Key Issue: protecting species & habitats evenly across the land base Habitat protection is key to recovering species or keeping species off endangered species lists Most species face threats from numerous sectors Residential & commercial development is the most common threat to species in BC A high proportion of species at risk occur on private land (e.g. 38% of known plants at risk) Consider species-at-risk needs early in decision-making processes to avoid or minimize potentially harmful effects Shared stewardship
