1 SUBMISSION TO THE NUNAVUT WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT BOARD FOR Information: Decision: X Issue: Regional wildlife priority workshops and resulting Kitikmeot, Kivalliq and Qikiqtaaluk Regional Wildlife Priorities ( ) lists. Background: At the Regional Wildlife Organizations 2013 Annual General Meetings in Cambridge Bay (October 3 rd ), Arviat (November 1 st ), and Iqaluit (November 15 th ), the NWMB hosted 1-day workshops to assist the Regional Wildlife Organizations and Hunters and Trappers Organizations in developing lists of regional wildlife priorities for the period of Regional Wildlife Priorities are used by the NWMB when evaluating applications for the Nunavut Wildlife Research Trust and Nunavut Wildlife Studies Fund. Overview: At each of the workshops the Hunters and Trappers Organization from each region, and co-management partners conducting work within each region had an opportunity to present a list of their top wildlife priorities. After the presentations had concluded, NWMB staff compiled region wide lists that were voted on by members of the Hunters and Trappers Organizations and the Regional Wildlife Organizations. The voting was conducted to produce lists of the 30 most important priorities (6 groups of 5 priorities). Following the workshops, NWMB staff produced finalized lists of Regional Wildlife Priorities for (Appendix 1). These finalized lists were sent to the Regional Wildlife Organizations shortly after the completion of the workshops with a letter requesting that their Boards review the list and give their approval (Appendix 2). Option (Staff Recommendation): As these lists were developed by the Regional Wildlife Organizations and Hunters and Trappers Organizations, staff recommend that the Board approve the Kitikmeot, Kivalliq and Qikiqtaaluk Regional Wildlife Priorities ( ) lists. Sample motion: MOVED that the NWMB approve the Kitikmeot, Kivalliq and Qikiqtaaluk Regional Wildlife Priorities ( ) lists.
