After two evening sessions of theory/videos etc. there will be a session involving some riding and also assessing various ponies under saddle to see how they move compared to one another and what training might improve their ways of going. We will also try to relate the topics to our own training. This rally is suitable for junior riders upwards and for anyone interested in improving their and their pony's flatwork through a better understanding of the scales of training etc. Ridden/assessment will be a maximum of 4 per group. 2 Talk New Forest Ponies with Simon and Shirley Young at Farriers Stud Rally contact Sue Mitchell Come and learn about New Forest Ponies at one of our well known local studs. The Youngs will be talking about the breed, conformation, temperament, early handling of the newly weened foals, and also look at some older ponies to see how the ponies mature and what handling and work the ponies need at each stage. This rally will contribute to the Native Pony and Public Speaking badge, see below R156 Friday 26th October Farriers Stud, Landford, SP5 2AS 11am (1 ½ to 2 hours) 3 Badge Native Pony and Public Speaking Badge Building on what the children have learnt at the New Forest Pony talk on 26th October we will be running the Native Pony and Public Speaking badge. We will talk about the native pony breeds and the children will have a chance to make a short presentation about a breed of native pony during the evening. Susan Mitchell and I will be giving them some tips about successful public speaking. They will need to do some preparation at home before the badge. If any children don t want to talk in public they can prepare some written information to gain their native pony badge and learn from listening to the others. Children don t have to attend the talk on 26 Oct to gain their badges. R169 Monday 19 th November Barn at Tilefield, Tilefield Lane, Brockenhurst pm 4 Working Rallies (for ALL Pony Club test levels - Flatwork and Jumping) from Minis through to C+/B Test riding and beyond - with Roland Bellido Roland is our chief instructor, we really encourage you to come to as many of these rallies as you can so that Roland can see the children ride as this enables him to plan and direct the training in the most appropriate way for everyone. These rallies are for ALL levels and with Pony Club tests coming up we will be covering all test syllabus from D test through to B test. Working Rallies cover all aspects of riding, flat work, pole work or jumping for riders of all ages to improve rider position and ability, understanding of aids and improving your pony s way of going. 4 Have-a-go dressage test practice rally with Amanda Barton Aimed at our younger members who want to have a go at our dressage competition on 22 Oct. Working in small groups we will help prepare members for the walk and trot and Preliminary (walk, trot and canter) tests. Assistance is allowed at the competition so children on the lead rein and just off are very welcome as well any anyone who has not done much dressage before and wants to gain confidence before going to a competition. Tests will be provided on the day and all children will have the chance to run through their tests individually. 5 Intro to Jumping with Genny Randall Rally Contact Amanda Barton This rally is aimed at our younger members, those with young or inexperienced ponies, those who want to increase their confidence and anyone who wants to improve their control and balance. Sessions will build work with poles, grids, courses or advance skills such as jumping skinnies and corners. All are very welcome and will be grouped according to experience. Small groups of 3 or 4. R160 Saturday 3 rd November The Fortune Centre, Avon Tyrrell, BH23 8EE Groups from 1pm R181 Thursday 3 rd January Arena at Tilefield, Tilefield Lane, Brockenhurst, SO42 7UF Groups from 9am XC Training with Becky Sporne Stour XC has something suitable for all our members. The mini course consists of 9 fences (30/35cm) and is suitable for minis on and off the lead rein. Stour's main training field is suitable for 60cms upwards with a variety of fences, water, ditches and a bank. Mini course - 20 Main course - 25 Before coming to a XC rally please ensure that your body protector meets the BETA 2009 Level 3 standard, this has a purple label. Older body protector standards are no longer allowed under Pony Club rules. R151 Saturday 20 th October Stour XC, Field Dairy Farm, Spetisbury, Blandford, DT11 9EE Groups from We will be continuing with our Wednesday evening Tet and Eventing training, the venue will alternate between Lyndhurst Lodge, Copythorne and Tilefield Arena, Brockenhurst from 5pm. Mounted Games with Amanda Barton Mounted games dismounted evening A fun evening for children and parents aimed at anyone whose child has an interest in taking part in any Mounted games competition in Children need to be no older than 10 on 1 January Children will take part in fun dismounted games during the evening. For parents, Amanda will run through what is involved with competing in our region and think ahead about training to achieve this. Please come along if you have even wondered about getting involved. It is a HUGE amount of fun for parents as well as children due to the very strong team element of this discipline. Children on the lead rein are very welcome as there are novice classes for them. Many of our best event riders started out with PC mounted games, take this opportunity to get involved! 6 Mounted games Younger children will be focusing on basic riding skills, using the mounted games equipment to make sessions fun and interesting. We will be practicing transitions, turning, steering, riding position and balance, while at the same time building good mounted games technique. Children interested in riding on the team will be focusing on games technique, riding races and practicing for fun or PC and MGA competitions. The lessons are structured to cover all of the requirements of the tests and we welcome all members working towards these tests either in 2018 or after.
