2 Dear Friends, We would like to invite you to our annual horse sale which will take place Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 5:00 p.m., the night before our 43rd Annual Bull & Female Sale. We are excited to be offering 14 weanling colts and fillies, one yearling filly, three 2 year-olds, and two 3 year-olds. We will have a demonstration of our available riding horses beginning at 4 p.m. before the sale. It has always been a priority of ours to raise the kind of horse that cowboys want. Cow sense, heart, stamina, athletic ability and gentle disposition are a must. We needed them back when as much as we do now; a horse that can handle all aspects of ranching. We continue a steadfast approach and commitment to raising solid ranch horses. The increased popularity of ranch horse competitions has provided an outlet to showcase the horse program we ve had for decades, whether it be AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge, AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse, Ranch Horse Association of America, National Reined Cow Horse Association or Stock Horse of Texas. It has been a joy to watch our grandkids accomplish so much in these arenas. The last 12 months we have witnessed over $80,000 won in these arenas by the sixth generation of R.A. Brown Ranch horsemen including AQHA World Championships in Versatility Ranch Horse (by our four year-old stallion, TAKE A PICK) and in the Ranching Heritage Challenge Inaugural Finals. Add to this a finalist appearance in the Non-Pro Snaffle Bit Futurity and you can understand our excitement. We are extremely proud to be one of AQHA Legacy Award Winning Ranches, a Best Remuda Award Winning Ranch and now a Ranching Heritage Breeder. We have limited phone access on sale day, but we will try our best to accommodate your needs. The horse will become the responsibility of the buyer at the end of the sale. Horse transportation is the responsibility of the buyer. We will feed and care for the horses for up to four days after the sale at no charge. 3 Reference Sires CD COLONEL CUMMINS A 1998 gray stallion by Vagabond Colonel and out of Customized HotRod, Cummins was purchased from our friends, Doug and Chris Hardcastle, in the spring of He has a wonderful disposition with lots of personality; he has the confirmation, bone and structure, and proven pedigree. Cummins has his Register Merit in halter, and, in 2005, was in the Top 10 in the nation as an Aged Halter Stallion. 8 years old 18 years old CGB COLONEL JAZZ CGB Colonel Jazz is by Colonels Leo San and out of Peppy Sal Freckles, a double bred Colonel Freckles stud whose disposition is as impressive as his looks. And this black stud s performance in the roping pen was even better. While being hauled extensively for many years in the youth rodeo and roping ranks, Jazz shined in both tie down roping and team roping, including a Performance Register of Merit and qualifying for the World Show in Jr Tie-Down Roping. Once retired from the arena, he began making his mark as a stallion, throwing eye-catching foals with lots of bone year after year. Because of his offsprings disposition and build, his foals have been the top sellers in our annual sale the last few years. And those we kept to ride have not disappointed us. For the 2016 & 2017 breeding season, Jazz not only bred several R.A. Brown Ranch mares, but also Donnell Brown with CGB Colonel Jazz a dozen of Craig Haythorn s top mares (Haythorn Land & Cattle, Arthur, NE.)

4 1994 SEVEN S KEOTA Hesa Eddie Hancock by Eddie Eighty and out of a Two Rocks Lad mare is one of the finest studs we have raised. He adds a significant amount of foundation blood back into our mares, tracing back three times to Joe Hancock, Eddie and Blue Rock and twice to Hollywood Gold. This 1992 gray stallion is a nice headed horse with a long, pretty neck and lots of bone. Although he has many years on him now, he still breeds several mares a year. He has always been a soft mover with a gentleman s disposition. His influence lives long at the R.A. Brown Ranch with many of his sons and grandsons being ridden and many of his daughters and granddaughters raising foals. And most significantly, he produced Blue Eddie Hancock, who proved to be a vital stallion for many years. Seven S Keota is by Shining Spark and out of Seven S Suzanna (by Son O Leo) and not only brings the beautiful palomino color to the table, but offers us the great minds and reining ability that Shining Sparks are known for. He is a 1998 model that we were fortunate enough to trade Clark Cattle Company for a few years ago. Keota has sired a couple of money earners in NCHA but is known more for making gentle, sound, and tough ranch horses that are versatile and easy to train. We also believe he will have an impact through his daughters as producers. The most notable is CC Mary Catherine, the dam to Chris Littlefield s BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL stallion. His recent accomplishments include winning the 2017 Dixie National AQHA Horse Show High Point Cow Horse, and overall high point in the cattle classes, competing in heading, heeling and working cowhorse. In May, he added the title of 2017 RHAA Junior Champion to the resume World Champion in Versatility Ranch Horse 2016 Lanham Brown on Take A Pick Five Panel: Herda N/H, N/N for GBED, PSSM1, MH, HYPP Take A Pick is one of the most promising young stallions we ve been able to acquire. Just a 2013 born, by Sixes Pick and out of Sixes Playgun (by Playgun) going back to Peppy San Badger, we have high expectations for his first foals born in Take A Pick is a full brother to Sixes Sixgun, Crofoot Ranches performance champion. Although Take A Pick didn t start his show career until the fall of 2016, he has already built an impressive resume including: AQHA World Champion Versatility Ranch Horse (with individual event titles in Conformation, Reining, Ranch Riding, Trail and Cutting), SHOT Futurity All-Around Limited Non- Pro Champion, and most recently, wins in the AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge in both Open & Amateur Working Ranch Horse and Open & Amateur Ranch Riding. You will have to search a long time to find a ranch horse with such an incredible disposition and we re hopeful that will be passed on to his progeny. Considered one of the family for over 80 years, Mr. Buzzy still rides alongside the Brown Ranch cowboys each week making great horses. This 3 year old sorrel filly he has started is living proof. She is extremely gentle, has correct conformation, and does everything he asks of her on the ranch. He s especially proud of how she performs sorting pairs with her extra quiet disposition and good mind. Jazzy continues to show the strength of her Colonel Freckles breeding on the top and her equally proven pedigree on the bottom. Her size (14.2 / 1050) and kind disposition make her a great prospect for anyone to do anything. And as Buzzy says, She s old man gentle, good looking and extremely trainable. She stands quiet for saddling and then rides off content each time. She s just a long yearling, so it s only light riding (walk/trot) but Mini Pearl is proving to be a gem. By sale time, having learned and seen many things on the ranch, it will be perfect time for a few months off. But when you resume her training as a two year old, she will already have been to school! Much of the guess work with this filly is already figured out, so if you are hunting a smaller, extra gentle saddle horse prospect, Mini Pearl is just the ticket. 12 For over 120 years, this progressive family business has been producing some of the most superior cattle and Quarter Horses in the industry. The ranch was originally established in Throckmorton, Texas, by R.H. Brown in 1895, who sent his young son, R.A. Brown (Sr.) to an untamed West Texas to manage the ranch. R.A. Sr. remained there throughout his lifetime. Upon his death the reins were passed down to R.A. Rob Brown Jr. and his wife Peggy who steadfastly guided the ranch s course for many years. Recently, the reins were passed again and now the ranch is owned and operated by their four children, the 5th generation of the Brown family - Jody and Betsy Brown Bellah, Rob A. and Talley Brown, Todd and Marianne Brown McCartney, and Donnell and Kelli Brown. This seamless transition validates Rob and Peggy s lifelong ambition to, keep the ranch in the family, and the family in the ranch. In fact, the backbone of the workforce on the Brown Ranches is also family members of the 6th generation - while the 7th generation of Brown cowkids proudly trot along behind! The R.A. Brown Ranch has been honored with some of the most prestigious awards in the industry including: Cattle Business of the Century Award and the AQHA Best Remuda Award. In addition, Rob Brown was recognized as one of the nation s top ranchers with the Golden Spur Award. The R.A. Brown Ranch has also shaped the American Quarter Horse industry. R.A. Brown Sr. is credited as being one of founders of this legendary association and his son Rob was elected AQHA President in Fittingly, R.A. Brown Ranch An Unbroken Chain both have been inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. Keeping the leadership tradition alive is Rob A. Brown who is currently on the AQHA Board of Directors. R.A. Brown Ranch is one of only sixteen ranches in the nation that has registered a foal every year since AQHA began, 76 years ago. The ranch is considered a Ranching Heritage Breeder, which signifies the efforts to breed and raise the ranch-type horse, and epitomize the versatility of the American Quarter Horse and the AQHA. We are proud to say all foals consigned this year are nominated for the Ranching Heritage Challenge events. Traditionally, R.A. Brown horses are made available for sale two times a year, the October production sale at the ranch and in the Ft Worth Stock Show Remuda Sale in January. The cowboys who work on the ranch are all given a colt to add to their string and, by starting these horses, earn part interest and possession of the horse. Their strings are filled with solid ranch geldings that are an important tool to fulfill their daily jobs at the ranch. Recently, these same horses have been topping classes at the Ranch Horse Challenge & Versatility Ranch Horse competitions. You will see them at the NRCHA, SHOT or RHAA and they will appear at ranch rodeo competitions, 4-H horse shows and in the rodeo arena as well. Wherever they do appear, one thing is for certain, you will notice the brand they carry. Fewer and fewer ranches today are still in the same family; let alone those that have so many of the family gainfully employed or directly involved. The R.A. Brown Ranch is truly a unique operation.
