2 Foreword Welcome to the dispersal of Friesian Holstein dairy cattle on behalf of Andrew & Jane Sealy. The sale arises due to the decision by Mr Sealy to relinquish his tenancy and retire from farming after his 65 year tenure at Croft farm. The herd was started by Andrew s grandfather in 1937 and has been managed on a commercial basis throughout this time. Originally milked through bails in the 40 s and 50 s dams are now milked through a herringbone 12/12 parlour and concentrates are fed during milking. Cows are milked twice daily, by Mr Sealey himself, off good well managed leys in summer with a winter feed consisting of home produced grass and maize silage. Cubicle housed during winter, the herd is predominantly home bred and show good signs of strength and stature throughout. An all year round calving pattern exists with some slightly heavier loading in April and May. The herd is not NMR recorded. Selected dams are served to British Friesian through Genus AI with current sires including Tonic and Maverick. Fertility plus AI is also used which consists of all Belgian Blue straws. A pedigree Aberdeen Angus stock sire is used as a sweeper sire. A small group of some 20 earlier calved cows and in-calf heifers were sold through Frome Market in June and have been well received by the purchasers. This good honest herd can be well recommended to all interested purchasers by the auctioneers. Herd Health: BVD & Lepto vaccinated, a booster is given at turnout. IBR naturally free. Never had any cases of Tb in the herd. No recorded cases of Johnes disease.
