Entries will be taken on Saturday, but not Sunday due to scheduling. Levels/Divisions ~ VSE, Pony, Horse & Pair/Multiple (All Open), Novice Whip and Challenged Driver. At least three entries are required for a division to be considered filled. Management reserves the right to combine or eliminate divisions based on entries or at their discretion. Obstacle Class Notes ~ Progressive Cones, Gambler s Choice and Cross Country Obstacles/Cones. May have some water. Awards Offered ~ Rosettes 1st ~ 6th. Special Concours d' Elegance Award. Special awards for Division Champions. All classes are included for points toward Division championships, except Lady to Drive, Gentleman to Drive, Dog to Ride, Drive & Ride and Well Worn Whips. Fees Fee Per Class: $15.00 Post Entry Fee: $25.00 Enter (6) Division Classes for Championship $85.00 Post Entry Fee: $ Enter ALL Eligible Classes (Includes Novelty Classes) $ Post Entry Fee: $ ADS Non-Member Fee: $30.00 Refund Policy: Total entry fee less $25.00 program fee with (24) hours notice. Stabling For Full Weekend $70.00 Stall ~ One Night: $35.00 Grounds Fee, Non-Stall Use $10.00 per day Stall Fee, if not cleaned: $25.00 Stabling is located on grounds. Entries using trailers or portable pens for stabling must pay $10.00 facility fee, plus $15.00 per day. No Stall Deposit, but stall must be carefully picked out or pay a $25.00 cleaning fee. Stall Refund Policy ~ No stall refunds. Competitor must provide their own shavings. Paddocks will also be available. Call Organizer for additional information. Competitors Party ~ Dinner & Dancing Per Person: $15.00 Make checks payable to Tejas Carriage Association General Notes Mail entries to Show Secretary. Make checks payable to Tejas Carriage Association (TCA). In-state entries, negative Coggins within (1) year of show date. Out-of-state entries, health certificate within (30) days of show date. Camping on show grounds allowed. No hookups available. Entry form must be signed by exhibitor and anyone riding on the vehicle. Food will be available on grounds. A change of vehicle will be allowed for Sunday s event. Pneumatic wheels are only allowed in the VSE division. Management reserves the right to eliminate or combine classes or divisions. Schedule Stabling Opens: September 11th at 12:00 PM. Secretary s Office Opens: September 11th at 6:00 PM. Course Walk & Briefing: Saturday night before Competitor s Party (Approximately 6:00 PM)

Working 32 Open Pony Cross Country Obstacles 14 Drive and Ride 33 Open Horse Progressive Cones 15 Dog to Ride (Non ADS) 34 Open Horse Gambler s Choice 16 Challenged Driver Working 35 Open Horse Cross Country Obstacles 17 Challenged Driver Super Reinsmanship 36 Open Pair/Multiple Progressive Cones 18 Challenged Driver Gambler s Choice 37 Open Pair/Multiple Gambler s Choice 19 Open Horse Super Reinsmanship 38 Open Pair/Multiple Cross Country Obstacles The TCA Carriage Classic is approved by the American Driving Society and every class offered herein which is covered by the current rules and specifications of the Society will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. **** Competitors are responsible for knowledge of ADS rules. Any difference between descriptions herein and the ADS Rulebook, 2015 edition, the Rulebook shall prevail. **** A bridle with a rein attached and passed through the saddle terrets must be in place when a horse is put to a vehicle. A horse must never be left unattended while put to a vehicle. Failure to comply will incur elimination! Article 6. **** All courses will be posted in the program and available to all competitors when they receive packets. Championship Rules The Championships will be awarded in six divisions: Horse, Pony, VSE, Pair/Multiple, Novice and Challenged Driver. The turnout with the most accumulated points in their division will receive an award and a rosette. Any division or class must have a minimum of three (3) competitors or may be cancelled or combined at management s discretion. In this competition, an entry is defined as a combination of horse(s), vehicle, and driver and will be assigned a specific entry number. Changes are only allowed to the carriage for Sunday s classes. Championship points are accumulated based on number of entries per class, not to exceed five points. For example, if there are ten entries in a class, first place will receive five points, second will receive four points, and so on to fifth place. Rosettes are provided through sixth place and will be awarded at the end of each class. Division Championships will be awarded after all classes are completed and final points totaled. Rules to Remember Someone MUST be in attendance of a horse put to a carriage at all times. Never remove the bridle of a hitched horse. Never lead a horse put to a carriage All Juniors MUST wear Protective Headgear which meets or exceeds current ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) - SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carry the SEI tag. All dogs must be on a leash at all times while on show grounds. This policy will be strictly enforced. Management reserves the right to cancel, combine, or change classes, schedule, courses etc. at their discretion.
4 Rules, Definitions & Qualifications for Divisions Entry ~ An entry is defined as a combination of horse(s), vehicle and driver and will be assigned a specific entry number. At the Carriage Classic no changes will be allowed in the equine/whip combination, but a carriage change is allowed for Sunday s obstacle classes. Article 203 Novice ~ Entries are ineligible for Novice classes after winning at least one first place ribbon in each of three ADS-recognized and/or USEF-licensed Carriage Pleasure driving competitions. Article Junior ~ Junior A - competition age: 10 and below. Junior A drivers may not compete in any classes held outside a securely enclosed arena and must be accompanied by a knowledgeable adult horseman at all times. c) Junior B - competition age 11, 12, 13. Junior B drivers must be accompanied by a knowledgeable adult horseman at all times. EXCEPTION: Junior B drivers competing with a single Very Small Equine (VSE defined by Articles 29.3 or 914.2) turnout in a securely enclosed arena need not be accompanied by a knowledgeable adult horseman unless required by the organizer. d) Junior C - competition age 14, 15, 16, 17, 18. Junior C drivers competing with a single horse/pony turnout at their discretion need not carry a groom/ passenger unless required by the competition. Article 2.7A-D Challenged Driver ~ All ADS rules apply with consideration of physical limitations. Waivers requested for physical limitations will be considered on an individual basis. Divisional classes for Challenged Drivers are Working, Super Reinsmanship and Gambler s Choice. Horse ~ Equines over 14.2 hands in height will be classified as horses. Exception: A registered horse of a breed permitting horses to be 14.2 or under (i.e., Arabian, Morgan, Quarter Horse, etc.) may show in either division but only one size division at the same show. Article Pony ~ Equines 14.2 hands and under will be classified as ponies. Article VSE ~ Very Small Equines (VSE) not to exceed 9.3 hands (99cm or 39 inches). Article Pair/Multiple ~ All configurations of multiple equines are allowed with prior notice for 4 in hands, unicorns, and other turnouts of over 2 equines. Article Class Descriptions Cross Country Obstacles ~ A cones class to be driven over a prescribed course of natural and/or artificial obstacles designed to simulate those that might be encountered on a country drive (i.e. bridges, water, log pile, farm animal pens, etc.) Obstacles should be designed to be easily driven and are not to simulate Combined Driving Obstacles. Obstacles must be clearly numbered. After passing through the Start markers, the driver shall proceed through each obstacle, in order, keeping within the limits of the designated course markers and passing through the designated Finish markers. a) Placings will be determined on a low fault basis (i.e. those with fewer faults finish ahead of those with more faults). b) Course faults and one fault for each commenced second over the Time Allowed are added together for a total score. c) The Time Allowed is to be calculated as per Article 52. d) Time will decide ties for those with equal fault totals. Article Progressive Cones ~ To be driven at a trot over a course of six numbered obstacles which will be adjusted to the following clearances: #1-20 (51cm), #2-16 (41cm), #3-12 (30cm), #4-8 (20cm), #5-4 (10cm) and #6-2 (5cm). Article 249.2
5 Class Descriptions, continued Gambler s Choice ~ 1. To be driven over a course of unnumbered obstacles each carrying a specific point value. 2. Each driver has the same allowed time to negotiate as many obstacles as possible. Each obstacle is assigned a point value according to its degree of difficulty and each driver tries to amass as high a score as possible within the time allowed. 3. After passing through the Start markers, the driver may drive through the obstacles, in any order, from any direction. Each obstacle may be driven twice, but not in succession. If driven a third time, no points will be awarded. 4. No obstacle may be redriven once it has been disturbed. (Exception: obstacles which are designed to be knocked down.) 5. No points will be awarded for an incorrectly completed obstacle. If the obstacle is incorrectly driven, but not disturbed, it may be attempted again. 6. If a horse should refuse or run out at an obstacle without disturbing it, the driver may elect not to attempt it and may drive to another obstacle without penalty. The obstacle may be attempted later. If it is correctly driven the appropriate points will be recorded. 7. A signal will sound at the end of the allowed time and the driver must then exit through the Finish markers where the total time on course will be recorded. Article Super Reinsmanship ~ Specifications - To be judged on the driver s skill: use of aids, control of the horse(s), accuracy, quality of transitions and gaits, with additional consideration of impressions of the turnout and driver. This class will be held in an open area with varying terrain. There will be a prescribed course to be negotiated. Article 225 Turnout ~ A Pleasure Driving class in which entries are judged primarily on the performance and quality of each turnout. To be shown both ways of the arena at a walk, slow trot, working trot, and strong trot. To stand quietly and to rein back. To be judged: 70% on the condition, fit and appropriateness of harness and vehicle, neatness and appropriateness of attire and overall impression, 30% on performance, manners and way of going. Article 218 Working ~ A Pleasure Driving class in which entries are judged primarily on the suitability of the horse to provide a pleasant drive. To be shown both ways of the arena at a walk, slow trot, working trot and strong trot. To stand quietly, both on the rail and while lined up, and to rein back. To be judged: 70% on performance, manners and way of going of the horse(s), 20% on the condition and fit of harness and vehicle, 10% on neatness of attire. Article 219 Gentleman to Drive, Working ~ A working class as described above that is limited to male driver entries Lady to Drive, Working ~ A working class as described above that is limited to female driver entries. Drive and Ride ~ Single horse to be shown in two concurrent sections: 1. In Harness: To be shown to a suitable pleasure driving vehicle, both ways of the arena at a walk, slow trot, working trot, and strong trot. To stand quietly and to rein back. 2. Under Saddle: To be shown both ways of the arena at a walk, trot, and canter. To stand quietly and to rein back. 3. To be judged: 50% on performance, manners, way of going and suitability in harness. 50% on performance, manners, and way of going under saddle. Article 228 Dog to Ride (non ADS) ~ A light hearted class that could be called Dogs in Drag. Costumes are allowed. Dogs should display all the qualities of the finest coaching canines First and foremost the attitude that they belong on the carriage and they are the center of attention. Multiple Dogs are allowed, but MUST be in control at all times. Dogs may be leashed and loosely connected with the driver but MUST NOT be tied to the carriage. Competitors will be severely penalized if the dog interferes with the ability of the driver to control the turnout in its entirety. Two-thirds of the total proceeds from the Silent Auction will be donated to local therapeutic driving programs.
