6 JUDGING OF THE CLASSES: High Flyers is a developmental show for young horses and ponies. Classes will be judged with constructive commentary from the Judges. Four year olds the classes are aimed at the young horses and ponies competing with limited experience. The judge will not ride. Riders will be asked to perform a freestyle show, not exceeding 1½ minutes; which emphasizes the correct training of a show animal. Horses/ponies will not be required to have their saddles removed for the conformation phase and the rider will not be required to dismount. Five & Six year olds in these classes the judge will ask to ride each animal and conformation will be judged when the horse/ pony is presented in hand with the saddle removed. The classes will be judged on potential, type and suitability to reach the highest level of competition in the future. Working Hunter and Young Sports Horse marks will be awarded and announced during the class. Marks will be awarded for potential, type and trainability over a course of fences. Height of fences 4yrs 90cm, 5yrs 95cm, 6yrs 1.00m. Exhibitors to declare at the collecting ring. 16. FIVE & SIX YEAR OLD WORKING HUNTER stallion, mare or gelding (competing stallions must have a red, white and blue ribbon displayed in their tail) born in 2013 or 2014, not to have won a total of 200 (or equivalent values) in prize money in any affiliated Working Hunter Class, or more than 25 BE points or 200 BSJA Show-jumping, at home or equivalent abroad before 1st January in the relevant year. Height of fences: minimum height: 0.85m (2 9 ), maximum height: 1.00m (3 3 ). Exhibitors to declare at the collecting ring. 11 CONDITIONS OF ENTRY ENTRY FEES: R.I.H.S. classes (plus R.I.H.S. levy of 9.50) All other classes PRIZES: Prizes in kind will be awarded ENTRIES a) NOMINATION - an exhibitor may enter into a class without declaring the name of the horse. The exhibitor must nominate the name of the horse by the close of entries. b) Only one exhibit may be entered per rider per class. c) Nominated horse name and details must be submitted by the close of entries, by or post. Names will not be accepted via social media. d) After the close of entries substitutions will be permitted at additional cost of 5 per exhibit per class. e) Oversubscribed classes will be subject to a ballot. Piebald and Skewbald qualifying classes will not be run under the rules of any society. Novice: These classes are open to horses and ponies that have not won more than three first prizes at any show in an OPEN classification on or before 1 st January in the current year. Horses/ ponies that have competed at HOYS, RIHS, Olympia or won a Championship/ Finals class at BSHA, BSPS, BSPA, CHAPS, NCPA, NPS, P(UK), SHB(GB), TGCA, TSR or Equifest will instantly be de-noviced. It is anticipated that exhibitors will enter in the true spirit of the competition. Amateur Owner/ Rider exhibitors who for showing purposes have not engaged in a training programme for riders/horses/ponies, livery, buying/selling or dealing as a means of deriving a source of income since 1st August Exhibitors must not: a) Engage in breeding, livery, buying, selling or dealing in a commercial capacity. b) Receive remuneration for employment in the connection with horses in racing, showing, livery or riding school. c) Show a horse / pony owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm. Classes are open to Horses owned and ridden by an Amateur, (the Rider need not be the Owner of the Horse). Professional Producers are allowed into the ring to groom/strip the Horse, but must not prepare, train or ride the exhibit prior to the class commencing. Young Rider: Open to riders 14 years old and over, but not exceeding 21 years before 1 st January in the current year. 11

12 Mountain & Moorland classes: For the purpose of this schedule, all Mountain & Moorland classes are restricted to ponies registered in the pure bred Stud Books of: Connemara, Dales, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Fell, Highland, New Forest, Shetland or the Welsh Pony & Cob Society unless it is stated otherwise in the wording. Stallions must be ridden by riders of the following ages Small Breeds: Riders must be 12 years old or over on 1 st January in the current year to ride a stallion not exceeding 138cms or classified as a Small Breed M&M. Large Breeds: Riders must be 14 years old or over on 1 st January in the current year to ride a stallion exceeding 138cms or classified as a Large Breed M&M. Royal International Piebald/ Skewbald Qualifying classes: These classes are affiliated to the British Skewbald and Piebald Association and are qualifiers for the Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead Tuesday 23rd July Classes will be judged under BSPA rules. All stallions must be graded and licensed by BSPA or hold a BSPA Showing Permit (contact BSPA for Stallion showing permit information) for 2019 and have a BSPA stallion ID card and wear BSPA Stallion ID Disc. No rider under 14 may exhibit a stallion in any class. No competitor / owner / horse may compete in this class or enter the ring without current 2019 Membership of BSPA and a RIHS qualification card. Qualification: 1 st place and the next unqualified competitor standing 2 nd or 3 rd qualify from each class. No competitor may qualify from lower than 3 rd place. BSPA Office: ; bspashows@gmail.com. 13 General Show Rules - 1. All Classes are open unless otherwise stated. Entries are made at the fees stated in the Schedule. All stock exhibited for prizes shall be bona fide in the legal ownership of the exhibitor at the time of entry and the Event or for such a period as shall be set out in the Schedule under the conditions of the particular class concerned. 2. Entry fees are not refundable after the close of entries even with a Doctor/ Veterinary Certificate. Exhibitors wishing to request a refund of entry fees must apply in writing by midnight on the 1 st March Substitutions and amendments will be accepted subject to a fee. 4. The Judge s decision is final. 5. Horses and ponies must be under control at all times when on the Showground. Stallions - in the interest of safety, stallions may only be ridden/ handled by persons over the age of 14 years with the exception of Small Breeds Mountain & Moorland stallions, where the rider must have attained their 12th birthday by the 1st January in the current year. 6. Animals sent for exhibition may at any time on the instructions of the Judges, Stewards or other Officials of the Society be inspected by the Vet. The Vet may order the removal from the Showground of any animal which, in their opinion, is affected by any disease likely to prove harmful to other animals or is in any way unfit for exhibition. The Vet shall hand a certificate recording their findings to the person in charge of any rejected animal. 7. It is strongly recommended that all horses receive a full course of Equine Influenza Vaccination as recommended by the British Equine Association within the 12 months prior to exhibition at an Event. Passports must accompany animals to the Event. 8. The age of horses to be calculated from 1st January in the year of their birth. All ridden horses/ ponies must be 4 years old and over. 9. Concealing exhibits during Events: during the time an Event is open to the public no sheeting or other material may be affixed to any part of the livestock accommodation in such a way that any animal is concealed from public view. 10. All Entrants are asked to be aware of animals on the Showground and ensure that all exhibits are fit and well. If any Entrant has reason to believe that an animal is unfit, he should report this to the Secretary s Office. 11. Cancellation and/ or alteration to classes: High Flyers Show reserves the right to cancel, divide or amalgamate or otherwise change any class or to limit entries in any class or section from the entrant. The Show Director and Senior Steward are given executive powers. 12. The person who submits the entry form either by post or on line is deemed to be the owner / exhibitor of that entry. 13. The submission of all entries through the on-line system signifies acceptance of all High Flyers rules and conditions. 14. Competitor numbers must be worn / clearly displayed at all times whilst mounted. This includes working in / exercising around the showground. 15. No behaviour of an offensive, abusive or unpleasant manner to any person at High Flyers will be tolerated. Any act of discourtesy to any Judge, Steward or any Show Official on the part of the competitor groom, rider, or agent of an animal, will, at the discretion of such Official disqualify that animal from being judged, in which case entry fees, prizes and charges will be forfeited. Exhibitors are reminded of their responsibility for the actions of others within their party. 16. All belongings should be securely kept locked up. No responsibility by the High Flyers Show can be taken for theft or damage to belongings left unattended. 17. High Flyers RETAINS AT ITS ABSOLUTE DISCRETION THE RIGHT to decline or exclude or remove any person or animal from the show or future shows or return any entry fee without being required to assign reason or being liable for any compensation. 18. No person shall ill-treat animals at any time whether by misuse/ excessive use of a whip, bit or any item of saddlery or in any other way whatsoever. 19. DOGS - For reasons of safety and to prevent nuisance the Council of the Society has decided that dogs can only be permitted on the Showground whilst on a lead. Exhibitors MUST clean up after their dogs. Any person found to disregard this rule will be fined. Lost dogs will be compounded and will not be released until a payment of 20 is made. All payments will be donated to an animal charity of our choice. Dogs must be kept under control at all times whilst on the showground. 20. INSURANCE: (a) It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to insure all property and livestock on the Showground or elsewhere which is his own, or for which he is responsible. (b) The Society requires exhibitors to effect Employers Liability insurance where this is required by statute. (c) The Society also requires to effect Public Liability and Products Liability insurance with a minimum indemnity of 1,000,000 to protect their liability. 21. Judging of classes no animal or rider may leave the ring without permission of the Judge and Ring Steward. Once the class has commenced there shall be no change or rider, except in a Championship 13

14 when a rider finds that they have more than one exhibit to compete. The substitute rider must be eligible for the class and the Ring Steward informed of the change of rider. 22. Fall of horse / rider a fall or horse or rider while mounted in any class will result in disqualification and they MUST leave the ring dismounted. 23. Loose horses If an animal gets loose from its handler whilst in the Ring or during the Conformation phase of any class it will result in disqualification. 24. Closing of class no exhibits will be permitted to enter the class once the gate is closed and the horses / ponies have been asked to trot. 25. Exhibitors may not knowingly exhibit a pony that has been bred, sold, leased, produced, broken, ridden or trained by the Judge and/or his/her immediate family or his/her employer or anyone with whom he/she resides since 1st January Judges may not knowingly judge a horse/pony that has been owned, produced, exhibited, bred or ridden by them or by anyone with whom they are in a business/personal partnership with or by anyone they employ or by anyone who employs them since 1 st January All ride judges must wear a correctly secured hat to the approved current BSI standard at all times whilst mounted. Any Ride Judge who falls or is thrown whilst judging may not continue to ride the exhibits or ride judge any further exhibits until passed as fit by the medical team. If the Judge is capable of continuing his / her duties, then all exhibits in the class must give an individual show (including any exhibit previously ridden). In the event that the Judge is not capable of continuing, an appropriately qualified replacement may be appointed. 28. HATS correctly secured British Standard Skull Caps / Riding Hats that meet current BSI safety standards of: PAS 015; VG1; (BS) EN ; ASTM F a onwards; SNELL E2001; SNELL E2016; AS/NZS onwards MUST be worn by all riders. 29. Ear rings / piercings in the interest of safety, no ear rings, piercings or visible jewellery should be worn whilst competing. 30. Spurs/dress spurs must NOT be worn in any M&M-WHP, any Ridden Mountain and Moorland or BSPA pony showing class. 31. Show canes are not to exceed 75cms (30 ). Hunting crops are permissible. 32. Mobile phones must not be taken into the ring. 33. OBJECTIONS Any exhibitor at the show feeling himself aggrieved must make his protest in writing within one hour of the completion of the judging of the class and pay a deposit to the Show Secretary of Objections will not be entertained from any person or organisation not exhibiting in the same class as the animal to which the objection is raised. An Appeal Tribunal will consider objections at a time and place to be fixed by them and the person making the objection must be available to attend should it be deemed necessary. The decision of the Appeal Tribunal shall be final and if the protest is not substantiated the deposit will be forfeited 34. Stabling fees / electrical hook ups are not refundable after midnight on the 1 st March 2019, even with a Doctor / Veterinary Certificate. Exhibitors wishing to request a refund of either stabling or hook-up fees must apply in writing by midnight on the 1 st March All stables on the showground are temporary stables. 36. Horses / ponies must not be left in horse boxes / trailers overnight. 37. Wrong course - Any horse / pony taking the wrong course or jumping another fence after completing the course will be eliminated. 38. Refusal - If a pony/horse turns its quarters to a fence or has a complete turn round or crosses its tracks on approach to the next fence a refusal will be given. 39. Boots (including over-reach boots) are permissible in the Jumping Phase of any Working Hunter / Working Hunter Pony, but they must be removed before the conformation phase. At no other time can a change of saddlery be permitted. 40. Disobedience horses / ponies displaying disobedience - mounted or dismounted - during either phase will be eliminated. 41. Falls - The fall of horse and/or rider anywhere on the course will result in elimination. The Rider may not attempt another fence but must leave the arena immediately on foot. 42. Equality of marks - In the event of equality of marks, the TOTAL mark from Phase One will take precedence, followed by the Manners Mark and then the Conformation Mark. If there is still a tie, the Judge s decision is final. 43. A rider may only ride one exhibit per class, including Working Hunter and Working Hunter pony classes. This rule does not apply to Mountain & Moorland Working Hunter pony classes. 14
