(6 nights) Join the most awarded Norwegian photographer, Pål Hermansen, on our Photo Safari in Masai Mara in February 2018 or in September Be aware that February is the best month for experiencing the predators hunting their prey! We promise you a magical experience! Let us get this straight; you will be joining a photo safari that is so exclusive and special, almost like a dream. However, when you are back home, the evidence will be right in front of you, i.e. all the images you have taken of the most exceptional open landscape and big mammals in action. You may capture wildebeest, lions and native maasai on the open and endless African savannah, in a composition that will surprise your friends, family and even yourself because you have been working and learning from the professionals. We emphasize that this photo safari will focus on experiencing the wildlife and optimizing the photo opportunities. You will get the same opportunities as the most experienced wildlife photographers in the field, the results will be impressive regardless of you being an amateur or a seasoned photographer. In between the game drives - and around the camp fire - Pål Hermansen will be available for personal coaching and advice regarding Photoshop, Lightroom, composition and technical and artistic issues. We will also offer you the opportunity to make portraits of the maasai and document their traditional lifestyle. We will travel with two photographers with different perspectives. Pål Hermansen is acknowledged as one of the 10 most innovative photographers in the world. Ole Bernt Frøshaug, the co-founder of Basecamp 20 years ago, knows the maasai people and the savannah as his own backyard. He has a life long experience as a professional documentary photographer and filmmaker. To see or not to see To photograph is all about seeing, observing and sorting impressions. Technically, photographing has become fairly simple. A number of photo courses teach you to deal with equipment and take pictures that are technically acceptable. However, if you wish to take pictures that are of interest not only to yourself and your friends, the challenge is still huge, it requires a personal process where you consciously observe and interpret the world surrounding you. Every day on the photo safari, you will get the chance to practice and in between the game drives you may receive valuable professional feedback on your images, We aim at spending time on the beautiful savannah when the light conditions are optimal, i.e. early mornings and around sunset. During daytime hours we will focus on informal dialogue and advice. Our experience from previous photo safaris has shown that most participants have a remarkably progress. 3

4 When you present your pictures, we will give you feedback whether it is landscape, documentary, portrait or nature photography or classical modernist and postmodernist art photography. You will receive the instructions you ask for on how to improve the quality of your images; on photo composition, use of light and so forth. The most important, however, will be to give you a visual understanding of what photography is all about, and through one week of working together, discussing and sharing experiences you will hopefully get the inspiration to observe and interpret your surroundings in a new way. The Photo Safari is suitable for both beginners and more advanced photographers. You need to bring your own camera and your PC/MAC with a basic photo-editing program. Basecamp, among the best safari camps We meet on the Kenyan savannah, also known as the 7th wonder of the world. We stay at Basecamp Masai Mara and Wilderness Camp, two exclusive safari camps that have received awards and great attention for their focus on responsible tourism. The maasai possess a long traditional knowledge about plants, trees and animals. They live and co-exist with their cows and sheep, surrounded by hyenas, lion and elephants. While on jeep safari and walking safari we will have the pleasure of getting to know their culture and rich traditions. Basecamp Masai Mara sits on the river Talek, bordering the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The density of big mammals are higher than anywhere else in the world and the open landscape provides an unique opportunity to experience and spot where the action are happning. You may see lions hunting, cheetahs roaming or giraffes in the sunset. Bird life on the savannah is fascinating and rich; from your private deck on the safari camp we have registered more than 250 species. Basecamp is concerned with protecting the rich biodiversity of East Africa. We cooperate closely with the local communities regarding health, education, tree planting and access to clean drinking water. Our safari camps are operating on solar energy, and a camp walk will introduce you to a number of innovative eco solutions. Most of our guests on previous photo safaries have opted for an extension as the main trip comes to an end.
