4 giraffe manor Uncover the history of the rare Rothschild Giraffe at Giraffe Manor with its resident herd roaming freely but securely through the 140 acres at the historic manor. With their whitesocked legs, distinctive markings and the male s five horns, the Rothschild Giraffe are a true East African treasure. There is a million years of evolution standing between them and the Reticulated Giraffe. With fewer than 700 of this rare species left in the wild, an encounter with them is an iconic experience, as is a stay here at the Manor.

5 Built as a private home in 1932, Giraffe Manor is an elegant and exclusive property that has just 10 bedrooms. Each room is uniquely laid out and decorated, with eclectic Art Deco touches and antique furnishings. It is over breakfast that you will get to know the giraffe s individual personalities, as they crane their necks through the enormous, open windows looking for a snack. 6 sala s camp It took the owners of The Safari Collection four years to seek out the perfect spot for Sala s Camp. This area of the Mara had long been shut off to visitors, but as the camp sprang to life, the rhino conservation teams assisted with extensive wildlife monitoring, making the area a safe haven for visitors and wildlife. Today the plains surrounding Sala s Camp are home to prolific birdlife, lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and more, plus a growing rhino population.

7 In its quiet corner on the Southern Kenya/Tanzanian border, Sala s Camp offers its visitors an experience with little interruption from other safari vehicles, you are alone to uncover the Masai Mara. You may however, be joined by any one of the big five, and the camp gives you front row seats to witness one of earth s most dramatic spectacles The Great Wildebeest Migration. At night sleep in traditional, but extremely comfortable, canvas tents, and enjoy a bush breakfast as the plains come to life. 8 sasaab Perched high on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, this Moroccan-inspired lodge is an oasis in the heart of Kenya s Northern Frontier. It is here that you can uncover the secrets of the Samburu tribe. The Samburu take pride in their distinctive appearance, adorning themselves lavishly with brightly coloured beads, feathers and copper. Visit their markets, or unique manyatta settlements, as they proudly share in their culture.

Denys Finch Hatton was a friend, Karen Blixen a neighbor.
