4 Campi ya Kanzi - Chyulu Hills, Kenya The name in Maasai means The Spotted Hills and they are the world s youngest volcanic hills. These Green Hills of Africa where Ernest Hemingway came again and again, inspired him to write The Snows of Kilimanjaro. The Chyulu Hills are one of the most iconic landscapes on the continent, where the view of that famous mountain is supremely beautiful. Six beautiful tented thatch-roof luxury cottages, which sleep up to 16 people, offer spectacular views over largely uninhabited Africa. Rooms are set apart on walkways, with private verandahs. Here, on 400 square miles of Maasai land, dominated by 19,342 ft Mt. Kilimanjaro, you will take game drives, or walk out on the plains among the game to see the unending display of wildlife and birds. 6 Lewa Wilderness - Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya Wilderness Trails consists of 9 thatched cottages, tucked into the hillside overlooking Lewa s Eastern Marania Valley. They are set beautifully in the midst of green lawns and a flourishing garden. Each room is unique and luxuriously comfortable with a rustic ranch homestead character. Lewa Downs is a 55,000-acre Rhino sanctuary, just north of the Equator and overlooked by 17,000 ft Mt Kenya. It is home to large numbers of the unique Northern species such as Grevy zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Somali ostrich, in addition to elephant, rhino, lion, and leopard. Here you will walk, ride horses, and game drive. Lewa Downs has been home to four generations of the Craig family who play a vital role in community development for the local people, and long-term conservation in the area. William and Emma Craig, or their hosts, will look after you during your stay at Wilderness. In your spare time you can relax by the pool, read in the comfort of your patio overlooking Africa, or for the more energetic, have a game of tennis or billiards. Of interest are the prehistoric 500,000-year old Acheulean hand axe site, organic vegetable gardens from which your meals will come, and the local furniture and carpet factories. The Lapage family lived in the unique Ngare Niti House on Lewa Downs for two months each summer for many years, where they hosted their clients.

8 Richard s Forest Camp - Masai Mara, Kenya Richard Robert s traditional classic tented camp. Situated on the Mara s Northern collection plains, you are well away from the beaten track of tourism. Designed with privacy, exclusivity, as well as adventure in mind, it ensures a warm and memorable experience. This traditional camp nestled in a grove of trees, sleeps just 12 guests and is also the Roberts home in the bush. Furnished in true African safari style, the tents feature modern amenities with running water. Beautifully appointed with furnishings and fabrics collected by Liz on her travels, the result is a casually luxurious tented camp, combining exceptional wildlife with a contemporary Out of Africa experience. This camp is ideal for individuals as well as exclusive groups who wish to experience the Masai Mara in a personal intimate setting. The owners, Richard Roberts and Liz Fusco, have lived in this area for many years and have a close relationship with the Maasai people that surround them, and an intimate knowledge of the Mara s wildlife. Richard s Grandparents settled in Kenya in the late 1940 s and his father originally formed Ol Chorro Conservancy. They are actively involved with helping local people benefit directly from wildlife revenues generated by tourism on their land. Alisa and Thor are the current managers. Tucked away in a cool and shady forest, home to resident leopard, the camp looks out onto the Mara Plains. Big cats, giraffe and all other wildlife are regular visitors to the camp s perimeter, while hippos graze the lawns by night. As the weather almost always permits, meals are taken outside under Kenyan skies, but for those rare rainy or chilly evenings, you dine inside, near the beautiful cozy sitting room with its roaring log fire. This camp is also well known for its resident lion pride, which can sometimes be seen hunting right in front of the camp, and often can be heard roaring nearby during the night. Your days here will be spent game driving and taking walks amongst the greatest concentration of game anywhere on earth, and perhaps visit a Maasai manyata to share their culture still virtually unchanged in hundreds of years.
