1 A copy of the event schedule for the NICDA Championships to be held at Scarvagh House on 18 th and 19 th August is now available. Due to a lack of events this season as a result of poor ground conditions, the organisers have stated that the marathon will be horse-friendly with none of the hills often associated with Scarva, and be of a shorter than normal Championship distance, approx km in total. So please do enter and support the Championships in their new venue. Entries for the club classes of the Championships can be made as usual by phone or to Sharon Duckett as early as possible, but by Tuesday 14th August at the latest to allow all necessary paperwork and administration to be completed. You do not need to complete an entry form for club classes. If you are hoping to enter a Regional Qualifier for the BHDTA Championships at Windsor in September, then you need to complete the BHDTA entry form which can also be found on the website, and send this to Sharon by Thursday 9 th August, along with a cheque for your entry fee (made payable to NICDA Necarne A/C) and a cheque for your start fee (made payable to BHDTA). Details of amounts payable can be found on schedule. More information regarding the Regional Qualifiers may be found on the BHDTA website, or contact Event Organisers for clarification.!

All other competitors taking part in the NICDA Club Championships will drive the same tests as at all NICDA events this year, as detailed in the yearbook. Qualifier Classification: Primarily all classes are the Club Championships of the N.I. Carriage Driving Association. However, the Novice, Intermediate, Open and Multiple classes indicated * also incorporate the Qualifiers for the National Championships of the BHDTA to be held in Windsor To enter a Regional Qualifier, the competitor must meet the following eligibility, however, if a competitor does not wish to compete in a Regional Qualifier, they may still enter any class solely as a competitor in the NICDA Championships. To be eligible to drive in a National Novice (Level 2) Qualifier, a driver must: a) Have successfully completed all three phases, with a minimum three section marathon, at three affiliated Club events within the current or previous two seasons. A competence card must be completed before entering event (contact Event Secretary for details)

3 b) Not have previously competed at a National event unless in a Novice Qualifier class. c) Not have finished in the top 50% of the class in the National Novice Championships. d) Nor have won two National Novice Qualifiers e) Nor have qualified for the National Novice Qualifiers in 2006 or earlier. To be eligible to compete in the National Intermediate (Level 3) Qualifier, a driver must have: a) qualified for the National Novice Championships or b) have finished in the first three at an approved Novice Qualifying event on three occasions within the current or previous two seasons, or c) have competed previously in an Intermediate class. The driver must not have: d) won an Intermediate class on two occasions, nor e) finished in the top 50% of the class in the National Intermediate Championships, nor f) have competed in an Open or Advanced class at a National event. Presentation: On the move during dressage except for Novice classes and All Sorts which will be judged at the halt 30 minutes before dressage. Dressage: Dressage for all classes will be driven in a 100m x 40m arena. Marathon: N.B: Due to a lack of events this season as a result of poor weather, the marathon course will be horsefriendly with an approximate total distance km. Section A will be on roads and tracks with no hills, and will be a fairly short distance. Section D will be on a lane / track. Section E will have eight obstacles including water for all classes with the exception of class 12 (All Sorts), who will only complete Section E with five designated obstacles which may have some gates eliminated at the discretion of the Technical Delegate. All obstacles will be in the main event field and within easy walking distance of parking and stable area. Competitors are reminded that it is NOT permitted for any driver or groom to walk / view Section A or D prior to the marathon being driven. Competitors ARE allowed to walk Section E and the obstacles once the course has been opened for inspection. Motorised Vehicles: Due to the recent wet weather and ground conditions, the organisers have requested that NO MOTORISED VEHICLES be used by anyone during the event to view course / obstacles. Only competitors who have been granted special permission by the Event Organisers may use their vehicle. Competitors are kindly urged to observe and respect signs / instructions given by organisers and stewards during the event regarding this matter. Stabling: Unfortunately, due to ground conditions, the landowners have requested that NO TEMPORARY STABLING be used. However, stabling is available on-site at a price of 20 per stable for the weekend, with straw bedding included. Anyone wishing to use their own bedding is allowed to do so. Please indicate when placing entry with Sharon how many stables are required, and for how many nights. All stables must be left clean, with all waste/bedding removed on departure.

4 Catering: On-site mobile catering will be available during the day on Saturday and Sunday. A wine and cheese reception will be held on the Friday evening. A supper function will be organised for Saturday night onsite, with the prize giving for the dressage and cones competitions taking place. It is anticipated that there will be bar facilities available on the Saturday evening. Starting times Will be available on Thursday 16th August after 7.00 p.m. and will also be displayed on the NICDA website. Entry & Start Fees; Entry fee is 50 (sterling only please), Juniors, 25. Cheques should be made payable to NICDA Necarne A/C and must accompany entry (HSI entries may pay cash on arrival at event). In addition, all entries for the Regional Qualifiers will have to pay start fees of 10 for the Intermediate and Open Single classes; 25 for Pairs and 45 for Four in hands. There is no Start Fee in 2012 for Novice classes. Start fees will be payable on collection of event paperwork. N.B: These starts fee do NOT apply for competitors who only wish to enter the NICDA club championships in the Novice, Intermediate, Open, Pairs and Four-in-hand classes. Use this form to enter NATIONAL or REGIONAL horse driving trials competitions. Additional forms can be downloaded from the BHDTA website Competitors in all classes must be current BHDTA members. Competitors in National Novice classes can compete at Regional and National events as Associate members. IF THE ENTRY FORM IS NOT COMPLETED CORRECTLY OR IS ILLEGIBLE, THE EVENT SECRETARY HAS THE RIGHT TO RETURN IT AND REFUSE ENTRY! PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES If the driver is under 18 years of age, the name of a responsible adult (over 18) who will be able to attend in case the driver s horse(s) are selected for drug testing, must be given on the entry form.
