14 FAQs Getting to Southern Cross Safaris from Johannesburg You will desimbark in Johannesburg, Oliver Tambo International Airport, and catch a connecting flight to Port Elizabeth airport. Clients are collected from the Port Elizabeth airport by Safari vehicle and enjoy an easy drive inland for about three hours to Southern Cross Safaris Private Game Reserve. Travel Documents You will need a passport that is not going to expire for at least 6 months after your arrival back home. Also very important: 3 blank pages available for stamps. You do not need a Visa to travel to South Africa, but it is important that you check with your travel agent for all travel requirements as they do change from time to time and are different from country to country. Gun Paperwork Gun importation is not as complicated as it is made out to be. Southern Cross will guide you through the stepby-step process. Accommodation The client suites have a boutique African atmosphere with kingsize beds, ensuite bathrooms, self-help coffee, tea and beverage kitchenettes, television, air conditioning and wi-fi. There is plenty of wardrobe space, comfortable chairs and a desk for your laptop or writing book. Laundry is done daily by our helpful efficient staff. Telephones, Internet, WI-FI, electrical outlets for charging electronic equipment are all available. International Terms and Conditions A Deposit of 50% of the total daily rate is required to confirm a Safari Reservation. The Balance is payable 7 days prior to arriving at the hunting area or otherwise requested. Trophy Fees are payable on completion of the Safari. A Refund of the Deposit, less costs incurred, will only be considered if the client cancels 60 days before the agreed starting date and an alternative party can be booked for the safari. Safari Charges become effective on the first day of the contracted period and end on the termination date agreed upon. No Refunds for late arrivals or early departures. Payment is to be made either in Cash, Credit Cards, Traveler s Cheques or Bank guaranteed cheques. Wounded and/or lost animals must be paid for in full. Southern Cross Safaris reserves the right to alter its tariff without prior notice. Daily Rate Includes Services of experienced Professional Hunter trackers, skinners and camp staff. Full accommodation, meals and daily laundry. Preservation of Trophies in the field. A Hunting License, covering all game, purchased on your behalf. Alcoholic Beverages wine and malt in moderation Daily Rate does not Include Transportation by road, to and from Port Elizabeth or other hunting areas. Accommodation and travel charges before and after the contracted safari. Travel expenses between initial and subsequent hunting areas. Air Charters between hunting areas where required. The hire of rifles and ammunition. Railage of Trophies to Taxidermists or Exporter. Field Trophy Dipping and Packing. Export Trophy, Dipping, Packing and Freighting. V.A.T. at 14 %, as per Government Regulations on daily rate and or any non-exportable items. Gratuities Professional Hunters and support staff. Tips Tips are an integral part of all in the hunting camps. A good guide line is approx 10% of the value of the hunt. Tips do however vary according to the type of hunt you are on and where you are hunting. I will however advise you accordingly at the completion of the hunt. Other hunters on your Safari Our guest s safari do not overlap so our service and facilities remains exclusive to your safari experience with us. We prefer to accommodate 4 single hunters, 3 couples or a family of four plus one couple per safari. However, if there are any other specific requests, we are only to happy to meet your safari requirements. Best time of year to hunt The hunting seasons in Souther Africa vary from country to country. In South Africa we have no fixed season and hunting can be done at any time of the year. Bear in mind that our seasons are different to the Northern Hemisphere. In the other countries that I operate in I will advise you at the time of booking as to best possible time to be hunting the targeted species. Rifle Calibers It is recommended that for plains game a 30 caliber and for any of your dangerous game hunts the minimum requirement by law is 375. Drinking Water All the water that you have at your disposal for drinking will be perfectly safe. I will advise if there is any change to this rule. Packing What you bring with you depends on what time of year you are visiting. Pack light, and remember the essentials: camera, a good pair of binoculars; adaptor plugs; toiletries including insect repellent and sunblock; medications and prescriptions; extra reading glasses.. Climate South Africa's climatic conditions generally range from Mediterranean in the southwestern corner of South Africa to temperate in the interior plateau, and subtropical in the northeast. A small area in the northwest has a desert climate. Most of the country has warm, sunny days and cool nights. Rainfall generally occurs during summer (November through March), although in the southwest, around Cape Town, rainfall occurs in winter (June to August). Temperatures are influenced by variations in elevation, terrain, and ocean currents more than latitude. Deposit 50% of the daily rate is customary however this may change with the type of hunt you are booking. In the event of a big safari 50% of the total hunt may be required. I will however advise you prior to paying your deposit.

Medical South Africa has a well-developed healthcare system. There are public hospitals throughout South Africa, but as in many other countries, you ll probably get quicker care at a private hospital.

Well-qualified doctors, dentists and other specialists can be found in the main centres but you will have to make an appointment to see one, unless it s an emergency.

Malaria While most of South Africa is malaria-free, this mosquito-borne disease is prevalent throughout the year in the Kruger National Park and the low-lying areas of northern KwaZulu-Natal.
