2 GENERAL INFORMATION 1. This championship is for all KSA affiliated clubs and members in the Tshwane Region. The dojo must be situated in Tshwane and the competitor must be a South African Citizen. Clubs who have not affiliated in 2018 must affiliate to KSA and Tshwane prior to the event. Please contact secretary@karatetshwane.org for more details. 2. The focus of the championship is to select the; Elite Team: a regional team which will compete at the Gauteng championship on 8 & 9 February 2019*. These draws will use the losers pool system. Development Team: to create an opportunity for developing athletes to participate. Our development team will also participate in the Gauteng Development championship on 01 June These draws will use the Repechage system. 3. Venue: Hall for Disabled sport; 227 Maltzan Street, corner of Church Str, Pretoria-West. (Next to Pilditch Stadium) 4. Entry Fee: Elite: R200 per event Development: R100 per event Spectators: Free 5. Banking Details: Karate Tshwane, Standard Bank, A/C , Centurion Branch ( ). Please pay with reference Club Name Regionals. No individuals may pay directly, only through your club. 6. Entries close: Midnight on Sunday, 20 January 2019, including proof of payment. This will allow enough time for Sensei s and parents to confirm that their students are correctly registered. Entries are done online via and proof of payment should be mailed to: Rudi Bruwer secretary@karatetshwane.org Entries will not be approved on Sportdata without the proof of payment. Important: Entries will be visible on the above website and must be verified by the athletes themselves before Wednesday, 23 January, at which time the draws and time schedule will be published. Any alterations after this time (including incorrect weight), will be charged R100 per entry. 7. Age: Age of the athletes will be calculated as the age on 23 October Divisions: Elite and Development Notes: 1. Previous Elite team members (competitors who have been awarded Tshwane colours during 2017 or 2018) may not enter for development. 2. This limitation is per category. E.g. If colours were for kumite, the restriction is not applied to kata. 3. Competitors who qualify may enter for either or both the Elite and Development Championship.

This has now CHANGED and competitors may enter both.

4 Disability: For each category (Children, Cadets and Junior), may be combined depending of the number of entries. Only Kata, no kumite. 9. Weigh-in: There will be no official weigh-in. Please note that the competitor / parent is responsible to ensure the student is in the correct weight category for the duration of the year. Changes in category may only be requested by submitting a letter from your Doctor explaining the change in weight. 10. Start: Briefing 07:15 (All Judges, officials and coaches) Opening: 07:45 Competitors: Schedule will be available the Thursday before the event. Please be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS It is the responsibility of the competitor/ parent to ensure that the competitor is correctly equipped for the match. Gum guard and Red/Blue gloves are compulsory. Elite 8-13 years and Development: One colour Shin/Instep required. Facemask, body protector and chest guard (females) are recommended but not compulsory. If an Elite competitor qualifies for Provincials these items will have to be acquired. Elite 14 years and older: All equipment as specified by WKF. GENERAL CHAMPIONSHIP RULES 1. Should any championship rules/arrangements be disregarded, the offending person/participant or spectator may be required to leave the championship venue immediately. 2. Athletes take part at their own risk. No claim may be made against Karate Tshwane or any of the officials officiating on the day of the championship. 3. It is the responsibility of every instructor to explain the conditions/rules to each athlete and/or parent before entering the championship. 6. WKF rules will apply during the championship. 7. Athletes who do not arrive or who are disqualified will not be removed from the draw sheets but will receive a Kiken and the draw sheets will NOT be altered.

5 Coaches and Coaching 8. Only the appointed coach may coach an athlete during the event. Only one coach will be allowed on a floor at the time. 9. Coaches shall always during the tournament, wear their CLUB tracksuits. No regional, Provincial or National tracksuits will be allowed. 12. The coach whilst busy coaching, must sit in the chair provided and must not interfere with the smooth running of the match by word or deed. Non-Competitors 13. No non-competitor will be allowed in the competition area. 14. No team managers are allowed in the competition area. 15. Athletes that are not busy competing will not be allowed in the competition area. Tournament Administration 16. No coach/team manager/parent or any other person may interfere with the duties of any Table Official, Chief Tournament Official, Referee or judge. Complaints can be lodged via the tournament director by the relevant team managers. A deposit of R500 and the written complaint must be handed to the Tournament Director. 17. No changes will be made to any draw sheet by any person other than the Chief Tournament Official. 18. Each club must provide one (1) table official who shall attend a free training course and officiate on the day of the tournament. Please enter their name on SET online registration. 19. Each club must provide at least one (1) referee who shall attend the referee course and referee on the day of the tournament. The competitor will have the planned time for their event online. They should be at the venue at least 1 hour before that time. The competitor will be able to leave after they have completed their events. Qualifying Entries for Gauteng Championship 6 competitors per division may qualify to go to Gauteng Karate Trials. All Elite competitors who are selected will be automatically entered for the Gauteng Championship and the clubs invoiced. Top 4 will be decided by normal competition structure and qualify for full regional colours. A further 2 competitors MAY be selected by the Tournament Director and they will receive Development colours. The criteria for selection are If there are less than two HDSA (Historically Disadvantaged South Africans) people in the division, choose the HDSA competitors. Otherwise, choose on merit. This could mean that no additional students are selected. Note that regional colours are only awarded to competitors who compete at the Provincial Championship.
