We host Canada s southernmost pheasant hunt, which has been an Island tradition for more than seven decades. Thousands of hunters from all over the world have attended our unique annual hunts. The Island covers over 10,000 acres and is composed of hedgerows, vineyards, bush and open fields. There is nowhere else in Ontario that you can hunt pheasant over such an expansive area. Pelee Island s hospitality, natural environment, and abundance of free flying birds make our pheasant hunts, truly one of a kind. Pelee Island is more than a hunting destination. Additional Fees These fees include the 13% Harmonized Cancellation Fee $28.25 cdn License Transfer $22.60 cdn Replacement License - (lost or $22.60 cdn forgotten original) REFUND POLICY Cancellations will be accepted up until 15 working days before the Wednesday of the applicable hunt and the actual license(s) must be received by the Township of Pelee no later than 5 working days before the Wednesday of the applicable hunt. APPRENTICE HUNTERS We offer an incentive to any hunter who mentors an apprentice hunter at one of the main hunts. Mentors will receive 10% OFF the cost of their license to help encourage a younger generation of hunters. A non-resident who wishes to hunt in Ontario must be 16 years of age or older. A resident of Ontario who is under 16 but over 12 may qualify under the Hunter Apprenticeship Safety Program. Information on this program can be found in the Ontario Hunting Regulations or call the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) at Anyone qualifying under this program must provide proof of MNR certification and proof of age to obtain a special municipal license free of charge. 3 HUNTING BEST PRATICES and REGULATIONS PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS TO SERVE AS A REMINDER AND DOES NOT REPLACE OR CONTAIN ALL OF THE INFORMATION IN THE HUNTING REGULATIONS SUMMARY ISSUED BY THE MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND FORESTY (MNFR) available at, ent/ontario-huntingregulations-summary New in hunters will be required to wear their licenses on their person while hunting. Plastic holders will be provided free of charge with the purchase of your license (fee of $1 will apply to replace lost holders); HUNTING NEAR THE SCHOOL IS PROHIBITED AND CONSIDERED A VERY SERIOUS OFFENCE. Help us keep our children safe, watch for signs and keep an appropriate distance; Hunters are asked to please respect any areas that are posted as NO HUNTING OR NO TRESPASSING, especially in residential areas; Hunting in standing crops (predominantly soybeans on Pelee) is against Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry regulations, and can be detrimental to the agricultural community on Pelee. Landowners are asked to post NO HUNTING or NO TRESSPASSING signs if they do not want activity in close proximity to their fields or along their hedgerows, this will assist hunters choosing acceptable areas to hunt; Release maps will outline where birds are located, and environmentally sensitive areas that are restricted from hunting. Any other areas not permitted for hunting will be posted on site by individual landowners; While hunting, if a bird drops in a standing crop, it is recommended to have the hunter retrieve the bird, instead of a dog to reduce any potential damage to standing crops, while following Ministry of Natural Resource and Forestry regulations. Hunting is also prohibited in o Fish Point Nature Reserve, o Lighthouse Point Nature Reserve, o Pelee Pheasant Farm, o Pelee Airport; Hunting of pheasants with a rifle, bow or air rifle is prohibited; All guns are to be plugged for three shells; It is suggested that nothing stronger than 12 gauge 2 ¾ number 5 steel shot be used; Only steel shot is permitted on Nature Conservancy of Canada property; Possession of a loaded gun in or on a vehicle is prohibited, this includes leaning a loaded gun against a vehicle or in the flatbed; Guns and shells must be kept separate; Birds must be shot on the fly and not on the ground; There is no discharging of firearms at any time during the three weeks of the main hunts except for on Thursday and Friday, from 8am-5pm, or at the Sportsmen s Club during their regular hours; Party hunting is prohibited; Vehicles are NOT permitted in fields, vineyards, or on private property and must be kept on municipal roadways. If found blocking access roads to fields they may be removed at the owner s expense or ticketed; DO NOT park vehicles on the roadways over night to claim hunting areas. This can be a safety hazard for motorists; All hunters must have a Province of Ontario Small Game Hunting License and Ontario Outdoors Card; Ontario Small Game Licenses and Ontario Outdoor Cards can now be renewed ONLINE, as well as on the Island (CASH ONLY) and at many other locations throughout the province of Ontario. 4 Non-Residents of Ontario must present one original piece of the following documentation to obtain a Non-Resident Small Games License and Outdoors Card to hunt in Ontario: o A current Non-Resident Outdoors Card issued by Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry; o An Ontario Non-Resident s hunting license issued to you after January 1, 1968; o A hunting license issued to you by a competent authority in any jurisdiction as a resident of that jurisdiction after January 1, 1968; Without this proof, you will NOT be able to purchase the Non-Resident Outdoors Card and Small Games License and therefore will NOT BE ABLE TO HUNT. It is your responsibility to verify that you are properly licensed to hunt and to carry these documents with you at all times. If unsure of what proof to bring please call: Random checks for licenses, permits and number of birds will be made by Ontario Provincial Police and MNRF Conservation Officers in the field and/or on either dock HUNTING DOGS Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies and owners should be prepared to produce a certificate attesting to the dog s health; It is very important that your dog has proper contact information on its collar. If you lose or find a hunting dog, contact the Municipal Office at 1045 West Shore Rd, as soon as possible. CANADIAN GUN REGULATIONS and CROSSING INTO CANADA All firearms and weapons must be declared at the border when entering Canada. A Non-Resident Firearm Declaration form must be completed and a $25 fee paid. This form is valid for 60 days, must be carried while hunting, and should be completed prior to arriving at the entry point. It can be found at pcaf/form-formulaire/pdfs/5589- eng.pdf An alternative to registering firearms upon each crossing is to take the Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) Challenge Exam, for a fee of $60. If you do not declare all firearms or weapons, they will be seized and you could face criminal charges. Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Office, Pelee Island: 1058 West Shore Rd Pelee Island, ON, N0R 1M Automated CBSA Information Service: Toll Free (in Canada): Long Distance: or WILD TURKEY Through the co-operation of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Wild Turkey Release Program, the Township of Pelee and the Pelee Island Sportsmen s Club, a pilot project to re-introduce Wild Turkey to Pelee was started in Approximately 25 breeding turkeys were released at various points on the Island, which have now expanded to a substantial flock. UPDATE: MNFR has implemented regulation changes in relation to hunting wild turkey in Ontario. These changes will take effect January 1, As always hunting wild turkey will require an Ontario Small Game License, Ontario Outdoors Card, and a Wild Turkey License. However, hunters are no longer required to complete the Ontario Wild Turkey Hunter Education Course. Moving forward the standardized opening day for turkey season will be April 25 th. FINES FOR SHOOTING WILD TURKEY A summons to appear in court will be issued and the courts will decide the fines and penalties for the infraction.

5 FISHING Fishing in Lake Erie is a popular pastime for both Island residents and visitors. Anglers must possess an Ontario Outdoors Card and a valid Fishing License Tag to fish in Ontario. There are two options for tags, a Sport Fishing License Tag, which permits anglers to catch a full limit, or a Conservation Fishing License Tag, which permits anglers a reduced limit. These licenses are available at the Municipal Office, online or at a variety of locations throughout the Province of Ontario.
