1 Science (1) 1 st Lesson Aim: To discuss living things and their habitats the forest habitat, the underground habitat, the desert habitat, and water habitats what animals eat, the food chain, and introduce extinction and the dinosaurs. Objectives: Terms: habitat, forest, omnivore, herbivore, carnivore Material: For an animal, a habitat is the place where the animal lives, eats, sleeps, makes its home, has its young and gets along (mostly) with other animals. Sensory: (S) Spell H A B I T A T. Questions: An animal s place to live is called its. zoo or habitat Material: An animal s habitat is a special place suited to the animal because the animal is suited to it. Different animals live in different habitats. The way an animal lives has a lot to do with its habitat. Sensory: (S) Write A N I M A L. Questions: Different animals live in habitats. different or the same Material: Some animals that live in a forest habitat are woodpeckers, squirrels, deer, skunks, raccoons, spiders and snails. 5 Forest Habitat The forest is specially suited to certain animals. The shade gives shelter and protection for deer and other animals. Squirrels and birds make nests in the leaves of the trees. Skunks make their homes in the ground or rotten tree trunks. Woodpeckers eat insects that live in the trunks of old trees. Many trees have acorns and berries that are food for forest animals. Spiders weave their webs where insects fly, hoping to catch them for food. Snails eat the fallen leaves and raccoons eat the snails!
