1 Winter Regionals FAQ First of all, well done for getting here! We d like to extend a BIG thank you to all competitors, who spend a large period of the year going out and qualifying to take part in these regional events, and undoubtedly without you we would have no competition to run! We d like you to enjoy your time here over the regional period: so here are a few of the most commonly asked questions answered for you! Please do take the time to have a quick read through; I ve tried to cover most subjects and you might just find the answer you are looking for. If you do have any other queries please equine@bishopburton.ac.uk. General Questions. Where can I park? Horse boxes and trailers can park in the Equine car park. If you follow the signs to the left from the security box to equine and you ll be able to see where you can park. Cars MUST park in the main car park to allow space for horse boxes and trailers. Please note we have limited space in the Equine car park during these busy competitions, we really appreciate considerate parking during these times. Are dogs allowed onsite? Yes, we re all dog lovers and owners around here. Please make sure that your dog is on its lead at all times. Please be responsible owners and pick up after your dog! Are there shower facilities? Yes, showers are located in the Bishop Burton Arena and can be accessed from the ground floor doors on Main Yard. Opening hours are as follows; Friday 15 th February pm, Saturday 16 th February- 6.30am- 8.30pm, Sunday 17 th February- 6.30am 8.30pm, Monday 18 th February- 6.30am- 8pm and Tuesday 19 th February am- 7pm. Where can I eat? For the Duration of the competition our Arena Gallery bar will be open. Serving Hot and Cold Drinks & Snacks including Breakfast Baps, Cold Sandwiches, Burgers, Chips and Daily Specials. Please check the notice board on arrival for opening times. For competitors staying overnight we also have a local pub; The Altisadora within walking distance from the college. Located on the A1079. Booking advised. Beverley is a 10 minute drive away with a variety of eateries too.

2 Stabling Questions Can I have a permanent stable? During our Winter Regionals 2019 all stabling will be in permanent stabling. Where will I find out which stable is mine? We ll put up Stable allocations in the Equine Reception and on the end of stable blocks. Please check in first at the reception and we can guide you to where you need to be. Can I purchase shavings and haylage? Yes, we keep both onsite at 8.50 a bale. If you wish to buy any please let the Equine reception know and we will get them delivered to your stable when convenient. Will there already be bedding in my stable? We cannot guarantee this. Some stables have left over clean banks and others are empty. We ask all competitors to skip/muck out stables and sweep clean shavings to the back. Generally all show stables are on shavings. Most stables also have automatic drinkers but do fetch water buckets-just in case. Will I need tools/brushes? Yes! We do not have surplus supplies of mucking out tools, brushes and wheelbarrows so it s down to yourselves to fetch your own. Electricity Hook Up. We do have electricity hook up in the hard standing car park situated on the fence lines. These are available to pre-book and depending on what is left available over the event. Please DO NOT USE a dual adapter. This risks tripping/blowing out all the hook ups and in previous cases is not a quick fix and requires an electrician. If pre-booked please come to the office and pick up a hook up voucher. All hook ups are padlocked until used. N.B Friday arrivals- There will be an arena available to exercise your horse on the Friday evening. Please check at reception on arrival. This will be without a steward.

3 Competition Questions. Will there be arena walks? Yes, we will have arena walks every morning before classes start. Due to the amount of competitors we have this year they will ONLY run in the morning. Please check at reception on arena walk times each day. Approx am TBC. Which Arena is my test in? On Saturday and Sunday we will be running 2 competition arenas. Saturday 16 th February- Indoor School 2 Novice 37A Gold, Novice 37A Silver. - Bishop Burton Arena- Prelim P17A Silver, FSM Novice Gold. Sunday 17 th February- Indoor School 2 Elementary 59 Gold, Elementary 59 Silver. - Bishop Burton Arena FSM Novice Silver, FSM Elementary Gold, FSM Elementary Silver. Monday 18 th and Tuesday 19 th - All tests will be in the Bishop Burton Arena. Can I take my sheet after I ve ridden? Unfortunately no, all scores on the live board are updated through the class but are classed as provisional until the end of the class. All sheets must be kept until the end of the class in case of any discrepancies and for the head judge to sign off. We appreciate that some of you can t wait about until the end of classes. So you can leave an envelope with an address and stamps at the office. Or pay for an envelope and stamp at the office. Rosettes 1 st -10 th and prize money 1 st -5 th. Please be aware of some rule amendments by BD on the 25 th October 2018! Can my horse wear boots and bandages? They are allowed while warming-up, but not during a test. If the horse s boots/bandages are left on during its test the combination will be eliminated. Can my trainer warm up my horse? Yes, except in winter, summer, music regionals and championships when no-one other than the competitor may school the horse from the saddle for the duration of the show, Except for Grade I and II Para dressage riders.

4 Can I use a Whip in my test? Whips must be dropped BEFORE entering the arena. You must not use them even going around the outside of the boards. For if you go into the competition arena with your whip you will be eliminated. Whips are allowed in the warm up arena. Can I have someone call out my test for me? Commanders may be used in all classes except Area Festivals, Premier Leagues, Regional and National Championship classes. Can my horse wear a rug to compete? Only rugs designed for riding can be worn whilst warming up Will I be tack checked? A steward may be appointed to check saddlery and equipment. Competitors are responsible for complying with the rules. A tack check will take place after the horse has competed and if any tack or equipment is used that is not permitted, the horse will be eliminated from the class. Prior to warm up for competition, competitors may have a physical noseband check. This will be performed by a BD approved steward. If nosebands are considered too tight the steward will ensure they are loosened. This check is performed by inserting one finger into the side of the noseband in front of the cheek piece. If the finger(s) cannot be inserted or it is very tight, this will be deemed to be unsatisfactory. A full tack and horse welfare inspection will be conducted on conclusion of the test. If nosebands are found to be too tight or equipment which is not permitted has been used, the combination will be eliminated. My horse is a stallion, what identification should I put on him? Stallions are to be identified by the rider wearing a yellow cross band or stallion disc on the bridle at all times. Non-compliance will result in a two mark deduction. Throughout competition.. Please do not rely on the steward to inform/remind you of rules, they are there to implement them! It is your own responsibility to read the rules. They are therefore advised that unless they speak to every last person they are in danger of missing someone so are told not to advise to promote fair competition.

5 At no time during competition will abuse of staff or officials be tolerated. Entry Questions. I ve withdrawn/going to withdraw can I get a refund. As in all competitions we run under the British dressage rules- 53. Refund of entry fees a) No refund will be made to those withdrawing after the close of entries. b) Fifty percent of total entry fees will be returned to those whose withdrawal is received before the close of entries, and confirmed in writing within seven days. c) Competitors on waiting lists who choose to withdraw will have 50% of their total entry fees refunded. d) A full refund will be made for horses which upgrade on or before the close of entries, but whose entries are not transferred to classes of a higher grade. e) A full refund will be made for horses put on a waiting list but not eventually offered a place. Please Note refunds aren t instant! Please bear with us during busy competition periods where refunds are concerned. We will need written conformation to process. Equine Influenza. Given the current outbreak throughout the UK, we d like to remind all competitors on British Dressage s handbook Equine Influenza Vaccination rule. Page 58. Section To protect the health of the other competing horses and the biosecurity of the venue, a valid passport must accompany the horse to all competitions and be produced on request. Failure to comply is a disciplinary offence and will debar the horse from competing at the event for which it has been entered. A horse will not be permitted to compete unless it has a current vaccination against equine influenza which complies with the following conditions: An initial course of two injections for primary vaccination, not less than 21 days and not more than 92 days apart, are required before being eligible to compete A first booster injection must be given between 150 and 215 days after the second injection of primary vaccination Subsequent booster injections must be given at intervals of not more than one calendar year, commencing after the first booster injection

6 The full course or booster must have been administered at least seven days before the competition. The vaccination record(s) in the horse s passport, must be completed, signed and stamped line by line, by an appropriate veterinary surgeon (who is neither the owner nor the rider of the horse). For those competing under FEI rules, please refer to FEI rules. The responsibility to comply with this rule lies with the competitor who should consult with their veterinarian. The current situation regarding Equine Flu is being continuously monitored. We will update you any changes, we re currently just taking one day at a time and running under BEF guidelines. Following these current guidelines please make sure you have your horse s passport with you and on arrival show it to the office to be checked. Regardless of the current outbreak we have a strict bio-security procedure policy within the college which we continue to promote within the day to day running of our equine centre.
