2 10/22 You depart for Europe and begin the trip of a lifetime! 10/23 Upon our arrival in Europe, we connect with our onward flight to Nairobi, Kenya. You will arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi in the evening where you will be met by your TRIPS safari director and assisted with your transfer to the beautiful Nairobi Serena Hotel for overnight. 10/24 After breakfast, our safari team will host a presafari briefing prior to our visit to a suburb in the outskirts of Nairobi named KAREN after Karen Blixen of Out of Africa fame. You will hear fascinating stories about her life, while enjoying a tour of her home. Then you travel to the Giraffe Manor where you can hand feed the endangered Rothschild giraffe. You will also have the opportunity to hear a presentation by a resident expert and learn delightful facts about this amazing animal did you know that every step an adult giraffe takes is 15 feet long? Or that they can attain speeds of over 35 miles per hour? Next, you will tour the Kazuri Bead Factory where you will see firsthand how local craftspeople make and string these stunningly beautiful beads. This cottage industry was developed in order to provide a trade for local women. Today, Kazuri beads are sold around the world, often at prices upward of $80.00 per necklace. Here, you will have the opportunity to purchase these beautiful, one-of-a-kind creations for a fraction of the retail price. After time to freshen up back at the Serena, you will depart for your special Welcome-to-Africa dinner at the famous Carnivore Restaurant. (B/D) 10/25 Safari means journey in Swahili and today you depart Nairobi, driving through lush tea and coffee plantations to the beautiful Aberdare Country Club. This afternoon you will be part of a special group that will travel into the Aberdare National Forest bound for your tree hotel for the evening The Ark. This unique hotel is built on stilts deep in the heart of the forest. The flood-lit waterhole permits all day and all night game viewing rom the comfort of the lodge s many decks. There is also an underground bunker which will bring us virtually eye-to-eye with the big game that gather at the waterhole. This is an excellent spot to see warthog, rhino, cape buffalo, bushbuck, and elephant. Elephants especially love this natural salt lick and may spend up to an hour on their knees digging in the ground with their tusks. If you choose to retire, a buzzer in your room can alert us to sightings of special game animals. 10/26: You depart The Ark after breakfast with your private driver/guide and traverse the Line of the Equator, crossing from the Southern to the Northern Hemisphere. You continue on to the town of Nanyuki and the home of the exquisite Mt. Kenya Safari Club. Sprawling on the slopes of Mt. Kenya, this exclusive club offers a refined elegance and luxury unparalleled anywhere else on the continent. The sumptuous dining, gracious hospitality, and deluxe accommodations are sure to be highlights of your stay. This afternoon, enjoy tea served in the zebra bar or visit the animal orphanage, sponsored in part by Stephanie Powers, who still retains a home on the property. The orphanage provides wonderfully close-up photography opportunities, so be sure to bring your camera! This evening, you will enjoy the fine dining available here at the club.

3 10/27 You depart the club after breakfast bound for the northern region of Kenya and the Samburu/Buffalo Springs National Reserves. Many other safari programs overlook this amazing and wonderful region. In fact, Samburu is one of the most interesting game parks in East Africa. You arrive at the Sarova Shaba Lodge, set amidst the trees along the Uaso Nyiro River, in time for lunch. After lunch, enjoy relaxing by the pool before setting out in search of game. In addition to elephant, you can expect to see species that are unique to Samburu, including the reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, Grevy s zebra, and the graceful long-necked gerenuk. One of the rewards of your visit to Samburu is the opportunity to spot leopard, the most elusive of cats. Tonight, as you sit and reflect on the wonderful sightings of the day with your fellow travelers, you can observe crocodiles as they lie silently (but always alert) along the riverbank then a sound or movement will reveal how very quickly they can move and snap into life! You may even spot a leopard in the flood-lit trees across the river. 10/28 Today features both morning and afternoon game drives to see more of Samburu s typically northern species, such as the Somali ostrich and the vulturine guinea fowl. The variety and beauty of the bird life here is astonishing and is sure to convert even those who think they have little interest in birds. In fact, over 300 species call Samburu their home. The vivid colors and sharp contrasts among bush, sky, and sand make Samburu a photographer s favorite. Today, TRIPS offers a fascinating and unique opportunity a visit to a Samburu village! You will be allowed to enter a Samburu hut (built only and entirely by the women), as you enjoy a tour guided by one of the villagers. You will learn about the daily life and customs of the tribe, as you enjoy the chanting and dancing (even the littlest children participate!) and admire their elaborate beaded necklaces. This village is truly not to be missed. 10/29 After breakfast, we travel to the local airstrip for your flight over the Great Rift Valley and onto the unspoiled savannah of the Maasai Mara. Below you lies the Africa of your dreams and imagination. This is the land of the Maasai, a cattle-herding people who still remain proudly aloof from western civilization. You arrive at the private airstrip of the Mara Safari Club, your luxury tented camp for the next two nights. As you approach the club, keep an eye out for families of baboons who often frolic in the area. A game drive is planned this afternoon in search of the Big Five: elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion, and leopard. The Mara has the richest concentration of wildlife in Kenya. 10/30 Today, you get a closer look at the Mara, with two extensive game drives. On the plains, with their endless vistas and enormous herds of grazing animals, you will find the predators hidden among the acacia trees: lion, hyena, and cheetah. You will delight in viewing the hippos in the river here they sleep the day away, resting their heads on each other s backs (sometimes you will see as many as thirty!) and occasionally there is a great roaring and showing of tusks when one of them moves in his sleep. These hippos live directly beneath the cliff upon which sits your luxury tent, complete with a wooden deck, canopied beds, a full bathroom, and all of the romance and unique atmosphere of an original safari of years gone by. If ever you plan to take a balloon safari, this is the time and the place and our safari team will assist you in booking this fabulous program option! You will thrill to a bird s eye view of the spectacular world that lies at your feet, as the mist rises over the land. The rivers fan out in every direction and giant herds graze silently beneath you, as you drift slowly above. Your reluctant return to earth is celebrated with a champagne breakfast right there on the veldt, a glamorous and most fitting conclusion to your romantic flight.

4 10/31 After breakfast and a last look at the Mara, you fly back to Nairobi in time for lunch and check into the dayrooms that have been provided for you at the Nairobi Serena Hotel just another detail that sets TRIPS apart from the rest! 6 Presents 10/31 After breakfast and a last look at the Mara, you fly to Wilson Airport in Nairobi and connect to the Mount Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania. If conditions permit, you may get a glimpse of majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro. Here you will meet your Tanzania safari team who will assist in your transfer to the Lake Manyara Serena Hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure at your safari lodge. The area is home to over 350 species of birds that populate the mahogany forest, marsh, grass, and scrub land of Lake Manyara. Lake Manyara is well known as a haven for families of frolicking baboons. (B/D) 11/01 You continue by road today to the Ngorongoro Crater and your home for the next two nights, the Ngorongoro Serena Hotel. The hotel is situated on the rim of the crater from which you can see an awesome panorama...a collapsed volcano of 100 square miles containing prides of lions, rhino, hippo, hyena, and elephant, as well as thousands of antelope. A truly unique location! 11/02 Today you descend to the crater floor for the day. You carry box lunches which have been prepared by the hotel staff. The crater s short grass prairies are an ideal haven for many species. Inside this natural enclosure, you will find many different types of terrain from prairie to savannah to marshland. You return to the rim this afternoon in time to relax by the fire either prior to or after dinner. 11/03 You leave the crater area this morning bound for the world famous Serengeti. This vast area of Tanzania features the largest concentration of game in all of Africa. In fact, it is one of the last places on earth where vast numbers of animals still roam free. You have a full morning of travel ahead, but the journey has many rewards. First, you stop at Olduvai Gorge, the site made famous by Richard Leaky s discovery of early humans. You continue your drive into the Serengeti, with a stop at the park sign for photographs. This drive is always an excellent opportunity to spot game, so keep your eyes peeled for cheetahs or lions resting on the rocks during the day. Although you will arrive at your camp for a somewhat later lunch, the journey should be well worth the trip. Your last two nights of safari will be spent at the Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp which features lavish sleeping and bathing arrangements complemented by commanding views of the endless savannah. This afternoon your safari team will take you into the Serengeti for your first game drive in this massive park filled with both predators and prey. 11/04 You will have the opportunity to savor two game drives today, with time to relax in-between.

7 11/05 You depart camp after breakfast and proceed to the local airstrip for your flight across the plains to Kilimanjaro Airport. You connect to your onward flight to Nairobi, arriving back in the City in the Sun in the afternoon. Upon your arrival, your Kenya safari team assists you with your transfer to the Nairobi Serena Hotel. This afternoon is free for shopping or relaxing at the hotel (B) 11/06 Today you have use of private dayrooms that have been provided for you at the Nairobi Serena Hotel. You may elect to enjoy the lovely pool area or take advantage of the full service spa. Relax and enjoy this day at leisure. This evening, your safari team will assist your transfer to the airport for your evening flight to Europe. (B) 11/07 You arrive this morning in Europe and connect to your onward flight to the USA.
