3 Classes Classes are rated by physical exertion levels. Classes marked E requires little physical exertion, M is moderate physical exertion level, and S is strenuous exertion level. Please know your own physical abilities. To keep overall costs of the workshop down some classes have material fees payable the day of the event. SESSION 1 SATURDAY MORNING 9:00 a.m. Noon Sled Dog Mushing Linda Newman and her beloved Hedlund Huskies are returning to our workshop! This popular class has received excellent reviews, so be sure register early to secure a spot. Topics will include equipment, technique, handling, dog health, and the history of this unique Alaskan line of Husky. You will learn the basics of dog sledding and the commands associated with mushing. If there is sufficient snow pack and safe trail conditions, participants will learn to mush their own teams on a backwoods trail. The class will still be held even if the snow pack is not adequate to run dog sleds. Additional fee of $60 is due when registering for this class. Please enclose a separate check payable to Points Unknown. If you secure a spot in the class your check will be cashed and is non-refundable regardless of cancelation policy. If you do not receive a spot your check will be shredded. Beginning Snowshoeing for Winter Wildlife Learn the basics of snowshoeing then go on a short hike to try out snowshoeing. The instructor will point out wildlife signs along the way. M Indoor/Outdoor Join BOW instructor Kay Okey to learn the basics of Nordic walking. Once inside the dark house you will find a 2 x 3 hole, cut into the ice that is illuminated by daylight, allowing you to view fish under the ice referred to as Norwegian TV. You will learn how to set up the house, how to use an ice saw and tongs, and how to use fish decoys to lure fish in. Fish spearing will be demonstrated.
