1 1 "Multifaceted approaches against salmon louse, Tuesday 29 April and Wednesday 30 April 2014, Hotel Hafnia, Thorshavn, the Faroe Tuesday 29 April :30 08:50 Coffee, tea and fruit Workshop goal The purpose of this workshop is to convene experts in salmon sea louse research to discuss and suggest ways to solve the salmon sea louse problem. Consider protection of farming areas or fish against salmon louse: physical, mechanical, biological. Debate alternative methods to pesticides, like efficient use of louse eating fishes. Talk about establishing molecular markers of salmon louse resistance, and their use in breeding. Assess use of biological resistance markers as therapeutics. Exchange ideas about interference with salmon louse life cycle, like the sterile insect technique. Explore surveillance of salmon louse leading to prediction of outbreaks: mathematical models. Suggest a common Nordic/international delousing policy. Establish consortium for conducting future research and raising money from national and international funds Rapporteur: Debes Christiansen; MSc.
