November 5 - BOD Meeting December 3 - BOD Meeting 6 - Breakfast with Santa Wild Game Dinner Needs The annual wild game dinner at Lincoln Bowmen will be held on Saturday February 28, The club is in need of wild game donations for our dinner. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated. We are in need of all types of game such as elk, moose, antelope, buffalo, caribou, perch, walleye and pheasant. Small and large amounts will help. This year we are in need of walleye and perch more than any other need. The club uses approximately 35 pounds of fish for this dinner and we just have not received much of this. If you know of a source that might donate or provide a Thompson at a good price, please contact Larry Thorn or Scott Rhind. Membership Renewals Lincoln Bowmen is a private, working members club. As such we offer working members a discounted renewal rate of $35 (Seniors) and $80 (members under 55) per year with a minimum of 10 work hours. Members may choose to be non-working members; however membership renewal is at an increased rate of $180 and $250, respectively, per year. Active lifetime members are also required to work 10 hours by September of each year. However, lifetime members do not pay renewal fees. A Work Card is provided with each new membership and renewal. Work hours and date the work was performed must be recorded on the Work Card and signed by a director on the day the work is performed. If you forget to record work hours, it is your responsibility to seek out the director running the event or work party to have the work hours recognized and the card signed. If you lose your work card, you can obtain another from any director, record the work date and hours and seek out the director who can validate and sign for the work hours. PLEASE NOTE: If you check the box for a Working membership renewal you MUST include a signed Work Card to receive the discount. If a work card is not included with your renewal it will NOT be processed until a work card is presented or payment is received for a non-working membership. 2 Tuesday Traditional League News NEWS LETTER OF LINCOL N BOWMEN The traditional league is a 16 week league. This non-competitive league is open to all adult traditional archers who shoot longbows, recurves and self bows, without sights, releases or stabilizers. The league will begin on Tuesday January 6 th, 2015, at 7pm with practice beginning at 6pm. We shoot two rounds at 12 burlap targets for a total of 72 arrows. These are shot at varying distances; standing, kneeling, turnaround, sitting and whatever else one thinks of. Each shooter at the designated target will call the type of shot and the distance for each shot. Members will pay $4.00 per night; non-members will pay $6.00 per night. All new members, subs or part-time shooters wanting to shoot the 2015 league are required to pay the target fee of $ Those league members who shot the 2014 league and paid their target fee are not responsible for the target fee again. I ask that your target fees be paid by the 3 rd week. Those who shoot as subs or every other week pay the league fee only for the weeks they shoot. All league members who pay their fees by the 3 rd week will have their league fees reduced by one week. Members will pay (16 weeks x 4.00=$64.00) and non-members will pay (16 weeks x $6.00=$96.00). If you elect to pay as you go then you are responsible for the entire amount with no reduction. Remember, if you do not pay your entire league fees due the club your membership will not be renewed until they are paid in full, this is a club rule. This is a non-competitive league: scores are kept for your improvement only. Scoring will be 15 center ring, 10 next ring and 5 for all arrows hitting the animal portion of the target. The league Banquet will be April 25 th, 2015, at 6pm. We will need help in setting up and cleanup with the time to be announced during the 2015 league. Work hours are given for the time you donate. Since this league will run 16 weeks and the banquet will be held on April 25 th there is no room for a make up in the event of a cancelled night due to bad weather. There is a telephone call list utilized for this purpose. One call will be made. Please make sure we have a number where you can be reached or a message may be left. Presidents Corner - Larry McNew Requirements for Lifetime Members - As I mentioned in last months newsletter, active lifetime members will need to turn in a work hour card starting September See me to obtain a work card. Work cards for lifetime members are green, and cards for the rest of the members are yellow. An active lifetime member is someone that is using the club monthly, weekly or daily. Also please take note that a work card is required to renew your membership. Recently a large number of members have asked to renew without turning in a work card. The club rules and regulations state that a card has to be turned in to get the discounted price. If you lose your card you need to get a replacement and have it filled out. No work card, no discount. The Board of Directors will be enforcing this regulation. Deer Harvests Results - As the second week of the archery deer season goes by, reports of successful hunters are coming in. Jim McGinnis tagged a doe the first few days of the season in Jackson county. Mike Burgor was also successful in Jackson and harvested a 7 point buck. Jeff Jackson sent me a picture of a big racked buck, but I don t have weight or rack size. Larry Brian tagged his doe in Wayne county. Remember that if you harvest a deer you must do the following to enter the contest. I need to be contacted with the following information. The weight of the deer, if it is a buck the size of the rack and the county in which you were hunting when you got your deer. To weigh your deer, you can do the following. Have a weight slip from a meat processor or weigh it on the club scale which can be found on the work bench in the club house. 3 Messages from the Board of Directors Karl Keesee Hello everyone! The kid's are back in YAP and the snow is going to fly soon. There are a couple of things I would like to mention. First of all the speed limit is set at 10 MPH several reasons, mainly because we are a family club with kids roaming the grounds and wildlife that resides at our club. The kids like to explore before and after classes and are welcome to do so. It is always good to see them around and taking an interest in not only archery, but also the great outdoors. The wildlife wonders freely throughout our grounds and they are becoming more tolerant and visible to people. All that being said, please slow down and protect both the kid' and the wildlife. There is always a danger of ice under the snow. We do plow, however with a gravel lot we can only remove so much snow and there is always a danger of ice hidden beneath. This can cause you to slide around the corners or not be able to stop if something or someone runs out in front of you.. Please be-careful and slow down I also want to remind you and please tell your kids, the animals that live here are wild. Even though the wildlife seems to be tame, they are not.. Please do not feed them or try to pet them. Being wild, they may bite or kick, and besides potato chips and candy really are not good for them! Also, if you see an animal that is acting strange such as a raccoon out during the day or a fox that is not afraid, please tell a board member as these animals may be sick and we need to know. Annual Lincoln Deer Contest The following information for the Lincoln Bowmen Deer Contest has been submitted by Larry McNew. Read it carefully and then go get that BIG ONE! Here is the info for the contest. It is open to all club members who hold a valid membership in the club as of October 1, Only deer taken under fair chase in the state of Michigan with a bow and arrow are eligible. The state is divided into two units which consists of the north zone and a south zone. The north zone covers the upper peninsula and the northern lower (zones 1 & 2). The south zone covers the southern part of the state (zone 3). Prizes will be given to each zone as follows: 1. Largest rack 2. Heaviest buck 3. Heaviest doe A witnessed weight slip is required for the heaviest buck and doe or the member can contact our chairman, Larry McNew ( ) to have their deer weighed. 4 October Recipe - Easy Venison Steak Easy Venison Steak Ingredients 3 tablespoons flour 2 teaspoons Mrs. Dash Seasoning mix (original) 1 teaspoon garlic salt 1 teaspoon onion salt 2 lbs. Venison Steak Mix all dry ingredients together Coat venison steaks with flour mixture Melt butter over medium head Saute steaks in butter for 10 minutes or until done.
