2 Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Shooting Sports Open House - February 1 from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the Justice Center in Monroe. Ask questions, meet leaders, complete permission forms and turn in applicable project fees. Sign up for the Air Rifle/Air Pistol Clinic being held on March 17, All participants must complete their permission slip and turn in project fees to the Extension Office by March 2 at 4:30pm. No permission slips or money will be taken at the range. - Cost for each Discipline :.22 pistol,.22 rifle, air pistol, air rifle, archery and muzzleloader is $15 per discipline per shooter (no more than $30 per family per discipline.) Shotgun is $45 per shooter. (no more than $90 per family) Master Shooters pay a single fee of $100 per shooter Workshop Dates Fair shoots for muzzleloader, air pistol,.22 rifle,.22 pistol must begin during your scheduled line time. Wildlife Potluck & Clinic Air Rifle/ Air Pistol Clinic *FREE* Saturday, March 3, Potluck from Noon-1:00 PM, Wildlife clinic from 1:00-3:00 PM. Join Kathleen Tobler for an afternoon of wild fun. We ll share a wildlife potluck (game feed) at Noon. Lunch will be followed by a class led by Kathleen Tobler, wildlife educator, covering topics from wildlife identification to Native dress and tools. Milk, water and table service will be provided. Please bring a dish to pass (with serving utensil). The event is open to all 4-Hers and their families, so bring a friend. 3 Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Criteria IMPORTANT Guidelines for ALL DISCIPLINES The following guidelines have been established in order to be eligible for the 2018 Green County Fair Shoots. We do our best to maintain safe, fair and consistent rules. Discrepancies will be decided by a vote of the Shooting Sports committee. Corrections to this newsletter or additional announcements may be made if necessary, by or on the Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Facebook page. Questions can be directed to the Shooting Sports Coordinator: Theresa Bernstein Permission: To participate in any discipline, a waiver/permission form must be completed at registration. Range rules will be reviewed and the rules will signed at the beginning of each clinic (at the first night for Shotgun and Archery). Participation: Participants that are new to a discipline must attend the clinic portion(s) to be able to shoot their fair target. Schedule: Line times will be scheduled in person or via or phone the week before each clinic. Slots are first come first serve. Line times for Archery are assigned by the archery coordinator. Supplies: Bows, arrows, guns, ammunition, basic hearing protection and safety glasses are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own safety glasses to ensure a better fit. All Safety Glasses MUST BE ANSI: Z87 Compliant. Shooters are responsible for their own water, lunch, sunscreen, chair etc. For.22 Pistol,.22 Rifle, Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Muzzleloader and Shotgun ONLY (Not Archery): Rain Dates: Clinics will be conducted unless severe weather is expected, please check the Green County 4-H Shooting Sports Facebook for day of weather updates/cancellations. If a clinic is cancelled due to weather it will be moved to the rain date. Attendance and Fair Shoot Make ups: If you need to miss a clinic you must contact the UW-Extension office AND Peter Bernstein before the scheduled workshop begins. Make-up shoots can be scheduled with Peter Bernstein for another clinic day or Make-up Day depending on leader availability. Due to time constraints, only one discipline per shooter can be made up on Make Up Day - June 9, 2018 from 9:00am - 12:00pm. (All fair shoots for shotgun must take place on or BEFORE the scheduled fair shoot day.) IF WE DO NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF LEADERS TO SAFELY RUN THE RANGE, CLINICS MAY BE DELAYED OR CANCELLED Master Shooter Master Shooters must complete fair shoots for all disciplines to be eligible for awards. No 0 scores may be taken. All Master Shooters must be enrolled in Green County 4-H. Master shooter will have two divisions: Jr. Division = Grades 6-8 and Senior Division = Grades 9+ Prizes will be awarded to the top three individuals in each division. Spring
4 Air Rifle 4-H Air Rifle at the Green County Fair: The Air Rifle Fair Shoot will be Saturday, May 12 from 9am - 4pm, following the workshop. Paper targets shot at the contest must be labelled with name, grade and shooting position and stapled to 14 x22 poster board & displayed at the Green County Fair in order to collect premium. Attaching anything else to the poster board is optional, and will not affect fair results. Fair & Session Classes (Be sure to enter your targets on your Fair entry form.) * Air Rifle Shooting Contest, Grades 3-5 * Air Rifle Shooting Contest, Grades 6-8 * Air Rifle Shooting Contest, Grades 9+ 4-H Air Rifle Notes: The session will consist of a meeting regarding safety, range rules, gun parts and a discussion of the day s three shooting positions. We will also teach the participants how to sight in your rifle and how to use a spotting scope. The three shooting positions will be Prone, Kneeling & Off-Hand. Paper targets will be shot from a distance of 33 (10 meters). With 5 practice shots and 10 target shots.. Ammunition & targets will be supplied by the range. Shooters are allowed to bring their own pellets, but instructors will have possession and distribute all pellets while at the session & return unused the pellets back to those shooters who brought them at the end of the session. Air Rifles are supplied by the range. Shooters are allowed to bring their own rifles, but it must be inspected & approved by a range master before using. No high velocity rifles (must be less than 700 ft per second) Safety glasses are required for shooters and spectators within 10 meters of the firing line. Slings are allowed in the prone & kneeling positions only, slings are not allowed in the standing position. Slings are provided if needed. Rifle must be loaded & fired in single shot fashion only. Ties will be broken with the most number of tens, most number of nines, most number of eights, etc. Second tiebreakers will be the first ten hit in sequence until the tie is broken. Air Pistol 4-H Air Pistol at the Green County Fair: The Air Pistol Workshop & Fair Shoot will be Saturday, May 19, 2018, 9:00 am 4:00 pm. Paper targets shot at the contest must be labelled with name, grade and shooting position stapled to an 11 x14 poster board & displayed at the Green County Fair in order to collect premium. Attaching anything else to the poster board is optional, and will not affect fair results Fair & Session Classes (Be sure to enter your targets on your Fair entry form.) * Air Pistol Shooting Contest, Grades 3-5 * Air Pistol Shooting Contest, Grades 6-8 * Air Pistol Shooting Contest, Grades 9+ 4-H Air Pistol Notes: New Air Pistol Participants must have previous 4-H experience with Air Rifle or have successfully completed Hunters Safety. The session will consist of a meeting regarding safety, range rules, gun parts, and shooting techniques. Paper targets will be shot from a distance of 33 feet (10 meters), 20 shots, 4 bulls, 5 shots on each bull. Positions are as follows: * Grades 3-5: Full Bench Rested Rested and Elbows * Grades 6-8: Elbows and Two Handed * Grades 9 + : Two Handed and One Handed only Ammunition & targets will be supplied by the range. Shooters are allowed to bring their own pellets, but instructors will have possession and will distribute all pellets while at the session & will return unused pellets back to those shooters who brought them at the end of the session. Air Pistols are supplied by the range. Shooters are allowed to bring their own pistols, but it must be inspected & approved by a range master before using. 5 Muzzleloader 4-H Muzzleloader at the Green County Fair: The Muzzleloader Workshop & Fair Shoot will be Saturday, April 21, 2018, 9:00 am 4:00 pm. Paper targets shot at the contest, along with the silhouette scorecards, must be labelled with name and grade, and stapled to a 22 x 28 poster board & displayed at the Green County Fair in order to collect premium. Attaching anything else to the poster board is optional, and will not affect fair results Fair & Session Classes (Be sure to enter your targets on your Fair Entry Form) * Muzzleloader Shooting Contest, Grades 6-8 * Muzzleloader Shooting Contest, Grades 9+ 4-H Muzzleloader Notes: Hunter Education is required and youth must be 12 years old. The session will consist of a meeting regarding safety, range rules, gun parts, proper cleaning and shooting techniques. Paper targets & silhouettes will be shot. Weather permitting Ammunition & targets will be supplied by the range. Muzzle Loaders are supplied by the range. Shooters are allowed to bring their own, but it must be inspected & approved by a range master before using. Safety glasses are required for shooters and spectators within 10 meters of the firing line. Hearing Protection must be worn & some is available at the range..22 Rifle 4-H.22 Rifle at the Green County Fair: The.22 Rifle Workshop & Fair shoot will be Saturday, April 28, 2018, 9am-4pm. Silhouette scorecards from the fair shoot must be labelled with name and grade and stapled to a 11 x 14 poster board & displayed at the Green County Fair in order to collect premium. Attaching anything else to the poster board is optional and does not affect fair results Fair & Session Classes (Be sure to enter your targets on your Fair Entry Form).22 Rifle Shooting Contest, Iron Sights, Grades Rifle Shooting Contest, Iron Sights, Grades Rifle Shooting Contest, Scope Sights, Grades Rifle Shooting Contest, Scope Sights, Grades 9+ All age groups will shoot prone position and standing. 4-H.22 Rifle Notes: Participants must be 12 years old and have successfully completed hunters safety. The session will consist of a meeting regarding safety, range rules, gun parts, sighting in the rifle and shooting techniques. Silhouettes will be shot. Silhouettes will be fired from distances of 40 meters, 60 meters, 77meters, & 100 meters, 5 shots per bank-2 banks of each silhouette-total of 10 shots at each distance-40 shots in all. Semi-automatics will be allowed for silhouette shooting. Ammunition & targets will be supplied by the range. Some.22 Rifles are supplied by the range. Shooters are allowed to bring their own rifles, but it must be inspected & approved by a range master before using. No hyper-velocity ammunition will be allowed Safety glasses are required for shooters and spectators within 10 meters of the firing line. Hearing Protection must be worn & some is available at the range. Ties will be broken with by the number of silhouettes shot in a row starting with the first one in the row; starting with the rams, then turkeys, then pigs, and lastly chickens. Spring
6 .22 Pistol 4-H.22 Pistol at the Green County Fair: The.22 Pistol Fair Shoot will be Saturday, June 2, 2018, following the workshop. Silhouette scorecards must be labelled with name and grade and stapled to a 11 x14 poster board & displayed at the Green County Fair in order to collect premium. Attaching anything else to the poster board is optional, and does not affect fair results. Fair & Session Classes (Be sure to enter your targets on your Fair entry form.) *.22 Pistol Shooting Contest, Grades 6-8 *.22 Pistol Shooting Contest, Grades 9+ Both age groups with shoo wrists rested and 2 handed standing 4-H.22 Pistol Notes: Participants must be 12 years old and have successfully completed Hunters Safety Participants must have gone through Air Pistol or any other powder-burning discipline before shooting.22 Pistol. To comply with State Law,.22 Pistols must be transported to and from the range by an adult. The session will consist of a meeting regarding safety, range rules, gun parts and shooting techniques. Silhouettes will be fired from distances of 40 meters, 60 meters, 77 meters & 100 meters, 5 shots per bank-2 banks of each silhouette-total of 10 shots at each distance-40 shots in all. Semi-automatics and revolvers will be allowed. Ammunition & targets will be supplied by the range. Some.22 Pistols are supplied by the range. Shooters are allowed to bring their own pistols, but it must be inspected & approved by a range master before using. Barrel Length cannot exceed 12 in., overall length of handgun cannot exceed 14 in. Safety glasses are required by all shooters and spectators within 10 meters of the firing line. Hearing Protection must be worn & some is available at the range. Ties will be handled in the same manner as in.22 rifle Shotgun The first session of the Shotgun workshops is MANDATORY for ALL FIRST YEAR participants!!! Shotgun: Participants must be 12 years old and have successfully completed Hunters Safety. ~ All first year participants must attend 3 of 5 sessions. ~ All returning participants must attend 1 of 5 sessions. 4-H Shotgun ~ 6:30 pm on Fridays ~ April 20, 27, May 4, Blackhawk Sportsman s Club The Shotgun Fair Shoot will be Friday, May 18, 2018 at 6:30 pm at Blackhawk Sportsman s Club. Shotgun participants that cannot attend the fair shoot must inform an instructor and shoot their fair scores at one of the earlier sessions. Participants shooting their fair shoot early, must declare fair shoot before the first round of the night is fired and must fire two consecutive rounds Score Card must be labeled with name and grade, and stapled to a 11 x14 poster board., and turned in at the fair to collect premium. Shooters will fire from the 16-yard line. Fair Shoot: Everyone will shoot two rounds of 25 clays, one round from each house) NO practice rounds will be thrown. No shells longer than 2 3/4 except.410 gauge. (4H supplies 12ga. and 20 ga.) Trap loads only, magnum, or baby magnum loads, are not permitted. Shot sizes 7 1/2 to 9 only. (4H supplies 12 and 20) In the event of ties, awards shall be decided on the basis of the longest run of hits in the total event beginning with the first target hit. If a tie remains, a ten clay shoot-off will be shot; 2 clays per station. Should this not resolve the tie, the event will be decided by a station by station (1 shot) "sudden death." Amateur Trap Shooters Association rules govern, except for the rules noted above, and when the Match Director alters rules to allow for the smooth operation of the shoot. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required for shooters and spectators. Each shooter is allowed 2 rounds of trap including shells for each of the 5 nights, which includes fair shoot. If a shooter misses a practice night, they can use those rounds & shells on another practice night at the leaders discretion. Shooters can shoot ahead, at the leader s discretion, if they know they are going to miss an upcoming date. Shooters are not entitled to take any shells or birds home with them; they must shoot the rounds of trap on practice nights. If a shooter wishes to shoot rounds in addition to those for which they have already paid with their project fees, the cost will be $7.00 per round. This will be allowed within reason and at the leader s discretion. Spring
7 Archery Beginner s Night: Thursday, March 22 (Time TBD) Archery practice: Sunday afternoons/evenings (Time TBD) March 25, April 8, April 15 Archery Fair Shoot: Sunday, April 22 **Families will be assigned shooting line times.** All practices and fair shoots held at South Central Wisconsin Archers (SCWA), th St, Monroe. Additional practice dates can be made available upon request. Please ask Briget Nusbaum, Archery Coordinator. Shooters targets must be mounted on 22 x28 poster board and brought to the fair in order to collect premium. NEW THIS YEAR: Please write your name, grade, and division on the FRONT of the target. Cost to participate is $15, with a cap of $30 per family. All types of bows (except foot bows and crossbows) are permitted, e.g., recurves and compounds. Barebow any long bow, recurve or compound without sights, stabilizers or mechanical releases. Just a plain bow. Can use glove, finger tab and arm guard. Bow with One Aid can use one aid (sight, stabilizer, release, etc.) No laser sights are permitted. Bow with two or more aids (Freestyle) can use two or more aids (sight, stabilizer, release, etc.) No laser sights are permitted. Junior competitors will shoot 30 arrows at 10 yards. Intermediate competitors will shoot 30 arrows at 15 yards. Senior competitors will shoot 30 arrows at 20 yards. Ten (10) practice shots will be allowed with a time limit of 5 minutes, if no practice range is available. Time limit is 3 minutes per end (5 arrows). Only target or field points are to be used. NO HUNTING POINTS ALLOWED! N.F.A.A. single shot or 5 spot target will be used. Shooters must choose single or 5 spot at registration time. N.F.A.A. whistle commands will be used. All scoring will be done by the scoring judge. Any arrow or target touched before scoring will be scored as a zero. All arrows that miss the target or hit the wrong target will be scored as a zero. Scoring is determined by the position of the shaft. The shaft must break the scoring ring to score a higher value. Any questionable call will immediately be determined by the Range Commander, whose decision will be final. Bounce outs or pass-throughs will be scored only if the judge can unquestionably determine the point of impact; otherwise these will be reshot at the end of the round. No coaching allowed on line during the match Event tiebreakers will be the most number of X s; second tiebreaker will be the most Xs in the last two ends. ***Be sure to fill out the parent authorization/liability form.*** Spring
