It s been a long time since we invited you to join us for a Palgrove Female Sale. In fact, it s been five years - so welcome to our PALGROVE SHOWCASE FEMALE SALE This is a very special sale! You just need to have a quick flick through the catalogue to see that we ve selected a draft of females from the very top shelf of our herd. With over 1500 registered Charolais females (plus ET) calving every year, we re able to offer you the opportunity to secure females from our most successful cow families - the ones that guarantee breeding excellence. You ll immediately recognise them (Digna, Estella, Refine, Festoon, Alyssa, Elegance and the list goes on). These families have bred an unrivaled number of sale toppers, Royal Show Champions and Breedplan performers. Hundreds of progeny have made their way into studs around the country and have made a real impact in their new herds. Our cows and calves will dazzle you - there s quality in every lot. Their tight calving intervals; ability to breed predictability into their progeny; their A+ udder shape; volume and maternal strength will all add value to your herd. We re letting go some cracker calves on these dams and they won t disappoint as they mature. The PTIC heifers demonstrate our commitment to herd fertility - they re moderate framed with perfect teat size and shape and temperament (as with all the Palgrove cattle) is a feature. Health: Palgrove is an accredited TB and Brucellosis free herd. Queensland is recognised as a Johnes Disease Protected, however, live lots are not eligible to travel to W.A. All sale females have been vaccinated with three germ blood and are free to travel to ticky areas. All sale cattle, including calves have been vaccinated twice with 7 in 1 vaccine. Guarantee: Any Palgrove female that proves to be structurally unsound or infertile is fully guaranteed by Palgrove. 6 palgrove S EXCLUSIVE SIRES Silverstream Holster (P) When we first saw Holster (P) as a yearling bull, (his sire needs no introduction) - and then saw his dam at Silverstream stud, NZ, we knew we had to have him! Palgrove owns the exclusive Australian semen rights in Holster. Holster s first progeny have exceeded our expectations. Bulls are thick and powerful with natural performance, but also show that much desired softness. His daughters are really feminine and eye catching - check out his daughters in this sale (they are magnificent). His EBVs rank him in the top 5% of the breed for 200D and top 10% for 600D Wt, Milk, EMA and Fat Cover. He adds the necessary grunt needed in polled cattle, as well as softness. He s a big player in our breeding programme. Sire of seven heifers and joining sire of four females in this sale. Also selling a one off semen package in this sale. Pleasant Dawn Chisum 216A(P) We travelled to Canada looking for a calving ease bull that didn t compromise on performance and our No 1 choice was Chisum. We were fortunate enough to be able to secure the Australian semen rights. Chisum s Canadian EPDs are exceptional - he s a true curve bending sire. He ranks in the top 10% for Birth Wt; top 4% for Weaning Wt; top 2% for Yearling Wt; top 3% maternal and 15% for EMA. His first son to sell in Canada in 2016 topped the Pleasant Dawn Sale at $30,000. He is still their main heifer bull. Our first calves are due in 2017, so we are giving you the very first opportunity to secure your piece of this exciting sire. 7 palgrove S EXCLUSIVE SIRES Silverstream Evolution (P) This is our first release of females by our awesome polled New Zealand sire, Evolution. He has proven himself to be a standout performer at Palgrove, the Silverstream herd, NZ, as well as North America. His progeny have exceptional carcass shape; bone; structure and breed character plus that grunt that we look for in our polled cattle. We love his daughters - they are simply outstanding and account for a high percentage of our replacement heifers. Their substance, maternal traits and overall quality are unequaled. At our Bull Sale in 2016, eight sons sold to a top of $50,000 and averaged $17,500. Commercial cattlemen love them! Evolution sons and grand sons will have a major influence in our herd over the next few years. Sire of eight heifers and joining sire of three females in this sale. Winn Mans Skaggs (P) I toured Charolais breeders in Canada in 2015 looking for a Charolais sire that would meet the high breeding standards we strive for at Palgrove. I found that bull in Skaggs at arguably Canada s No 1 Charolais herd - Sparrow Farms. Canadian EPDs rank Skaggs in the top 2% for Yearling Wt; top 5% for Weaning Wt; top 3% for EMA & top 15% for Marbling. He sired the high selling Charolais bulls in Canada in both 2015 and 2016 ($107,000). He has now achieved legend status in Canada as one of the most sought after breeding bulls in the country. Cam Sparrow describes his daughters as phenomenal, with exceptional udder type and very easy keeping. His first calves have just hit the ground at Palgrove and are everything we expected them to be. Refine 157 is an exceptionally easy-doing type with tremendous volume and softness and obvious fertility. There s full on productivity in this pedigree with her dam producing 9 progeny in 9 years and sons selling to $24,000. Her sire has recorded 60 progeny at Palgrove with many daughters retained in the herd. She is well above average for most performance traits; including top 5% of the breed for IMF%; top 10% for Fat Cover and top 15% for Eye Muscle and 200D Wt. Polled bull Calf PK M925E; DOB: 11/9/16; Sire: Palgrove Howzat (P). A really soft, thick-set calf that really adds to the appeal of this Lot. She is a registered donor dam and has been used in Palgrove s IVF programme. 7 progeny in 7 years with a Daily Calving Interval (DCI) of 377 days. Elegance is the dam of Palgrove Herald (P) (sold for $16,000 and grand dam of Keystone (P) - who is currently a stud sire in our herd. Three daughters have also been retained in the Palgrove herd and a grand daughter sells in this sale as Lot 39. This is a classic Charolais female - plenty of volume; perfect udder and the type of female to build a herd around. Her EBVs indicate above average Growth, Milk and Muscle. 10 LOT 3 Palgrove Panache 210 ET PK E102E Calved S: Exclusif S: SILVERSTREAM PERFORMER FF D: Silverstream Houghty A tremendous beef cow with the volume and depth that will really impress when you see her. 6 progeny in 6 years with an exceptional DCI of 358 Days. Two sons sold have averaged $7750 and three daughters have been retained. Well above average EBVs for Growth with a top 10% ranking for Eye Muscle. She is sired by the New Zealand legend in Performer and out of a donor dam that has become a household name (producing forty progeny including several high sellers and show champions). We recognise our Panache cow family as one of the best in our herd and this female ranks among the top performers. Bronwin is a donor female with 18 progeny registered to date. Eight daughters have been retained in the herd. Three of her sons by Red Smoke (P) R/F sold in our 2016 Bull Sale for the incredible average of $19,334. This double polled cow was shown successfully as a heifer. She s feminine, heavy milking and super fertile - everything you want in a top producing female. She s sired by the $57,500 Yukon Jack R/F and out of an outstanding, super fertile cow that produced eleven progeny. Palgrove sold her grand dam to the USA for embryo production. COW FAMILIES Palgrove is firmly committed to the belief that in any livestock enterprise the most critical thing is the establish of consistent and productive cow families. Good individual bulls may come and go, but consistent quality lines of bulls, year after year, can only be bred out of females where selection for maternal strength is a priority. We choose a balance of the most economically important traits and select our females on pedigree, performance (EBVs) and phenotype. Our females must be moderate in frame; have good udder shape; plenty of milk; able to rebreed annually with a calving interval of less than 370 days. Their temperament and doing ability must be immaculate. Our large herd numbers mean we can t carry non performers. As a result, our cow families have rewarded us with reproductive soundness and progeny that have carried the Palgrove brand with pride. The majority of the herd sires selected for use in the stud combine two to three of our most predictable cow families.
