3 THE AAES programs were founded on the principles of "integrity" and "personal best" to include student development in areas of leadership, critical thinking, goal setting and achievement. Providing a safe environment where students will "dare to make mistakes", the Academy fosters and supports students in reaching for excellence. Students, as an outcome of the program, learn to collaborate and develop partnerships with horses, teachers and other students of the AAES programs. The innovative and effective teaching at AAES provides opportunities and life skills for the certificate student. Every participant must be enrolled in a riding lesson package in order to participate in any of our optional programs. OPTION I: RIDER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The Whole Equestrian Package Riding: A minimum of one lesson per week: private or group The Rider Certificate Program (RCP) is our signature program and is designed for the ambitious goal oriented rider. Each participant earns one rank at a time from beginner all the way to advanced level rider. The Rider Certificate Program includes: Theory: Theory classes cover a wide variety of level-appropriate topics to round out your equestrian education and give you a deeper understanding of the equestrian art. Most theory classes are held on Fridays and attendance is mandatory for those wishing to test. Testing: Testing in summer of 2015 will mark the culmination to another year s hard work on and off horseback! The test is designed to measure the level of knowledge and skill gained during the year and is composed of three parts: a verbal quiz, written test, and practical riding exam. Testing is required for advancement to the next level. STARTING from the basic levels through Grand Prix, the American Academy of Equestrian Sciences (AAES) Rider Certificate Program is a strategic and systematic step by step system. It combines hands-on, practical learning with classroom education in the art of classical horsemanship. The AAES Rider Certificate Program's mission is to provide its students the highest quality of equestrian education in the pursuit of excellence for riding and training. RCP PROGRAM COST The Rider Certificate Program (RCP) starts Monday, September 1, 2014 and is an annual enrollment program. Tuition for the RCP portion is $520 a year and is in addition to riding program costs. The enrollment fee includes theory classes & testing and is due at enrollment. Each RCP participant must be enrolled in a semester lesson package. Re-enrollment each year is automatic unless cancelled by the participant. Marina Genn at 16 years of age
4 OPTION II: HELPER PROGRAM Each level includes: Theory and Hands-on Barn & Horse Management Education The Helper Program is designed for the well rounded horse enthusiast! Providing the opportunity for our young riders to enter into a three-level systematic step-by-step program where the participant learns about barn and horse management, social skills, time management, organizational skills, and team work. Skills are developed through riding lessons, theory classes and practical training in horse and barn management. Entry and graduation to new levels is based on an individual s readiness to learn and be responsible for new and exciting tasks. Each participant advances as they master the skills required for the next level. Helper in Training (Level I -- beginner program ages 8 and up) A Helper in Training must be able to identify and carry a saddle and bridle. They must also be able to un-tack and groom a horse including picking all hooves. In addition to the Theory Classes and Riding Lessons, the HiT spends blocks of 3 hours learning and implementing barn and horsemanship tasks and duties. Participants must master all required skills before advancing to the next level. Assistant Helper (AH) Level II: Before entering this level, the Assistant Helper must be able to tack and un-tack unassisted. Building on the skills mastered in the Helper in Training program, students will learn and experience more in depth about time management and leadership skills. Assistant Helpers come for their training Saturday mornings from 6:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Helper Being proficient in all the Helper in Training and Helper Assistant skills, the Helper now takes the roll of a supervisor, teacher and instructor. Taking turns, one Helper at a time is in charge of of finishing any assigned project and guiding their team members (Helpers in Training and Assistant Helpers) to a successful completion. This Program is the foundation to leadership and competence. HELPER PROGRAM COST The Helper Program starts Monday, September 1, Tuition for the Helper Program is broken down as follows: Level Annual Semester Monthly Helper in Training* $ 950 $ 296 $ 120 Assistant Helper* $ 800 $ 240 $ 100 Helper* ********NO CHARGE******** In order to participate in the Helper Program students must be enrolled in the lesson program. Tuition for the Helper program is in addition to lesson costs. We will be happy to prorate tuition for those enrolling mid-year.
