3 Recipe Corner Maximum Peaches: Cobbler Submitted by Bill Schweitzer 1 cup Bisquick 1 cup sweet milk 1/2 tsp. cinnamon (you may substitute nutmeg) 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted (I prefer butter) 3/4 cup granulated sugar OR 1/2 cup sugar (if using sweetened peaches) 1 can (29 oz.) peaches (drained) set strained juice aside for later option 1 can (15 ox.) peaches (drained) set strained juice aside for later option (Note: if you use fresh peaches, it will take from 4 to 6 regular size peaches for an 8 x8 baking dish. You will need 1 cup of sugar with fresh peaches.) Directions Chop peaches into very small pieces (giblets) and set aside. Drain peach giblets in colander to remove any additional juice. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix milk and sugar, blending well. Add Bisquick slowly to prevent lumps. Combine melted butter and cinnamon and add to Bisquick; mix well. Divide the Bisquick blend approximately **50/50 and set aside. Mix one of the 50/50 Bisquick blends with the chopped peach pieces and stir well. (**I set aside just under 1 cup to a full cup.) Use a baking dish or an 8 x8 Pyrex dish and preheat for 3 to 5 minutes. (I also use Pam.) Add the remaining half of the Bisquick mix, that you set aside, to the heated baking dish. Carefully spoon in the peach/bisquick mixture onto the Bisquick mix in the baking dish. Cook for 50 to 65 minutes. Check cooking after 50 minutes. My oven requires around 60 minutes to brown well. (I use closer to 60% in the peach mix and 40% in the baking dish.) Note: the addition of juice poured over the peach pieces will make the baked cobbler very soft, after baking. If you like baked crust on top, then reduce the amount of juice over the peach pieces to little or none. Post Baking Options: After baking, sprinkle browned cobbler with a light sugar/cinnamon mixture. If you desire a crusty top, limit the added juice, after baking. You may add up to 3 tablespoons of drained peach juice over cobbler. The added juice will enhance softness. You may add the juice after the sugar/cinnamon sprinkle or before, your option. You will have around 1-1/4 cups of juice after draining. The sweetened juice may be saved for other uses. Store in fridge in a small, closed, container. Note: If you add the juice to the cobbler before baking, enlarge the baking dish to an 8 x12 and add another 1/2 cup of BIsquick to the mixture. The Marine from WWII served in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal earning a Medal of Honor then ordered to returning to help with War Bond tours. His request to return to the fighting in the Pacific was finally honored, but sadly he was killed fighting at Iwo Jima. A true American Hero. You might think twice about arguing with the current John Basilone as his ancestors...blood may run pretty deep. For the GPGC Pistol committee, Dan Brown Streamlined Texas Hunter Education Process Takes Effect AUSTIN Beginning Thursday, September 19, hunters who need to complete the state s required hunter education will have expanded contemporary options designed to be more convenient, flexible and accessible. Anyone born after Sept. 1, 1971, must successfully complete a hunter education training course or purchase a one-time deferral good for one license year in order to hunt legally in Texas. The certification is valid for life and is honored in all other states and provinces. The new options for hunter education certification include a streamlined, one-day basic course and an option for anyone 17 years of age or older to take the hunting safety training completely online. The combination online home study and 4 to 5 hour skills field day course will still be offered, as well as advanced hunter education and in high school and college courses across the state. The basic course will introduce and demonstrate skills focused on essential core competencies of safe, legal and ethical hunting. Since mandatory hunter education first started in 1988, the number of hunting accidents and hunting fatalities has steadily declined to less than 3 per 100,000 hunters. Few accidents involved those who had completed hunter education. Most thought we d be having a downpour, considering the weather guessers advice. Meredith and Jana are Jim Grabbe s daughters and are nieces of Jim Wilson. Sort of a family gathering at the Pistol Range. We welcome back, Jana, after the birth of her 3rd child and some medical issues that troubled her in the spring. Tonight the tables were turned - Meredith won over her Dad!!!! The high scorers were: Mike Horton 3rd, scoring 249-4Xs, shooting a High Standard 22 with a red dot sight, and using a ONE-hand hold. Jim Grabbe, 2nd, scoring 268-3Xs, shooting a Walthers 22 GSP with a red dot sight, using a ONE-hand hold. Meredith Turney, winner, scoring 280-5Xs, shooting a Walthers 22 GSP with a red dot sight, using a 2-hand hold. 11 Bullseye Match Results September 26th continued September 26th High Scorers: Mike Horton, Gary Ledbetter & Jim Grabbe Club Turkey Shoot November 24, 2013 Sunday, Nov. 24th, the Annual Turkey Shoot will happen at GPGC. Make sure to put this on your calendar. Club members only, please. Smoked turkey with all the trimmings will be served starting at noon until 1:00pm followed by lots of shooting games with a chance to win a turkey (frozen). Lunch and initial Wolf Chase is $7. Steve Gilmore will be smoking extra turkeys as a fundraiser. The birds will be ready to be picked up on the day of the shoot. Reserve your turkey by signing up on the list in the club office or by contacting Steve ( ) or Gene ( ). The birds will be approximately 12 lbs and we are limited to smoking about 20 so order early. The games will be similar to last year starting with the famous Wolf Chase. Bring your old Long Tom or goose gun and see how you do. There should be a flurry event on the 5 stand field so bring your semi-auto with the plug out or just be quick reloading your over/under. This event is one of the best attended and most fun at the club. Come on out and join in the excitement.
