1 1 P a g e Regulations for the New Zealand keuring 2019 Owner name on the registration paper An entry of a horse at the keuring can only be done by the owner of the horse. The horse to be entered must be transferred if the person entering the horse is not the registered owner. The only exception is when an authorisation form has been forwarded to the NZFHS Keuring s rubrics (classes) A. Keuring for admittance in the studbook. 3 Year old or older mares are eligible, that are registered in the foal book. Minimum height must be 1.54 metre. If there is sufficient quality in exterior and movement mares can be declared ster. Minimum height is 1.56 m. B. Keuring for admittance in the gelding book. The 3 year old or older gelding must be registered in the foal book. They have to be a minimum of 1.56 metre. If there is sufficient quality in exterior and movement mares can be declared ster. Minimum height is 1.58 m C. Keuring for the ster predicate (increased grade). Eligible are mares and geldings that are already registered in the studbook and have a height of 1.56 for mares and 1.58 for geldings. D. Premie keuring for one year old fillies and Colts E. Premie keuring for two year old mares and geldings F. Premie keuring for 4 year and older ster mares G. Premie keuring for ster geldings H. Premie keuring for kroon mares I. Premie keuring for model mares J. Premie keuring of colts and fillies K. Keuring of 3 year and older stallions for the ster predicate. Minimum height to be 1.58 m. L. Keuring of mares for the kroon predicate. The provisional kroon predicate requires a minimum height of 1.58 m. To obtain the permanent kroon predicate the mare has to do the IBOP test with a result of 77 points or above. An average score of 7 has to be obtained for walk and trot, and the minimum score for either must be a 6. Obtaining the sports predicate will be an alternative for the IBOP test. M. Keuring of mares for the model predicate. Ster or Kroon Mares can be entered for provisional model at 7 years of age and they have to have raised at least one foal. The minimum height is 1.60 m. To obtain the permanent Model predicate the mare has to do the IBOP test with a result of 77 points or above. An average score of 7 has to be obtained for walk and trot, and the minimum score for either must be a 6. Obtaining the sports predicate will be an alternative for the IBOP test. Observation Rubrics 1 year or 2 year old colts may be presented for observation and feedback. Foalbook stallions with a breeding permit must be presented for the purpose of renewing the permit Keuring of foals A foal may be presented from 6 weeks of age and onwards and preferably be with the dam. A premie is recorded on the registration paper. No premie or not being judged will not be recorded. Foals must be microchipped when presented at the keuring. Keuring of foals is not compulsory, microchipping is.

2 2 P a g e Keurings conditions A foal and a horse can only be presented for keuring once per calendar year. If the foal or horse is lame, the entry can be scratched and the horse be presented at a later keuring. If a horse enters the ring it will be judged and the result is valid. Shoeing Horses 2 years and older may be presented with shoes that are not exceeding a thickness of 8 mm and maximum width of 25 mm. No other features are allowed to be added to the shoes (eg. soles, studs etc). Entries Entries must be done using the Keuring entry form that is being sent to all owners at the beginning of December. A deposit is required for each horse entry. Each member will need to sign the entry form and agree to the conditions of entry to the keuring. Entries must be submitted by the due date. No late entries are excepted. Liability All owners must have signed an waiver form when they applied for (renewal) of membership. If not, the form must be signed and mailed with the entry form. Numbers Every horse entered must wear a number on the bridle, which must be obtained from the keuring organiser. They must be returned after use. Registration Papers They must be presented to the local keuring organiser prior to the start of the keuring. If no paper is available because of the age of the foal, a microchip form signed by a veterinarian must be presented. Withdrawal A refund will be possible if the hors is withdrawn before 3 weeks of the keuring. After that date only when a veterinary certificate can be presented within 5 working days after the keuring, a refund is possible. Linear score All horses that are presented for admission in the adult studbook and all foalbook stallions presented are scored using the linear scoring system. The form uses 25 characteristics and 5 keuring criteria. Each owner will be sent the score after the keuring. This score can be used as an aid to select a stallion for breeding purposes. For upgrading, the 5 criteria are used. Markings 1. Only horses that are completely black are accepted. Only a few white markings are acceptable. Markings on the head maximum diameter of 3.2 cm on the forehead above the eye-line. Some white hairs above the eyes are acceptable. White spots in the sole of the feet 2. Not acceptable are: Markings below the line of the eyes Markings larger than 3.2 cm Markings on the body Markings on the legs, including the wall of the foot. 3. Horses with not acceptable markings are not entered in the adult studbook and don t receive a premie. 4. Covering white markings will not be tolerated. 5. Markings will be recorded on the registration paper. If markings are discovered during the keuring, earlier results may be declared invalid. 6. Markings caused by external factors need to be supported by veterinary evidence. This will not influence the keuring result. Obtaining the Ster predicate on the basis of an IBOP test The jury can request an IBOP test for geldings, mares and stallions of 4 year of age, which on the basis of their movement would not be eligible for the ster predicate. If the horse obtains an average score of 6.7 for the basic gaits a ster predicate can be awarded. The minimum score for one gait must be 5 or higher. No further judging is required. This applies only to horses that based on their exterior are ster level, but movement in hand is not satisfactory.

3 3 P a g e Unacceptable means All substances that are listed by the FEI as illegal will lead to exclusion from the keuring. Presentation In the ring, only the handler and the chaser are allowed to be present. For both these persons it is expected that they dress in white clothing and white (sport) shoes. Horses need to be presented as natural as possible. Excessive use of a whip might lead to ending of the judging. Black colour and hair are part of the racial type. No dying or adding of hairs is allowed. Cutting the hairs in the mane and the top of the tail is not acceptable. Only hairs in the bridle path can be cut to approx. 2 cm width. It is undesirable to shave or shorten the whiskers that a horse uses for touch. These hairs can be found around the eyes, nose and mouth. A horse uses these to identify foods and its environment. It prevents a horse bumping its head. It is not permissible to shave the hairs inside the ears on the inside completely, because they protect the external hearing canal against rain, dust, insects and parasites. It is not a problem to trim the externally excessive hairs. This can be done easily by folding the ear lengthwise and taking a shaver along the edge to trim the hairs that are sticking out. The beard of a horse may be shaved (not burnt off). Appeals An appeal can be lodged if there is a disagreement about the result of the judging. This could lead to another entry in a next keuring or a re-measurement. In this case the previous result will be deleted. The result of the second keuring is binding. A re-measurement can be requested up to 15 minutes after the first measurement is taken and will be taken by another person with the same measuring stick. Liability The NZFHS/KFPS is not liable for any accidents and damage to horses, persons and materials. Competitors and visitors are presenting at their own risk. Owners are bound by the regulations and constitution of the NZFHS and KFPS. By participating and entering horses in the keuring, participants automatically agree to adhere to the judges directions and results as well as interpretation of the rules and regulations by judges, organisers, NZFHS and KFPS boards. Exclusions The NZFHS/KFPS can exclude a horse from entering if the conditions as set out in the rules are not adhered to. The KFPS can declare results invalid if afterwards it appears that the conditions of the rules and regulations have not been met. Horses need to be treated in a responsible and respectful manner before and during the keuring. Any breaches of this will be reported and horses will be excluded. 4 4 P a g e Steps for the keuring 1. Prepare yourself and your horse for the keuring. Start conditioning and practise presenting your horse approx. 8 weeks before the keuring. 2. Identify a runner and chaser (and make sure they are fit!). Make contact with other owners that enter horses at that location to identify opportunities to share. 3. Make sure the ownership on the registration papers is correct and that you are a member of the NZFHS/KFPS for Send your entry forms before the due date to the NZFHS secretary together with the entry deposit. 5. On the day of the keuring, hand your registration paper to the local organiser who will then hand you a number to be placed on the halter or bridle. In case the registration paper has not been received yet (mostly applies to foals), ensure you have a copy of the chipping certificate 6. Horses that are presented for admission in the studbook, need to be measured before entering the ring (usually at the start of the keuring) 7. Enter the ring at the request of the local organiser and place yourself in front of the judges. Follow their instructions. 8. The results of the keuring will be processed by the KFPS and papers and linear scoring forms will be sent to the NZFHS who will then forward this to the owner together with an invoice for the fees minus deposits paid. The total fees are dependent on a number of factors, including the results of the judging, total NZFHS costs and sponsorships and total number of horses entered. 9. Ensure that all costs to the organisers of the keuring (ie NZFHS and have been paid on request. Invoices will follow when new registration papers have been issued to reflect status of the horse.

5 5 P a g e EQUINE CARE CODE OF CONDUCT Should the soundness, health or behaviour of a participating horse be questioned, the Organisers, after consultation with the person responsible for the horse and an official veterinarian if necessary, shall make the decision as to whether the horse may continue to participate. The Organisers decision shall be final. 1. The welfare of the horse is paramount and shall be considered above the demands of breeders, trainers, riders, drivers, owners, organisers, sponsors and officials. 2. The highest standards of nutrition, health, sanitation and safety of the horse shall be encouraged and maintained at all times during the 2019 keuring. 3. Riding, driving, handling and training methods shall not include any technique which might be considered abusive to the horse. 4. Adequate provision must be made for maintaining a healthful and safe environment for the transport and stabling of horses to and from the 2019 keuring. 5. If a horse poses a threat to any attendees, organisers or other participants of the event, the keuring organiser will have the right to remove the horse from the area.
