1 Check Out Our 5,000 Amazing Animals DID YOU KNOW? The Toronto Zoo was the first Zoo in North America to group animals and plants geographically! The Toronto Zoo is Canada's premier zoo with over 5,000 animals representing more than 450 species in various regions and pavilions based on geographical locations. The Zoo is divided into seven zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, the Americas (North and South America), Eurasia Wilds, Tundra Trek, Australasia and Canadian Domain. Animals can be seen indoors in tropical pavilions and outdoors in naturalistic environments, with barrier-free viewing at many levels. Blanding s Turtle Emydoidea blandingii Americas Also known as the "Underground Pavilion," this is home to our New Blanding s Turtle Exhibit and a fascinating variety of animals and plants from otters to two-toed sloths! Just beyond the pavilion is an enjoyable walk that includes the South American Waterfall and Mayan Temple Ruin. Animals here include jaguars, blackhanded spider monkeys and American flamingos. Meet-The-Keeper Talks Snake and North American River Otter (feeding only)
2 African Rainforest Pavilion The pavilion features the return of the giants: the Aldabra tortoises. Three mega-size Aldabra tortoises returned to the Toronto Zoo and have taken up residence with our ringtailed lemurs in a mixed-species exhibit. This pavilion is also the home of the largest indoor gorilla exhibit in North America. The pavilion features a dramatic two-acre African Rainforest, Western lowland gorillas, the gaboon viper, pygmy hippopotamus, ringtailed lemurs, dwarf crocodiles and much more! Western Lowland Gorilla Gorilla gorilla gorilla Meet-The-Keeper Talk Western Lowland Gorilla Tundra Trek Experience the award-winning 10-acre Tundra Trek featuring a five-acre home for our four adventurous polar bears, Nikita, Aurora and our two returning brothers Hudson and Humphrey! Plus, don't forget to check out the Arctic wolves, Arctic fox, reindeer and snowy owl. Meet-The-Keeper Talk Polar Bear Polar Bear Ursus maritimus
