2 HoofPrint Dear Members, Welcome to the Autumn 2010 edition of HoofPrint! As we go to print with this newsletter, summer events are just getting into full swing and for those of you who compete, the first Area competitions will soon be underway! On our home calendar, we have already held a highly successful Senior Clinic at Rawlins Farm with Mark Corbett, preparing our Open and Intermediate level riders for their Area competitions. It was a busy couple of days but very valuable in terms of fine-tuning horses and team building. We have also enjoyed a great Members Only Mock Area Dressage competition at Phillippa Chamings home, with a good turnout of members running through tests at every level with feedback from their judges and warming-up by our trainer, Liz Diegutis. We will certainly repeat this type of event thanks to Frances Hatton-Brown who organised it despite being at the Senior Clinic for the two days before! The outside judges were genuinely impressed by our standards and the competent riding so well done everyone! During the last half-term holiday, Denise Smith and her team ran a lovely Vine Open Show at Park Farm, Oakley. Several other local branches had to cancel similar shows due to lack of numbers but we held on and in the end had a busy day with plenty of entries. It was particularly good to join Park Farm Centre members on their home territory and as usual we were given a warm welcome and every help from the Park Farm staff. Thank you! Also in half-term, several members successfully completed PC tests/badges and we are continuing to organise preparation for tests and test days for everyone but please let us know if you would like to join in! They are fun to do and will really develop your confidence and knowledge of riding and caring for your pony/horse. They cater for all levels and ages! East End Camp is gearing up for five days (four for minis) of instruction, fun and a few surprises! I hope you all have a lovely time! There are also plenty of rallies and activities to enjoy with your ponies over the next few months as well as Hickstead Team Show Jumping, the Southern Novice Championships and the Southern Mini Team Championships. Still looking forward, the schedule for our Vine Mini One Day Event (and Mini Mini Combined Training) on Wednesday 1 September is now available on our website at Numbers for the ODE are always limited to ensure a good day out for all with adequate parking etc so I strongly advise early entry. If you would like to help on the day or setting up the day before, please let organiser Maggie Richardson or me know. Following feedback from parents at last year s AGM and Presentation Evening, we have been posting local schedules on our website as we get them and, for those of you who compete, I hope you have found this useful. Please Sally with any schedules you find to share! Finally, I am delighted to announce that Deborah (Bo) de Groot has kindly agreed to take on the role of Treasurer following Steve Davies decision to step down. 3 HoofPrint Trips to HOYS and OLYMPIA We have been very lucky this year in that we are able to offer members the opportunity to join organised trips to both HOYS and Olympia. Park Farm HOYS & Olympia Trip 2010 As in recent years Park Farm are looking to run trips to both Horse of the Year Show (6-10 th October) and Olympia (14 th 20 th December) in These trips in previous years have been a huge success. (The Olympia trip is usually on the Saturday) A lot of organization goes into making these trips such a success so we ask that if you are interested in attending one or both of these, that you contact Claire Brassett via the office on so that we can get an initial idea of numbers in order to book tickets and a coach. This means a pretty stiff dressage test, show jumping to max height 1.25m and cross country1.15m. All very large for a little pony! However after a passable dressage he had 4 faults show jumping and clear cross country with a very few time faults boy did he gallop! He finished a very creditable 11th and considering his nearest height competitor was 15.2hh His owner Sue Anderson was so excited by his performance she wrote the poem below to celebrate! He's the Connemara raider The little freckled man They all said "Just a pony" "Couldn't do it" - but he can! Confident and cocky - And a nightmare on the flat He shows no fence can daunt him And he clears them - just like that. With G on board to guide him The bond so strong, of course - He'll wing it round those fences And prove that he's a horse "Is that just a pony?" They ask her all the time "Yes, he's only But, believe me, he can shine".
