts permitted. Rosettes awarded to all Backsteppers! Class 3: Dinky Driven Agility - small ponies 12hh and under with unmounted groom. Class 4. Open Driven Agility (Dinkies in Class 3 not permitted) NOTE ABOUT SUMMER TURNOUT AWARD: Dress code permitted for Summer Turnout award includes Hawaiian Shirts, shorts, sleeveless shirts (but not vests/ singlets), skirts, plumage and flowers etc. Safety hats must be worn. Shoes must be enclosed and suitable for driving or long-reining (Flip Flops and Sandals are permitted at the picnic.).

3 PICNIC DRIVE CLASS Paddock Arena Starts on completion of the Class 4. A NEW & INNOVATIVE competition for those recreational drivers who would like to try a fun class. Competitors are judged on their driven workout and then the quality of their picnic. A picnic appropriate to the turnout and number of participants must be carried on the vehicle. All picnic participants must be on the carriage during the DRIVEN section of the class (except small ponies who may have an unmounted groom) and be present in the PICNIC section. A class in two sections: a performance DRIVEN section and a PICNIC section. DRIVEN section 50% To be judged on both reins in the ring at a walk, slow trot and working trot. May be asked to rein back. To stand quietly in the lineup. To be judged on performance, manners, overall impression. PICNIC section - 50% At the conclusion of the DRIVEN section, horses to be taken to the stable/parking area and removed from carriage. The picnic will then be judged as part of the class. Competitors may bring tables and chairs, tablecloths, picnic blankets and umbrellas for use by each turnout. Additional food and beverage, cutlery, plates etc. is not permitted. The picnic should contain your food and beverages, cutlery, cups/glasses, plates etc. To be judged on quality of picnic presentation. Competitors notes: The wearing of a safety hat is recommended. Anyone under the age of 18 years on the carriage MUST wear a safety hat. Competitors enter the arena with their picnic wares on the carriage. They must be accompanied by at least one groom mounted on the carriage, except small ponies that may have an unmounted groom present. Additional passengers may be carried on the vehicle, and if carried they must be included in the PICNIC section. Competitors will line up for presentation. The grooms will hand the picnic to the steward who will place each competitor s picnic at a numbered position in the Picnic area. This saves any food being jolted about on the carriage during the workout section - we want the picnic to be edible i.e. not crumbs! Each competitor will be marked on their presentation of their turnout (Hi-viz gear is not required) and perform a simple individual workout. The marks for the workout and presentation are 50% of the overall score (100 marks). On completion of the workout, all competitors will leave the arena and proceed to the Horsebox/Stabling area. All horses to be unharnessed, watered and put safe (15 minutes is given for this activity). Competitors, their grooms and any passengers to return to the Picnic area and set up their picnic. Changing of clothing permitted. Competitors may bring with them tables, chairs, umbrellas and other sundries (no additional food or beverages!). The competitor has 10 minutes to set up the picnic. The quality of the picnic is then judged out of 50 marks. It is optional for the judge to taste the food & beverage! The winner is the competitor with the highest score. Class 5: PICNIC DRIVE CLASS. Open to single and multiple turnouts. Small ponies may have an unmounted groom. Passengers permitted. Special prize for the best SUMMER PICNIC TABLE. Entry Fee 10 All competitors are welcome to join the picnic lunch on completion of the judging of the PICNIC CLASS for a social get together & presentation of awards for the Classes 1,2,3,4, & 5.

4 Driving Competitions START TIME 1.30 P.M. (ish) Paddock Arena Six Cones - a competition to test how good you are at driving in a straight line The course for this competition comprises six cone obstacles placed in a straight line with 6-8m between each cone obstacle. The obstacles become narrower down the line, and as the competition progresses. The obstacles must be driven at trot pace. In the event of equality of faults in the final drive-off competitors are placed equal. Wheel width must be set to 125cm (sorry we cannot accommodate carriages of various wheel widths in this class). Class 6: Six Cones Entry Fee 5 Precision & Speed The course is divided into two sections. The first or precision section consists of five to seven obstacles of progressively increasing severity designed to test the driver s precision skills. This section is driven not against the clock but with a time allowed. The competitor then proceeds straight to the second, or speed, section of the course. This consists of six to eight obstacles to be driven at speed (or optimum time). The Start and Finish is indicated for each section. Finish of the precision section to be start of speed section. The competition is decided by penalties and time over the speed section. Penalties for dislodging an obstacle in the Precision section is 10, and for every obstacle dislodged in the Speed section 10 seconds are added to the time. Classes open to singles and multiple turnouts. Class 7: Precision & Speed - Speed section with Optimum time. Suitable for Grassroots/Pre-novice/Novice drivers. Competitors in this class cannot compete in Class 8. Class 8: Precision & Speed - Speed section against the clock. Suitable for Novice/Intermediate/Open drivers. Competitors in this class cannot compete in Class 7. Double-Jeopardy To be driven over a course of up to 12 cone obstacles and up to 2 marathon obstacles. Combination obstacles are permitted. Grooms may direct and talk to the driver throughout the competition. A compulsory turning flag is included and must be driven. Failure to drive a compulsory marker will incur elimination. The competitor, having passed through the Start markers, shall proceed to drive the course in the correct numbered order including the marathon obstacles. The competitor, on completion of the highest numbered obstacle must drive the compulsory marker then drive the same course in reverse order. A signal may be given to stop the competitor to allow any dislodged obstacles to be rebuilt. The time is stopped when the competitor passes through the compulsory marker. When the signal is given to restart the round, the competitor must pass through the compulsory marker again in the correct direction to restart the timing. Any combination obstacle on the reverse course must be driven in reverse order, for example if an obstacle is driven A, B, C, D on the first course, on the reverse course it must be driven in the order D, C, B, A. Failure to correctly drive a combination obstacle in the right order, without correcting an error of course, results in elimination. The competition may be judged as a Fault Competition (optimum time), a fault competition with Time Allowed or as a Derby type competition where penalties are converted to seconds. Drivers and Grooms to wear back protectors in this class. Class 9: Double-Jeopardy - Fault Competition with Optimum time. Suitable for Grassroots/Pre-novice/Novice drivers. Competitors in this class cannot compete in Class 10. Class 10: Double-Jeopardy - Derby (against the clock) Suitable for Novice/Intermediate/Open drivers. Competitors in this class cannot compete in Class 9.

5 THE IMPORTANT STUFF, PLEASE READ: 1. It is the responsibility of all officials and competitors to ensure they have knowledge of the rules and comply with the rules. When you enter an event, you accept the rules and agree to abide by them. Breckland Carriage Driving Club runs its events in accordance with the Breckland Carriage Driving Club Rules and, where rules for competitions are non-existent, then the rules will be taken from the British Carriagedriving Rule Book or the FEI Rule Book for that event. 2. This can be in the form of a membership card for British Carriagedriving, membership from a British Carriagedriving club, BHS Gold, British Driving Society (restricted to competitions run under Optimum time only) or a personal insurance policy covering driving activities. 3. It is the responsibility of ALL persons involved in carriage driving events (officials, drivers, grooms, spectators etc.) to ensure that they remain safe at all times. Drivers must ensure that they have control of their turnout at all times to safeguard themselves, their groom(s) and passenger(s) and everyone involved in the sport. Any horse or pony that rears, bucks or kicks whilst in carriage may be subject to a safety assessment and where a risk is identified will be disqualified. 4. Parents, Guardians and Carers are responsible for ensuring young and vulnerable people are kept safe at events. Young children must not be left unaccompanied whilst at an event (e.g. left in a horsebox alone). The club has a zero tolerance on bullying of any kind. 5. 7 Long-Reining Reinmanship Arena Size 20m x 40m. Breckland Carriage Driving Club Think of Long-Reining Reinmanship as a simplified dressage test where movements are performed at markers or between markers placed about the arena, instead of the 12 letters placed outside the arena. These markers, usually cones, are placed at various positions about the arena. Markers with RED sleeves must be passed on the RIGHT and WHITE sleeved markers on the LEFT, the same as when you drive a cones course. The term boards is used throughout the test to instruct you to follow the boards that enclose the arena, for example, continue to the boards and turn right or continue along the boards simply means just that, you continue until you reach the boards and make a turn or follow the boards that make up the arena, along short and long sides until you reach the next marker. A Presentation mark is awarded for the presentation of the compete turnout, taking into account the cleanliness of the horse, handler and equipment. These competitions are open to handlers of all ages and abilities, with horses of all sizes and at varying stages of training (ridden or driven). Note that the dress code is workmanlike with the wearing of show jackets optional, but obviously a smartly dressed Handler will gain more Presentation marks. Handlers must wear a secured safety helmet that meets current Standards and gloves. Shoes should be sturdy and suitable for the arena surface such as riding boots or equestrian trainers that are specifically designed for yard work and training from the ground. Horses need not be plaited, but again a well turned out horse for competition will gain more presentation marks and is also pleasant to watch. Equipment used must be a safe condition. Equipment used for schooling your horse such as a lungeing roller may be used with a riding bridle or parts of a driving harness (e.g. driving pad and blinkered bridle) and blinkered bridle. A full set of harness is optional for these competitions. General: 1. For safety, the handler must maintain a safe position behind the horse. 2. Horses may compete from the age of 3 years, providing they have reached a suitable level of training to compete in these classes. 3. The handler must be dressed appropriately, in workmanlike clothing with sturdy shoes. Handlers must wear a securely fastened safety hat and gloves. 4. Reins must be unconnected and be attached to the bit. 5. No artificial training aids permitted (side reins, head-checks, martingales etc.). 6. No leg protection to be worn (e.g. boots, bandages). 7. A whip may be carried by the handler. 8. A groom may be present at the ringside to assist when needed. Any assistance incurs penalties. Junior handlers under the age of 18 MUST have an competent adult groom available at the ringside to assist as needed. Any assistance incurs penalties. 9. Callers are permitted. A person calling the test must remain at a centre marker outside the dressage arena as directed by the Judge or Steward.
