1 2017 Oklahoma 4-H Archery Mail-In Tournament $10 per entry Deadline for Signup and Payment January 21 st 2017 Scorecards must be postmarked by February 25 th 2017 Proceeds to benefit the Oklahoma State Shooting Sports Team General Rules Participants must be enrolled in the 4-H Archery Project. Participants may enter once per contest per bow type. Participants should have one practice round of 5 arrows prior to starting the contest. Archery coaches are responsible for purchasing targets. The following targets may be used: o Compound: 40 cm Single or 5-Spot o Recurve: 40 cm 5 Color o Genesis: 60cm 5 Color Equipment will follow Oklahoma 4-H Archery Rules Rounds must be shot in one session with a 10 minute break at the halfway point Time-limit of 3 minutes per 5 arrow end. Oklahoma 4-H Archery Indoor Rules and Classes will be followed. Scorecards will be ed to the coach on the registration sheet once payment has been submitted. Scoring All scores will be posted online. Medals will be mailed to the 1 st 3 rd place individuals in each class. Scorecards signed by the participants, scorekeeper and coach must be mailed by the deadline. Incomplete scorecards will not be accepted. Late entries will not be accepted. Awards Medals will be awarded and mailed to the 1 st 3 rd place individuals in each class. A keepsake token will be mailed to every participant who successfully submits a scorecard and the coach whose name appears on the registration sheet. Tokens will be unique for each discipline and will be awarded for the following for 2017: o Indoor Archery Mail-In o Outdoor Archery Mail-In o Air Rifle Mail-In o Air Pistol Mail-In o.22 Rifle Mail-In o.22 Pistol Mail-In
2 2017 Oklahoma Archery Mail-In Tournament Class Distance # of shots Target Junior (ages 9**-11) Recurve 20 yards 12 ends of 5 arrows 60 cm 5 Color Genesis 10 meters 6 ends of 5 arrows 40 cm - 5 Color 15 meters 6 ends of 5 arrows 40 cm 5 Color Intermediate (ages 12-13) Recurve 20 yards 12 ends of 5 arrows 40 cm Single or 5-Spot Genesis 10 meters 6 ends of 5 arrows 40 cm 5 Color 15 meters 6 ends of 5 arrows 40 cm 5 Color Senior (14+) Recurve 20 yards 12 ends of 5 arrows 40 cm Single or 5-Spot Genesis 20 yards 12 ends of 5 arrows 40 cm Single or 5-Spot **Must be 9 years of age and been enrolled for 30 days. All other ages will be determined using members age as December 31, Athletes must be 4-H certified in Archery! Safety Notice: When drawing back the string of the bow an athlete must not use any technique which, in the opinion of the judges, could allow the arrow, if accidentally released, to fly beyond the safety zone (net, wall etc.). The athlete MUST be able to draw on target each and every time. NO SKY DRAWING! If an athlete persists in using such a technique, he or she will, in the interest of safety, be asked by the Director of Shooting to stop shooting and to leave the field. Archers will be allowed 5 practice arrows at first distance! Coaches, participants and parents/guardians are responsible for reading the rules, knowing the rules of their events and complying with the rules and established equipment guidelines. If coaches, members or parents/guardians have questions regarding rules and/or equipment requirements, they are encouraged to contact the State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator for clarification prior to the event. 3 2017 Oklahoma Archery Mail-In Tournament Equipment Standards: There will be THREE separate divisions and they will compete in their respective discipline for awards. Recurve/Long Bow Division One adjustable sight pin or multiple hunting style sight pins may be used; clicker and kisser buttons permitted; Participants may have as many sight pins as deemed necessary; Torque compensators are permitted. String peeps and mechanical release aids are not permitted 60 lb. maximum draw weight. Compound Division Any bow that uses pullies or cams is deemed a compound. Release aids, string peeps, optical sights and spirit levels are permitted. Overdraws may not place arrow rest further than 6 cm from the pivot point of the bow. 60 lb. maximum draw weight. Genesis Bow Division Must be Bare Bow using original equipment. No substitute arrow holders or rests. Bow must not be able to break over when drawn. String peeps, mechanical release aids, wisker biscuits are not permitted Finger tabs and archery finger glovers are permitted 25 lb. maximum draw weight. Arrows: Arrows must meet AMO minimum weight standard. 5 grains arrow weight per pound bow peak draw weight. Examples If your bow has a 60 lb. draw using a 5 grain arrow weight then your arrow cannot weigh less than 300 grains No arrows larger than 27/64ths in diameter are permitted. Bow draw weight and arrow weight will be checked by scales before the event. Genesis Division must use Genesis arrows only and be full length All decisions made by official judge(s) for the event decision will be final
4 Scoring: 1) An arrow shot before or after the specified time, or out of sequence, will be considered as being part of that end and will cause the athlete to lose the highest scoring arrow of that end, which will be scored as a miss. 2) In the event of an equipment failure the athlete will call a judge while stepping back from the shooting line. Extra time may be given to make the necessary repairs. 3) Scoring will take place after each end of five arrows: 4) Scorers will enter on scorecards the value of each arrow in descending order. 5) An arrow will be scored according to the position of the shaft in the target face. If the shaft of an arrow touches two colors, or touches any dividing lines between two scoring zones, that arrow will score the higher value of the two zones involved. 6) Neither the arrows nor the target face will be touched until the value of all the arrows on that target butt have been recorded. 7) If more than the required number of arrows should be found in the target butt or on the floor near the target butt or in the shooting lanes, only the five lowest in value will be scored. 8) When five spot faces are used, arrows may be shot in any order, but if more than one arrow is shot into the same scoring area, both (or all) arrows count as part of that end, but only the lowest value arrow will score. The other arrow, or arrows, in the same spot will be scored as a miss, or as misses. Any arrow missing the target face will be scored as a miss. 9) All arrow holes in the scoring zone will be marked every time when arrows are scored and drawn from the target face. 10) Arrows embedded in the butt and not showing on the face can only be scored by a Judge. 11) An arrow hitting: a) The target butt and rebounding, will score according to the mark it makes on the target face, provided that all other arrow holes have been marked and an unmarked hole or mark can be identified; b) Another arrow in the nock and remaining embedded in it, will score the same value as the arrow struck; c) Another arrow, and deflecting into the target face will score as it lies in the target face; d) Another arrow, and then rebounding, will score the value of the struck arrow, provided the damaged arrow can be identified; and e) A target face other than an athlete's own target face, will be considered part of that end and will score as a miss. 12) For ties occurring in all rounds: Greatest number of 5X s, greatest number of 5's; greatest number of 4's; and after this athletes still tying will be declared equal. 13) Scoring System: 40 cm Single - 5X, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and 5 Spot 5x, 5, 4 60 cm and 40 cm color 10X, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or M for Miss
5 Miscellaneous rules: No coaching allowed by any adult or other shooters either verbal or nonverbal. No smoking is allowed in the athletes area or inside the buildings. No athlete may touch the equipment of another without the latter s consent. While shooting is in progress, only those athletes whose turn is to shoot may be on the shooting line. An athlete may not raise his or her bow arm until the signal is given to start shooting. Neither the arrows nor the target face will be touched until all the arrows on that target butt have been recorded. When drawing back the string of the bow an athlete must not use any technique which, in the opinion of the judges, could allow the arrow, if accidentally released, to fly beyond a safety zone or safety arrangements (net, wall etc.). The athlete MUST be able to draw on target each and every time. NO SKY DRAWING! If an athlete persists in using such a technique, he or she will, in the interest of safety, be asked by the Director of Shooting to stop shooting and to leave the field. No electronic listening devices or cell phones may be in the contest room with participants. No back quivers may be used. Hip quivers or arrow quiver stands may be used. Contestants may not leave the contest room without permission of the Range Officer. QUESTIONS AND DISPUTES Any athlete on the target butt will refer any questions about the value of an arrow in the target to a Judge before any arrows are drawn. The decision of that Judge is final.
