4 NEWPA Scholarship This year NEWPA has decided to give back! We will be sponsoring a $500 scholarship for one of our lucky junior members. Scholarship applicants must be a current NEWPA member, as well as a graduating senior, or enrolled in an undergraduate program. Each applicant is asked to submit an essay ( words) explaining how ponies have impacted his/her life. All essays will be reviewed by the NEWPA board. The winner will be announced Saturday, July 1 st at the exhibitor s dinner at the NEWPA 60 th anniversary horse show. The deadline for all essays is June 20 th Essays should be submitted to Joyce Northrup via at: ssequestrians@yahoo.com Please don't forget to join us for exhibitors dinner, scholarship award and the conclusion of our raffle Saturday evening July 1st!

5 General Information 1. Every class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current WPCSA and USEF rulebook will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. 2. STABLING: PERMANENT BOX STALLS WITH DOORS ARE AVAILABLE FOR $90.00 Request all stalls on entry blank. Stall fees must accompany reservations. NO REFUNDS ON STALLS. Initial bedding is not included but may be pre-purchased for delivery to your stalls. Please order bags of shavings with your entries. 3. EVERY ANIMAL NOT SHOWING FROM A STALL will be charged a $20.00 trailer fee. 4. CAMPERS: There will be a $ fee for every camper. Spots include electric and Water. Some have sewer. 5. All Welsh ponies six years & over showing in breeding classes and all Welsh and half Welsh ponies showing in WPCSA performance classes must be measured or present a valid USEF or WPCSA measurement card. All ponies and cobs showing USEF days must show current USEF measurement cards or be measured at the show. Officials will be measuring on Friday 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Saturday from 7:00-9:00am and again on Sunday from 7:00-8:00 am non WPCSA members pay $5.00, unless measured by a USEF steward. 6. All classes will be judged on performance and soundness unless otherwise noted. Six ribbons will be awarded in all classes unless otherwise stated. All prize money will be distributed in the show ring. 7. There will be a $50.00 surcharge added to all checks returned by the bank. All entries not paid in full at the show will be charged a $ billing fee. 8. All Welsh animals must be registered in the stud books of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of America, Inc., or the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of Canada and must be entered under their full registered name, or if under one year, be eligible for registration. 9. Before numbers will be issued Exhibitors must provide the show office with a copy of negative coggins test, proof of rabies,proof of EHV-1 vaccine within 6 months, breed registration papers, applicable Measurement cards, and any applicable USEF membership cards. 10. The Northeastern Welsh Pony Association, WPCSA and the show manager take no responsibility for loss, injury or damage to animals, exhibitors, equipment and anyone connected thereto. 11.USEF Life, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced Level, Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. A nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving Competitions upon payment of a $30 Show Pass fee. Participants in the following classes are exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot and academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux and quadrille classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8) Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof, in English, of current membership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes. 12. Junior exhibitors must wear approved protective headgear (ASTM/SEI) at all times whenever mounted or in a driven vehicle while on the show grounds. Harness must be secured and properly fitted. Any rider violating this rule at any time must immediately be prohibited from further riding until such headgear is properly in place. 13. ALL DOGS MUST BE ON LEASHES OR TIED IN A STALL AT ALL TIMES. 14. ENTRIES CLOSE June 20, Post Entries accepted for an additional $5.00/class above the regular entry fee. 15. All fees will be refunded if entries are cancelled on or before June 20, There will be a $25 office charge for all scratches after June 20. No refunds on stalls. Once the show has started horses that are not shown in classes in which they are entered forfeit their entry fee except if a horse is injured or becomes ill. Proper notification by a veterinarian and a scratch sheet must be presented to the office prior to the start of the class being scratched. 16. Rings are 100 x 200 with sand. 17. Motorized Vehicle Statement In accordance with GR1301.7: Minors who do not have a valid driver's license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind, including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles, on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver's license. The parent(s), legal guardian(s), or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operaion. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordance with Chapter 6. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule. 18. Competition management may fine any individuals including trainers, owners, exhibitors, or their agents up to $100 for improper disposal of needles or other sharp disposable instruments. 19. Farrier will be on call through out show 20. Food will be available on the grounds from approximately 7:30am until 4:00 pm 21. Classes with less than 3 entries will NOT receive prize money.

6 Best In Show $5 Nomination Fee per animal Neck ribbon and Prize to be awarded. Award will be based on placings in Breed Class and 2 pre-selected (exhibitors choice) WPCSA pointed performance divisions. No equitation classes will be counted for this award along with junior handler. Pony/Horse must be registered with the WPCSA. Pony/horse MUST be nominated and divisions specified by Saturday at 7:30AM. Forms will be available in show office. Previous Winners 2016 Glynhafan Stellar Wind Perpetual Trophies Mollie Butler Memorial Award An award developed to celebrate the versatility of the Welsh Pony. This award will be presented by NEWPA to pony and youth rider/driver combination accumulating the most points in all USEF recognized divisions. This includes Hunter, Pleasure Driving, English and Western Pleasure. This award will be presented on Sunday at the conclusion of the days schedule. Ron Schwartz Memorial Award Ron Schwartz, a long time competitor at our show, was a wonderful competition and showman. But in addition he was always available to help others, especially the younger generation. When he wasn't in the ring, Ron was usually alone ringside encouraging our juniors, helping them get ready for their classes and complementing them as they came out. The NEWPA Board of Directors created this award in his memory to be given to the junior who is in the option of the Board does the most during the show to carry on that tradition of sportsmanship. The award will be announced on Saturday evening and the name of the recipient will be listed on a perpetual plaque. Junior MUST have shown in Junior Handler to be eligible.

7 BREED CLASSES Entry Fee: $40.00 per class Animals are to be shown in hand at a walk and a trot except in group classes. PurebredWelsh to be judged 85% on breed type, conformation, way of going, quality and substance and 15% on disposition and manners. Natural reaching action is desired. Half-Welsh & Part Breds to be judged 85% on conformation, way of going, quality and substance and 15% on Welsh breed type, disposition and manners. 8 Elite Welsh In-Hand Award NO ENTRY FEE Open to the Supreme Champion(s) of the Breed division, the Gelding division and the Half/Part-bred divisions. Stonecroft Farms Breeder s Challenge A trophy offered to the best homebred champion Open to Sections A, B, C, and D. There is no entry fee. To be eligible a pony must have received a breed championship at any recognized WPCSA show in any year (including NEWPA 2016). In addition, the pony must be owned by its breeder at the time of the class. However the owner is not required to show the pony. Entrants should sign up for class on the special entry form in the show office. WPCSA JUNIOR WELSH HANDLER (Article 115.6) Entry Fee $15.00 Class open to juniors handling Ponies/ Cobs/ Half-Welsh/ Part Breds mares and geldings. Judged on the ability and skill of the Junior in handling their animal as in the breed ring. The show qualities of the animal shall not be considered, although cleanliness and grooming can be considered. Exhibitors enter to the left so as not to obscure the judge s view. The ring procedure should be the same routine used when judging standard halter classes. The judge evaluates the ability of the junior to follow directions, use space wisely, and execute the requested patterns. Juniors should appear ring wise, be alert to the judging progression and be prepared for changes in the judging routine. This is not a showmanship class and a showmanship pattern should not be used. 63. WPCSA Junior Handler 12 & Under 64. WPCSA Junior Handler 13 & Over

9 2017 SPORTPONY STAR SEARCH Qualifier Classes Entry Fee: $25.00 Open to any pony, regardless of breed or registry, suitable to excel in pony sports; dressage, hunter, jumper, driving (must be 14.2 or under). PONY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REGISTERED. To be judged 75% on conformation, quality and substance and 25% on way of going, disposition, manners and suitability to become, or in the case of sires or dams, apparent ability to produce or beget sport ponies. Class 1. Foal of current year. Class 2. Yearling, Colt, filly or gelding. Class 3. Two year old colt, filly or gelding. Junior champion & reserve. (eligible are 1 st & 2 nd place of class 1, 2 and 3) Class 4. Three & over mare. Class 5. Three & over gelding. Class 6. Three & over stallion. Senior Champion & reserve. (eligible are 1 st & 2 nd place of classes 4, 5 and 6) GRAND CHAMPION (Eligible are Junior & Reserve Champions and Senior & Reserve Champions) Ribbon sponsored by Morton Stables. Class 7. Hunter suitability under saddle. Three years & over mare, stallion or gelding. Class 8. Dressage suitability under saddle. Three years & over mare, stallion or gelding SPORTPONY STARSEARCH QUALIFIER This division is open to any pony meeting the sportpony criteria. IE: hunter, jumper, driving, eventing etc. The first place in each of the 6 in hand classes at the qualifying shows are eligible to enter to qualify for the SPORTPONY STARSEARCH CHALLENGE CUP, held at the Royal Winter Fair in November Both under saddle class winners also qualify for each respective class. Ponies MUST measure 14.2 hands or under. Passport and registration are not necessary to participate. General EC rules for sporthorses will apply. Adults CAN ride a pony. Stallions may NOT be handled or ridden by children at the Royal Winter Fair, but may be at the qualifying show s discretion. If the first place pony has already qualified at a previous show in 2016 then the second place pony becomes the qualifier. Once qualified a pony may still show at any of the qualifying shows. 10 The Welsh Champion of Champions Sponsored by Bronwyn & Heather Black of Blackwood Acres Only first place winners of their breed line classes are eligible to enter a qualifier class. All ponies and cobs must be registered. Foals of current year must be eligible for registration. Exhibitors that enter this class must be committed to attending the final judging that will be held at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Toronto, Ontario in November Two and Under Youngstock A, B, C & D 902. Three and Over Mare A, B,C, & D 903. Three and Over Stallion or Gelding A, B, C & D 1. All ponies and cobs must be registered. Foals of current year must be eligible for registration. 2. Each qualifier show will hold three Qualifier Classes: Youngstock Two and Under, Mares Three and Over and Stallion/Gelding Three and Over. These classes will be held after all breed line classes. 3. In double judged shows, only one judge may judge these qualifier classes. Only three qualifiers from each show will go forward to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair: A youngstock qualifier, a mare qualifier and a stallion/gelding qualifier. 4. The Qualifier classes are only open to first place winners in their class. For example, in the Youngstock Two and Under Qualifier, first place section A youngstock, first place section B youngstock, first place section C youngstock and first place section D youngstock may enter this class. 5. The judge shall choose both a Champion and Reserve for each of the three qualifier classes. In the event that the Champion is unable to attend the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, the reserve may go instead. 6. Exhibitors that enter the qualifying class must be committed to coming to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in November Qualifiers of the Champion of Champions must enter at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The prize list will be released later this year and will be available at the official Royal Agricultural Winter Fair website: The winner of Champion of Champions at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair will be presented with the Perpetual Challenge Trophy from Blackwood Acres (to remain with the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair), an engraved Champion of Champions plaque, and a special Welsh Champion of Champions ribbon and cooler. All remaining qualifiers will receive an engraved plaque. There is an additional presentation for Champion of Champions that will be held during the evening performance of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. This is a formal event and exhibitors should bring formal attire with them.

Each section will be individually judged and placed. Entries must enter at least 3 of the 4 sections. An overall High Score champion and reserve champion will be awarded. judged on performance, manners, and suitability. No more than two exhibitors may ride and drive each pony. All exhibitors 14 and under must be accompanied in the cart by an adult. Each entry allowed two attendants. $50, $30, $25, $20, $15, $10 a. Pleasure Driving To be shown hitched to a 2 or 4 wheel cart at a walk & trot both ways of the ring. Removal of the bridle while the pony is hitched to the cart will result in instant elimination. b. Western Pleasure Then unhitched, saddled, and shown at a walk, jog, and lope both ways of the ring. c. English Pleasure Then unsaddled, re-saddled, and shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. d. To be judged on performance and soundness, suitability and manners to count. Horses to change order part way through the course. Then all exhibitors will return to the ring for a pair hunter under saddle section. To be shown at a walk, trot & canter both ways of the ring. $40, $30, $20, $ NEWPA HUNTER CLASSIC (2 & 2 6) Entry Fee: $30.00 Open to all Horses, Ponies and Riders. To be run in a two round format with a minimum on 8 fences per round with numerical scoring. Fence height must be designated by start of class. Proper attire requested. WPCSA TRAIL (Article 115.3) Entry Fee: $20.00 Open to all ponies/cobs/part-bred/half-welsh. Junior and adult (separate divisions are to be offered for juniors and adults). English or Western equipment. To be shown over and through obstacles at a walk, optional trot or jog and optional canter or lope. To be judged 100% on performance. Anyone Schooling over the course will be disqualified. The course will be available to walk for a short time immediately preceding the start of these classes WPCSA Adult Trail 193. WPCSA Junior Trail Non WPCSA pointed Trail 194. In Hand Trail-(Pony and exhibitor of any age to lead pony through trail course) 195. OPEN Walk-Trot Trail Open to all age riders. To be shown over and through obstacles at a walk, optional trot or jog. To be judged 100% on performance. Pattern will not include a side pass Open Trail- Will be run BEFORE the other trail classes. Can be done either in hand or under saddle.

12 WPCSA RIDDEN WELSH CLASSICS 66. WPCSA RIDDEN COB WELSH CLASSIC SEC. C & D (Article 115.7) Entry Fee: $25.00 This class is for registered Welsh Cobs and Welsh Ponies of Cob Type 4 years of age and over. To be judged 50% on conformation and 50% on performance. Entries shall enter the arena in a clockwise direction. To be shown on both reins as a group at the walk, trot, and canter with animation. The required individual performance must show all four gaits (the gallop need only be shown in one direction). Each animal will then be stripped and judged for conformation judging, showing at the walk and trot, in hand, by the rider. Once an entry has been judged for conformation it may be retacked. Class is an English class only. No Western, Saddle Seat or Side Saddle tack or attire. Qualified UK or American Judge to officiate. 67. WPCSA RIDDEN WELSH CLASSIC SEC. A&B (Article 115.7) Entry Fee: $25.00 This class is for registered Welsh Ponies, Section A & B, 4 year of age and over. To be judged 50% on conformation and 50% on performance. Entries shall enter the arena in a clockwise direction. To be shown on both reins as a group at the walk, trot, and canter with animation. The required individual performance must show all four gaits (the gallop need only be shown in one direction). WPCSA RIDDEN WELSH CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS (Article 115.7) To be judged 50% on conformation and 50% on ridden performance. Open to first and second place winners from the Ridden Welsh A/B Classic and the Ridden Welsh C/D Classic. There is no entry fee for this class. Places will be awarded for the Best Ridden and the Reserve Best Ridden. Any animal in this class is eligible to be named the Best Ridden. Entries shall enter the arena in a clockwise direction. The Judge shall request all four gaits (walk, trot, canter, gallop) in at least one direction, but animals need not show in both directions. The judge shall consider the size of the ponies/cobs, ages of riders, safety of arena when determining whether to have the animals perform as a group or individually. Individual pattern is optional at the judge s discretion. Entries shall not be stripped as conformation score from the qualifying class shall be carried forward. 68. OPEN RIDDEN CLASSIC Entry Fee: $25.00 These classes are open to any horses/ponies, 4 years of age and over, not eligible for class 489 and 490. To be judged 50% on conformation and 50% on performance. Entries shall enter the arena in a clockwise direction. To be shown on both reins as a group at the walk, trot, and canter with animation. The required individual performance must show all four gaits (the gallop need only be shown in one direction).
