2 WHAT WHO WHEN WHERE COST The DSO is a magnificent opportunity for men (manly macho muscular male types) as well as their sons and friends to participate in some male bonding. You will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the finest recreational shooting surrounded by the magnificent beauty of the Anza Borrego Desert. You will also have the opportunity to compete in some of the wildest shooting competitions this side of the Mississippi. This event is for men only. Sorry Ladies!! Fathers are encouraged to bring their sons, 10 years and older, providing they supervise them. All youth 13 years and younger must be accompanied by their Father or Adult Sponsor at all shooting events. No Exceptions!!! November 1 st and 2 nd. (See schedule for specific event times.) Borrego Desert, near Split Mountain. Approximately 2 hours from Escondido. (See driving directions and attached map.) Fees for the DSO are as follows: 2 Days (Friday & Saturday) (Includes meals beginning with dinner on Friday and breakfast and lunch on Saturday): Adults: $25.00 (14 and Older) Youth: $20.00 (13 and Under) 1 Day (Saturday Only) (Includes meals, breakfast and lunch): Adults: $20.00 (14 and Older) Youth: $15.00 (13 and Under) (Your fees go toward the expenses of the shoot-out and the food. Any profits will go toward manufacturing more targets for future DSO events, purchasing clay targets, supplies, etc.) PRE-REGISTRATION All participants are encouraged to pre-register and complete and sign the required DSO waiver Registration can be completed by accessing the link from the New Life Website ( or signing up at the DSO Registration table during the coffee hour. 3 DAY OF EVENT REGISTRATION RESTRICTIONS EMERGENCIES Participants can register on the day of the event. All motorcycles, quads and other vehicles intended for off-road use must remain on the outskirts of the camp at all times. No riding thru the camp and no fireworks!!! (Fireworks are illegal in California) Please contact us ONLY in the event of an emergency. (Please do not call to find out what shirt your husband wants ironed for Sunday service!!) 4 DIRECTIONS ROUTE #1 (Steep grade; heavy braking required): From Escondido through Julian and the Banner Grade Take 78 East from Julian down the Banner Grade. Drive to Ocotillo Wells and turn right (South) on Split Mountain Road. Continue on Split Mountain Rd., past two sharp turns, until you drive through a wash area. On the other side of the wash, you will see railroad tracks on your left. Turn left onto the dirt road (look for the DSO Sign). The dirt road will parallel the railroad tracks and continue on for approximately 3 miles until you come to Party Wash (look for the DSO Flag). ROUTE #2 (Recommended route for vehicles with trailers and/or heavy loads): From Escondido past Lake Henshaw Take Hwy. S6 (Valley Center Rd.) through Valley Center. Stay on S6 until you come to Hwy 76 (Pala Road). Turn Right (East) on Hwy. 76 and go past Lake Henshaw until you come to Hwy. 79 ( T Intersection). Turn left (North) on Hwy. 79 to S2 (San Felipe Road). Turn Right on S2 (East) and continue on to Hwy. 78. Turn Left on Hwy 78 and drive to Ocotillo Wells and turn right (South) on Split Mountain Road. Continue on Split Mountain Rd. past two sharp turns, until you drive through a wash area. 6 LOCAL ACCOMMODATIONS AND SERVICES: Accommodations: There are no local accommodations (hotels/motels) in the Ocotillo Wells vicinity. The closest lodging is located in Borrego Springs which is about a minute drive from the DSO Camp. Services 1 : The nearest services are located in Ocotillo Wells. A small convenience store called The Store offers essentials such as ice, water, food, etc. and is located about 1 mile from Highway 78 on the East side of Split Mountain Road. Gas is available at the Blu-In RV Park which is located 5 to 6 miles east of Ocotillo Wells on Highway 78. They also have a Café and limited items such as drinks and ice. GUN SMITH SERVICES: Gun Smith Services will again be provided by Cody Combes for minor repairs, jams, cleaning, etc. during the DSO. While Cody receives a small stipend for his services from the DSO fund we highly encourage you to consider a tip for any work he performs for you. 1 It is recommended that you bring everything you need to the DSO and not rely on local services for any of your needs.

7 WHAT TO BRING: Must Have: Registration fee, if not pre-paid. Signed Waiver form. Bring your own water or sport drinks 1 (in ice chest or water cooler) o A minimum of 1 gallon of water per day per person is recommended Folding Table (for your weapons and ammo) Eye Protection 2 Required Hearing Protection (Ear Plugs 2 or Muffs) Required Tent & Sleeping Bag (if coming on Friday) Weapons and Ammunition o The amount of ammo you bring depends on the type of weapons you will be shooting and how much shooting you wish to do. If you do not own a weapon, please bring at least 1 Brick (about 500 rounds) of.22 Long Rifle and 5-6 boxes of 12 Gauge Shells, Target Loads. Ammunition can be purchased at the following stores. Cal Customs E. Hawthorne, Fallbrook, CA - (760) Wal-Mart (some locations) Big-5 Turner Outdoor s Man Some ammo may be available for purchase at the DSO in limited quantities. (38 Special, 40 S&W and.22 LR). Do not wait until the last minute to purchase your ammunition!! Highly Recommended: Sunscreen Hat Folding chair(s) Folding Awning for Shade Camera A Warm Spirit Bible 1 DSO fees include water & drinks at mealtimes, but not otherwise. Attendees are expected to provide their own water and/or drinks. 2 Some Ear Plugs & Eye Protection will be available for purchase at the DSO for $1.00.

8 TRAVELING WITH FIREARMS IN CALIFORNIA: HANDGUNS: California Penal Code Section does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not lawfully prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person provided the firearm is unloaded and stored in a locked container. The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section SHOTGUNS AND RIFLES: Non-concealable firearms (rifles and shotguns) are not generally covered within the provisions of California Penal Code Section and, therefore, are not required to be transported in a locked container. However, as with any firearm, non-concealable firearms must be unloaded while they are being transported. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!! * FROM 4:00 PM TO 5:00 PM ON THE 2 nd, WE WILL NEED HELP CARRYING THE EQUIPMENT FROM THE RANGE BACK TO THE OFFICIAL NLPC DSO TRUCKS AND TRAILERS AND LOAD THEM FOR THE RETURN TRIP. PLEASE DO YOUR PART.

10 GUN RANGE RULES: The Head Range Master (Rip Pratt) has absolute authority in directing range activities. In his absence, see the Range Master in Charge. All weapons, when not on the shooting line, must be unloaded with actions and Chambers open and muzzles pointed down range, or holstered; no exceptions. Loading and unloading weapons must be done at the shooting line. Magazines may be loaded away from the shooting line, but may not be placed in the weapon until the shooter reaches the shooting line. Do not place your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire. Beware at all times where you are pointing the barrel of your weapon, especially pistols, whether on or off the range. No shooting across another person s line of fire. Ear muffs or ear plugs and shooting glasses must be worn when the range is hot. Youth under the age of 14 must be accompanied at all times on the range by their father or designated chaperone; no exceptions. No Alcohol on the shooting range; no exceptions. If you drink any alcoholic beverages at lunch or at any time during the day, you will not be allowed to shoot or handle any weapons on the range thereafter. No Fully-Automatic or Listed Assault weapons are allowed. No Tracer Rounds or Incendiary rounds. The Cease Fire time does not apply to the Shotgun Range. Shooters on the shotgun range should not shoot at a badly thrown clay pigeon. Shooters on the shotgun range must follow the single shell loading rule. Weapons on the shotgun range must be on safety when not shooting. Name tags will be worn at all times. The Head Range Master has the authority to remove anyone from the firing line for repeated range violations. NO LOADED WEAPONS IN CAMP!!!

11 ARCHERY RANGE RULES: The Head Range Master has ultimate authority in directing all the activities when the range is open. In his absence, see the Range Master in Charge. No broad head arrows. Field tip or target tip only. No crossbows Maximum of 6 arrows per archer per round Shoot only at designated targets or 3-D figures

12 GUN RANGE CALLS: Shoot what you have and don t load anymore Cease fire - Actions open - All weapons down All Clear? o Each Range Master will answer All Clear Go Forward o No touching of weapons at this time o Everyone go forward to reset targets All Clear? o Each Range Master will answer All Clear Ear and Eye protection on, Shoot Em up EMERGENCY RANGE CALLS: Stop Resume Fire NOTE: On the hour, the Head Range Master will call for Range Master rotation and call the names of the Range Masters and their assigned range. ARCHERY RANGE CALLS: All Clear o Bows are down Go Forward o No touching of bows at this time o Everyone go forward to retrieve arrows and reset targets All Clear Begin Shooting o Archers should shoot no more than 6 arrows per round
