Exhibitors entering hard copies will receive similar bar coded sheets via US mail. Bring bar code to gate 4 to be scanned. All exhibitor households will receive one sticker for gate 4 livestock parking lot, one sticker for C lot at Carter Finley and five wristbands valid for show period entered. Beginning on Thursday, October 11, a roundtrip shuttle from C lot to Gate 4 will be provided from 6 AM to 9 PM daily. DEPARTMENT 015 OPEN MEAT BREEDS SHEEP Total Premiums Offered $39,375 SUPERINTENDENT: CLARENCE JENNINGS- Camden, NC JUDGE: ALAN BRUHIN - Sevierville, TN Health Regulations - see page 15 INFORMATION FOR SHEEP EXHIBITORS CHECK IN: Animals should arrive at the fairgrounds between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 14, Animals will not be allowed to enter the barns until inspected and passed by health officials. An approval card will be issued after inspection, prior to entering the barn. SHOW DATE: Tuesday, October 16 at 9:00 AM. RELEASE TIME: Upon completion of show or by 9:00 AM Wednesday, October 17 COMPETITION: Open to the World RULES AND REGULATIONS Except in case of conflict, in which event the following Rules and Regulations will prevail, the Rules and Regulations of the Livestock Division, and the General Rules and Regulations of the Fair will govern this department. BE SURE TO READ BOTH BEFORE ENTERING OR COMPETING IN THIS DEPARTMENT. Some-but not all-are repeated herewith for emphasis, and others of the following Rules and Regulations apply only to this department. MAKE YOUR ENTRIES EARLY! The right is reserved to reject applications received after all available space is taken. Enter online at or official printed forms must be used in making applications for entry. forms for entries in other departments. Pen space will be assigned by the superintendent. List the class number, as indicated in the premium list, for which each entry is made. Do not make entries in the Championship classes. Indicate if you plan to make entries in the group classes, but it is not necessary to name the animals which will make up your group entry until after the judging of the individual classes. Entries in group classes must have previously been exhibited in the individual classes. All animals over three (3) months of age must be registered with their breed association in the name of the bona fide owner, who must have owned the animal for at least 30 days prior to October 1, DEPT OPEN MEAT BREEDS SHEEP
2 List on the application form the registry number, date of birth, sex and number of each animal. Registration papers will be checked prior to the show. ALL SHEEP MUST BE CLEAN AND PROPERLY FITTED TO QUALIFY FOR ENTRY IN THIS SHOW. No exhibitor may win more than two premium monies in any one class. In addition, premiums and ribbons will be awarded to exhibitors of N.C. bred and owned animals in all singles classes, excluding championship classes, provided the N.C. bred and owned animals place in the top half of the open class, or at the judges discretion if placed below top half of class. Each exhibitor will be limited to one entry in each of the group classes. The health regulations of the Veterinary Division of the NCDA will be strictly enforced. Be sure to read these under "Rules and Regulations of the Livestock Division" before entering. Any questionable health problems will be referred to the livestock director and/or the State Veterinarian. Animals with obvious abscesses (opened or unopened), ringworm, soremouth or any other contagious disease WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE BARN. All sheep must be appropriately identified and comply with USDA and NCDA&CS Scrapie Eradication Program guidelines. Call USDA TAG ( ) or for more information. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO MAINTAIN A BREED SHOW A breed must have a minimum of three exhibitors and a minimum of 25 head shown in the individual classes to maintain a show. If a breed falls below these requirements, it will be automatically placed on a one-year probation. If a breed falls below the minimum requirements for two consecutive years, the show will be dropped. STARTING A NEW SHOW, LIVE ANIMAL DISPLAYS Space is not adequate to allow the addition of a new breed or display at this time. When facilities are adequate, the following rules will apply: Application for new breed show must be made to the State Fair General Livestock Director by December 1 of the year preceding the date of the proposed show. Assurance of at least two exhibitors and a minimum of 20 head for individual classes is required. If the request is approved, a show classification will be added. A new breed failing to meet the minimum requirements to maintain a show (3 exhibitors, 25 head) during the second year will be placed on a one-year probation. The breed will be dropped if it fails to meet the minimum requirements during the third year. Section 112 SHEPHERD S CONTEST PREMIUMS Shepherds 1st $25 Shepherds 2nd $20 Shepherds 3rd $15 Shepherds 4th $10 Shepherds 5th $8 All shepherds in charge of sheep at the State Fair will automatically be considered to be entrants in this contest, designed to promote neatness, courtesy, attention to show requirements, and all around efficiency on the part of the personnel in charge of the animals in exhibit. The contest will start Monday, October 15, at 9:00 AM and will continue through Wednesday, October 17, at 8:00 AM. The score card which will serve as a basis for the judges making their decision will be found under the Herdsmen s Contest section of the General Rules and Regulations of the Livestock Division.
