Make It Fun: Introductory Activities Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as children arrive. Let one or two teachers lead activities in different areas of the room while another teacher greets parents and children at the door. Activity 1 Animal Match Made to Play: An activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts What You Need: One small piece of each of the following fabrics or ribbon: pink satin, brown leather, blue or green sequin, and brown fur Before the Activity: Guide the children to sit in front of you. Place all of the fabrics in front of the children. During the Activity: Describe the following animals with the sound that they make and where they live: pig, fish, cow, and dog. After you describe the first animal, ask the children to pick which piece of fabric looks like that animal. Describe the three remaining animals. Pink satin = pig, leather = cow, sequins = fish, and fur = dog. What You Say: Before the Activity: We are going to talk about animals today. I love animals! During the Activity: I am going to describe an animal and you see if you know which animal I am talking about. Are you ready? (Pause.) The first animal says, Oink, oink, and lives in the mud. Do you know what animal I am talking about? (Pause.) YES! A pig! Look at these fabrics. (Point.) Which one looks like a pig? (Pause.) Perfect! The pink one looks like a pig. The next animal says, Moo, moo, and lives on a farm. Do you know what animal I am talking about? (Pause.) YES! A cow! Look at these fabrics. (Point.) Which one looks like a cow? (Pause.) Perfect! The leather one looks like a cow. Our next animal makes this face (make fish face) and lives in the water. Do you know
2 what animal I am talking about? (Pause.) Yes! A fish! Look at these fabrics. (Point.) Which one looks like a fish? (Pause.) Perfect! The one with sequins looks like a fish. Okay, one more! Which one looks like a dog? (Pause.) Perfect! The one with fur looks like a dog! Way to go! After the Activity: Great job helping me match the animals to the fabrics! Today we are going to hear about how God made ALL of the animals! WOW, that s a lot of animals! Let s get ready to hear a TRUE story from the Bible! Make It True: Bible Story Time 2. Bible Story What You Need: 1 canvas bag with an unopened water bottle, 1 cardstock copy of Sun and Moon and Stars pictures,1 fake flower, toy fish; toy or stuffed animals/room Shared/Room Supplies: Bible STORYTELLER: (Place Bible and box on the floor in front of you.) (Hold up water bottle.) And water is say it with me! STORYTELLER: We can do so many things with water! We can drink it. We can go swimming in it. It s a very important thing. What else do you see? (Hold up sign of sun, moon, and stars.) Yep, the sun and moon and stars. They are say it with me! STORYTELLER: I m SO glad God made the sun so it s nice and bright outside. What do you see now? (Hold up the flower.) That s right! God made land and plants and trees and flowers. They are say it with me! STORYTELLER: Great job! Now, God saw this amazing place but there was nothing to live there and enjoy it! So what do you think God made next? (Hold up bird.) God made the birds! God said, Let there be fish in the water and birds in the sky! (Hold up foam fish.) All the fish were made by God, too! That is SO amazing! But God wasn t done yet, friends, oh no! What do you think He made next? (Hold up a few stuffed animals.) Yep! Animals! God said, Let there be animals of all kinds! (Point to all the different stuffed animals.) He made the monkeys, the giraffes, the kitty cats, the dogs, and even the cows. (Big sigh.) He made everything! When God was done making all the birds, fish, and animals, He looked at them and said, It is goo-ood! (Two thumbs up.) Can you say that with me? (Pause.) Ready? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: It is goo-ood! (Two thumbs up.) Curriculum Materials for 1- and 2-year-olds 2009 First Look. All rights reserved. 2

It s true, friends! Who made everything wonderful? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful! STORYTELLER: That s great! Say it with me one more time. Who made everything wonderful? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful! STORYTELLER: That s the truth, friends. Let s pray and thank God for the amazing things He made. 3. Prayer STORYTELLER: Dear God, thank You for making the birds, the fish, and all of the animals! We love You so much, God! Amen. Great listening today, friends! 3. Wonder! Look At God s Story DVD: Animal Worship **The worship music is provided on a DVD. The words to each song will be shown across the bottom of the screen of the TV** What You Need: A DVD player, the August DVD and this month s worship song: Come and See Make It Stick: Application Activities These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible story and Bottom Line. You may want to lead one activity at a time. Or offer two activities at once and allow half the children to participate in each, then switch groups and repeat the activities. **Please check each child s nametag for any allergies that are listed before giving out snacks. ** Activity 2 Animal Cookies What You Need: animal cookies/class Shared/Room Supplies: wet wipes, paper towels Before the activity: Give each child some animal cookies and recall the Bible story as they enjoy their snack. Curriculum Materials for 1- and 2-year-olds 2009 First Look. All rights reserved. 3
4 What You Say: Come sit and enjoy snack today! The past couple of weeks we have been learning all about the things that God made. [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful. We learned that God made water, the sun, the moon and the stars. God made the land, plants, trees, and all of the animals, too! God made every animal from the smallest fish to the fastest bird to the biggest elephant. God saw that there was nothing in the sky or the water or on the land to enjoy what He had made so God said, Let there be fish in the water and birds in the sky! And they appeared and it was good! But God didn t stop at the birds and fish; He made animals of every kind big ones, little ones, short ones, tall ones, some with two feet, some with four feet, and some with no feet at all! Isn t that AMAZING? God looked around at all He had created and said: It is goo-ood! (Two thumbs up.) Look at all the animals we have for snack today. Which animal is your favorite? (Pause.) Why is that your favorite? (Pause.) That s a good reason! (Ask all the children which animal is their favorite and why.) Let s look at all the animals you chose. Are all the animals the same? (Pause.) No, God made them all different. Let s separate the animals out so we can see how different God made them. Even though they all look different, God made them all! Who made everything wonderful? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful. Activity 3 Turtle Live for God Application Activity Made to Create: An activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, Bottom Line, or memory verse by creating a craft to take home What You Need: Turtle Activity Page copied on white cardstock, brown and green tissue squares Shared Supplies: glue sticks During the Activity: Help the children glue the tissue squares onto the white shell of the turtle. Be sure the children use both colors of the tissue paper. After the Activity: Tell the children some WOW facts about the turtle. What You Say: Before the Activity: We are going to make a turtle today! During the Activity: This turtle s shell is all white. We need to make it green and brown to look like a real turtle! We can glue this (hold up tissue paper) onto the turtle s shell. (Do activity.) After the Activity: God made the turtle wonderful! Did you know that the turtle always has his house with him? He can go inside his shell wherever he goes! How cool is that? Turtle also lay eggs! WOW! Turtles ARE wonderful! Who made everything wonderful? [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful. 5 Activity 4 Animal Toss Animal Toss is an activity that uses gross motor and critical thinking skills as children decide if certain animals should get tossed in the water or into the grass. This activity also reinforces the focus of today s Bible story. What You Need: rubber ducks, plastic toy fish, plastic toy horses and cows/room, 1 medium piece of blue butcher and 1 medium piece of green butcher paper/class During the activity: Have the children decide if the animals should be either in the water or on the land and then toss them onto the right color paper. What You Say: Where do ducks like to swim? (Pause.) That s right; they swim in the water! Can you toss the duck onto the blue paper? (Pause.) Great! Where does a cow like to live? (Pause.) Yes, in the grass! Toss the cow onto the green paper. Super duper! What about this fish? Do fish like to live in the grass? (Pause.) No way! They need water! Toss the fish into the water. How about this horse? (Pause.) It needs to be in the grass! Toss him into the grass. God made all the animals! He made the water and the land, too! [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful! Who made everything wonderful? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful. Activity 5 Colorsheet What You Need: Colorsheet/child Get Ready to Dismiss Greet parents at the door and tell them that this month preschoolers are learning that [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful. Encourage parents to repeat the Bottom Line at home and help their child understand that [Bottom Line] God made everything wonderful. Send any craft activities home with the child as they leave.
