2 MESSAGE FROM THE NECWPCA COMMITTEE It is now many months since we all sat down to discuss how we wanted to celebrate our 20 th Anniversary. When we put together all the many suggestions, it became clear that a one day show would not be enough. We also decided that it would be a great idea to have an Evening Performance, to bring a little glitz and glamour to the region but, unfortunately, Richmond EC could not give us the two consecutive days we required for our usual date at the beginning of May. Every alternative venue was explored and dismissed so it was back to Richmond to see just what weekend we could have in Spring. The last bank holiday weekend was free and so it was duly booked. We realised that the show would clash with Hambleton and also West Yorkshire WP&C Association. Unfortunately, it doesn t seem to matter what date you book an event, it always conflicts with someone else s show. As we are holding all the Welsh classes on the Sunday, that will give people the chance to still enter the West Yorkshire show on the Monday. Fortunately, Hambleton do not specifically rely on Welsh entries, so we felt our show would probably not affect their event adversely. Once we had set the date and venue, it was very interesting to see just how many suggestions there were then being thrown into the mix, and we sincerely hope that the finished programme is going to be a great experience for all our competitors. Gary was very keen on giving something back to all those who have supported us over the past twenty years, and we have certainly spared no expense to ensure that everyone goes away from the show with at least a commemorative rosette. Our 2013 Spring Catalogue will be full of pictures, many in colour, and articles about some of our most notable studs and competitors, and will also include a reprint of the very first Catalogue of the show that was held back in 1993 at the original Holmside Arena. You may be surprised to see many familiar names of ponies, cobs and their handlers! More sprightly back then to be sure, but great to see them still competing today. We have tracked down some of our oldest past Supreme Champions and Section Champions and they will be parading during the Evening Performance. Some will just be names you see in our present catalogues in the Sire and Dam columns and it will be a unique opportunity to see them in the flesh, still strutting their stuff. I paid my first visit to Equifest two seasons ago, and I was so impressed with the Concours D elegance classes that I felt they had to be a part of our show, together with the Pairs of course. It is an opportunity to add that touch of glamour to the proceedings and to give everyone the chance to experience a part of the Major Summer s most never get to see. May I please stress that this is not Fancy Dress! A lot of research goes into an authentic Concours outfit and much ingenuity into designing, and making, an outfit that will reflect the combined elegance of pony and rider. As for the Pairs classes, these can range from two mounts, who are as alike in colour and size as it is possible to be, to the extreme contrast of a Shetland Pony and Coloured Horse. All were on show at Equifest and we are hoping that many of you will take the opportunity to show just how talented our local riders are! As you go through the schedule, you will notice we are offering many more championships than usual and they all qualify for the Overall Supreme s, which are held during the Evening Performance on the Sunday and at the conclusion of all the classes on the Monday. Please check that you do not miss any championships, or supreme championships, for which you qualify your ponies and cobs. For the Welsh Sections, we are awarding two championships during the day, a Youngstock and Adult. The two champions and reserves will then go through to the Evening Performance to compete for their respective s and Silver Medals. We have also decided to have separate Section Gelding s as well as the Supreme on the night. After many years of sponsorship, there will no longer be Millcroft Gelding qualifiers for the Welsh National Show. The Millcroft Stud have done so much to promote Geldings over the years, that we feel we should continue to give them prominence at our own events. This Anniversary Show will only be a success if we have the support of you all. The closing date is as late as possible to give us time to have the Catalogue printed, so I am afraid there will not be the usual opportunity for late entries! We look forward to seeing you at Richmond Equestrian Centre.
