3 BCIN Championships BCIN REGIONAL SHOW JUMPING & DRESSAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS Friday, Saturday, Sunday, July 12 th -14th, 2013 Sun Meadows Equestrian Centre 7373 Barnhartvale Road, Kamloops, BC Dear Competitors, Parents and Coaches, Welcome to the 2013 BCIN Regional Championships! We would like to invite all BCIN Pony Club members of good standing to the 2013 Regional Championships, which are being held once again at beautiful Sun Meadows Equestrian Centre in Kamloops! There is ample camping area on the grounds, (however, no hook- ups), covered stalls and 3 spacious arenas for the weekend riding activities. It will be a weekend of fun with friends from your own Pony Club and other Pony Clubbers from around the Region. The success of this show depends on the support of members throughout the BCIN Region by your enthusiastic participation. We express our appreciation for the continued support of local branches, BCIN Regional Pony Club and the National Canadian Pony Club. We look very forward to seeing you at Sun Meadows in July! 4 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FRIDAY, JULY 12th : REGISTRATION & WARM-UP JUMPING ROUNDS * 12:00 noon Show Office opens for registration. A participant wanting to ride prior to 12:00 (or prior to having a competition number), a drop- in fee of $15 to Sun Meadows will be required. * 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Warm- up rounds on a jump course will be held in Arena #1 at $5 per round. Tickets must be purchased at the Show Office and given to the gatekeeper. Arena #2 open for general warm- up. Arena #1 will be closed at 7pm for Saturday jump course set-up; other arenas closed at 8:00pm. SATURDAY, JULY 13th : SHOW JUMPING * 8:00 am Jumping classes begin in Arena #1. Arena #2 open for warm- up. * Dressage arena setup following completion of jumping classes. All participants and parents needed. * Awards presentation for Show Jumping * 7:00pm Survivor Contest SUNDAY, JULY 14th: DRESSAGE * 8:00am Dressage tests begin in both outdoor arenas #1 and #2. (See posted schedule for riding times. Dressage warm- up in the indoor arena. * Awards and Prizes Ceremony following all Dressage classes. * Clean stalls and campsites. Have stalls checked by Stall Coordinator before leaving the Sun Meadows grounds to reclaim your Stall Deposit cheque.

6 BCIN Championships REGISTRATION INFORMATION 1) ENTRIES: All entries please use this official entry form and must be received by JUNE 28th, 2013, completed in full, with TOTAL PAYMENT included. Cheques must be dated ON OR BEFORE JUNE 28th, ) Only BCIN members in good standing may enter Championships. DC s or Branch Representatives must certify that their riders qualify and are capable of competing in the classes entered by SIGNING THE ENTRY FORMS. 3) The Championships Committee reserves the right to limit the amount of entries and/or refuse any entry; to split, cancel, combine and/or adjust classes or awards; to govern all conditions of the show; and to make decisions upon any matters not covered by current rules. 4) POST ENTRIES: There will be a $40 late fee for Post Entries, and accepted based on availability in classes. Please inquire to the Show Secretary. (Contact info p.1) 5) REFUNDS will be granted prior to the closing of entries on June 28th (less $25.00 Administration fee). After June 28th, refunds will only be granted with a signed Veterinarian s or Doctor s certificate presented to the Show Secretary with 48 hours after the conclusion of the show. 6) APPEALS must be in writing, signed and be filed within 2 hours of the holding of the class concerned and addressed to the Show Secretary. An appeal must be accompanied by a deposit of $50.00 in cash or certified cheque. The cheque will be returned only if the appeal is granted. 7) STABLING: Covered stalls are available upon request. Please stipulate if desiring to stable beside someone else. (See Entry Form- - Stabling p.13) Stalls will be assigned; a stall assignment chart will be posted along with names & numbers on each stall. Changing a stall assignment without permission could result in elimination. For changes, contact the Stall Coordinator via the Show Office. Stabling fee is based on days used, or any part of a day, not per night. (ie. $75 for Fri- Sun.) A STALL CLEANING DEPOSIT of $40.00 (separate cheque payable to Sun Meadows Equestrian Centre) is required for each stall. No stall will be reserved without the cleaning deposit. Deposit cheques will be returned or destroyed when stalls have been cleaned completely and checked by the Stall Coordinator. 8) T-SHIRTS: The cost of t- shirts are included in the Competitor fee. Please indicate size on the Entry Form (p. 13). 9) There will be a First Aid attendant onsite; a Vet and a Farrier on call. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN HAY, WHEELBARROW, MANURE FORK and BUCKETS! SHAVINGS WILL BE AVAILABLE.

7 BCIN Championships GENERAL RULES 1) TACK & TURNOUT CHECK by the STEWARD is mandatory BEFORE each jumping class and dressage test. Failure to do so may result in elimination. It is up to the rider to locate the Steward. Once checked, if they must leave, they will have to present themselves to the Steward again. It is the responsibility of the rider to find the Steward. 2) TURNOUT in all divisions will include: Jodhpurs, collared shirt and CPC pin on the left. (Jackets are recommended, but not mandatory.) A CERTIFIED HELMET, (approved,astm or BSI type by EC rules), HEELED BOOTS, MEDICAL ARMBAND, & COMPETITION NUMBER MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHILE MOUNTED. Participants not meeting these requirements may be dismissed. 3) Show Jumping and Dressage restrictions are found on pages 7 & 9 of this document; further restrictions concerning tack are found in the current Canadian Pony Club Jumping and Dressage Rules. 4) No person may enter the judging area or hold conversation with the judge without permission of the Steward. 5) All classes are open to ponies and horses 5 years of age or older. Stallions are not permitted. 6) All horses or ponies on the competition grounds must be the property of the riding member or leased or borrowed by the member and have been regularly ridden at Pony Club events or lessons by the participating member. Once at the show grounds, horses are to be ridden ONLY by the competitor owning or using the horse for the competition. Under very special circumstances, a problem horse may be ridden by another competitor to settle that horse, but only after contacting the Ground Jury who will then consult with the Championships Committee. 7) Dogs: For the safety of all horses and riders, all dogs must be kept on leashes and under control at all times. You are encouraged to leave dogs at home.

8 BCIN Championships SHOW JUMPING RULES 1) STOCK PINS ARE NOT PERMITTED. 2) MATCH THE CLOCK: One round. Competitors with equal faults are placed according to their proximity to, but not exceeding the optimum time determined by the course designer. 3) MEDAL CLASS: One round, judged as a "Hunter Round" (60% over fences and 40% on the flat ride.) Competitors must ride at the height level where they normally compete, not their PC testing level. 4) At the higher divisions, there must be a minimum of 6 entries in that class for a rider to bring two or more of their own horses into it. 5) Section O Open classes are for participants NOT riding for Championship points in that division, or they can be used as warm- ups for Championship classes. "O" participants ride first in each class. No prizes are given. Section C Championship classes are for those participants riding for Championship points. Competitors must ride all three classes in any one division to qualify for Championship placings. 6) A participant may only ride two consecutive divisions. Only one division will count for Championship points. SHOW JUMPING SCORING INDIVIDUAL SCORING: (Entry Division and above) 1st - 6th place: 1 st 2 nd 3 rd 4 th 5 th 6 th 7 points 5 points 4 points 3 points 2 points 1 point *NOTE: In case of a tie for the Championship or Reserve Champion, exhibitors may elect a jump- off or coin toss to break the tie. Scoring will be by Equine Canada Table A. (See website: EC "Rules") TEAM SCORING: (Entry Division and up) Awarded 1 st - 3 rd place. Teams can be composed of 3 or 4 members. The best 3 placings in the individual classes will be counted toward team scores, with all 4 members receiving the team award. There will not be separate classes for the team competition. Each team must have members from 3 different Show Jumping divisions.

DRESSAGE RULES 2) Half chaps may be worn with paddock boots, if they have zippers or Velcro running the full length of the half chap. 3) Whips are NOT permitted. 4) BITS: Only those listed in the current EC and CPC rules are allowed. (See your DC.) 5) BOTH dressage tests in a division must be ridden to enter for Championship points. Other tests in a consecutive division may be ridden as warm- up, not for points. A participant may enter a maximum of two consecutive divisions. 6) All tests in all divisions may be called. Each participant must arrange their own caller and bring their own test copy. 7) All divisions offering EC (Equine Canada) tests are covered by the Rules and Specifications of the EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the current EC rulebook. All divisions offering Pony Club tests are covered by the Canadian Pony Club National Dressage Rules. Direct questions to your DC or see the websites (p. 1). DRESSAGE SCORING INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPs: Entry Division and up Awarded 1st to 6th place In the event of a tie, the competitor achieving the highest mark in the "General Impression or Collective Marks" is the winner. (See reverse side of the Dressage test). TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS: Entry level and up Awarded 1 st - 3 rd place. Team members can be comprised of 3 or 4 members. The three best scores will count. Each team must have members from a minimum of 2 different dressage divisions. Points will be awarded for each team member based on both dressage scores from their Championship division.

11 BCIN Championships DRESSAGE CLASSES Section O Open classes are open to competitors NOT riding for Championship points in that division and will be first in each class. (Open rides are not scored.) Section C Championship classes are open to competitors riding for Championship points in that division. Riders must ride in both classes of the division to qualify for a championship placing for individual and team awards. DRESSAGE TESTS ARE AVAILABLE AT: (downloads). They also have a link to the EC Tests. ( Entry to Pre-training Levels are Canadian Pony Club Tests) (Training division and up are Equine Canada Tests, 2011) Please note: Copies of the tests will NOT be available at the Show. 14 BCIN Championships BCIN REGION & THOMPSON VALLEY PONY CLUB AGREEMENT FOR RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY I request permission to participate in horseback riding and other activities at the BCIN Regional Pony Club Show Jumping and Dressage Championships at Sun Meadows Equestrian Centre, Kamloops, BC, for the dates of July 12th through 14th, I fully understand that horseback riding, grooming, tacking up and, in general, working with horses may put me at risk of serious injuries. I wish to participate in these activities knowing they may be dangerous. I accept and assume all risk of injury (including death) to me or my property. In exchange for being permitted to participate in these activities, I release and agree not to make or bring any claim of any kind for myself, my heirs, parents or guardians, and legal representatives, against the BCIN Region of the Canadian Pony Club, The Thompson Valley Pony Club as show host, or their officers, directors, members, employees, or guests for any injury (including death) to me or any damage to my property, whether from anyone s negligence or not, or any other cause arising out of my participation on these horseback riding or related activities.
