2 History Continuous Driving is invention of Robin and Wilson Groves of Brownsville, VT. Robin and Wilson own and operate R & W HorsedrawnServices, a training and teaching facility for drivers, riders and all manner of horses. History Wilson is well known competitor and course designer. Robin gives clinics all over the US and Canada for drivers and riders of all levels of experience. Robin drove Lana Wright's Thor's Toy Truck in the 2008 World Singles Championships. Photo by Pics of You Event Description The Continuous Driving Event (CD) consists of at least three ADS competitions driven consecutively and separated by brief rest periods. Competitors may be divided in divisions by experience, age, gender, horse size, etc. Continuous Driving may be conducted in conjunction with other ADS events unless specifically restricted by individual event rules. 2

The entry must be driven by the same person in all competitions unless otherwise specified by the organizer. All rules of the road should be observed unless designated officials direct otherwise. 3

4 General Rules Spares are recommended but not required. Carrying a halter and lead rope on the vehicle is highly recommended. Outside assistance, other than as specified by the rules, will incur elimination. Entries eliminated from a competition are eligible to compete in the remaining competitions of the event. Officials For a RECOGNIZED ADS Continuous Drive: Judges must have an ADS license in Driving or Combined Driving. However, provided they are not the Technical Delegate for the Event, a Technical Delegate with either an ADS or Combined Driving license (or for events fewer than 30 entries, a technically qualified horseman) may judge Cones/ Competition sections. A Technical Delegate with either a Driving or Combined Driving license is required for events with 30 or more entries. Starting Each entry will be assigned a start time and will complete the competitions consecutively and in the order determined by the organizer. Rest periods of a few minutes should be allowed between each competition. 4

5 Boots Bell boots, shin boots, protective hoof boots and leg wraps may be used in all competitions at the discretion of the organizer as published in the Omnibus/ Prize List. Attire Protective headgear may be required for all competitions. It is the responsibility of the competitor (or Parent or Guardian in the case of a junior competitor) to see that the headgear complies with the current safety standards and is properly fitted and in good condition. Attire should be the same for all competitions. Gloves and aprons/lap robes are required unless specified otherwise by the organizer as published in the Omnibus/Prize List. Failure to carry a whip in hand while driving incurs elimination from a competition. If Dressage is offered, a score will be given for presentation at the discretion of the organizer as published in the Omnibus/ Prize List. Scoring Unless specified by the organizer in the Omnibus/Prize List, the following scoring system must be used: Each competition will be scored according to the ADS rules for that competition and the entries placed accordingly. Points for placings are as follows, 1st = 1; 2nd = 2; 3rd = 3; 4th = 4; 5th = 5; 6th= 6; and so on. Points for each competition are combined for a winner in each division. Lowest point total of all entries will be the Overall Event Winner. 5

6 Scoring: Ties Ties for each competition will be decided as specified in individual competition rules. Ties for the overall event winner to be decided by the best score in the competition designated by the organizer as published in the Omnibus/ Prize List.
