The championship will take place on Sunday May 22, 2016 at Queens College located at Kissena Blvd. in Flushing, New York. Please come and join us, to celebrate traditional karate-do in New York and the world. Our championship is one of the original New York Traditional Karate League, sanction events and our goal is to provide quality tournaments in New York, United States and the World. The league has done a lot of great things and continues to recognize and honor our dedicated athletes, officials and staff from our karate community. Our championship will begin at 8:00am with our opening ceremonies and all winners of the adult grand champion Kata and Kumite will receive a Grand Champion Award from Master Toyotaro Miyazaki. Competition as always, promises to be as exciting and challenging as ever. I hope that you can join us and be a part of our history. In order for the competition to run smoothly, we need your help by pre-registering for this event. All registrations must be submitted by Saturday May 21, 2016 no later than 5pm at Kai Leung s Shotojuku. No late applications will be accepted at the door. Please encourage your students to register early and there is a complete separation of divisions to ensure fairness and competitiveness for all who wish to participate. Grand Champions will receive a Special Award and championship certificate. All participants will receive a certificate of participation. Traditional white Gi. No jewelry allowed in competition. Trimmed nails required. White shirt, blue tie, navy blue jacket, gray slacks, black shoes. Only kata from a traditional karate style are permitted. 10 to 4 th kyu contestants must perform kata of appropriate rank. Advance contestants and belts may perform any traditional kata. Weapons: Traditional weapons of proper weight and design will be permitted: Only traditional kobudo weapons like the Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Eku are allowed. Kumite: Equipment: Coaches: Note: Modify WKF / USA Karate Rules: Light head contact is only permitted for adult and belts. Matches are one minute stop time, eight (8) point scale belts is two minutes stop time, 35 and over is two minutes running time. Uncontrolled techniques will result in penalty or disqualification. Protective equipment for hand, feet, groin & mouthpieces are Mandatory. Safety glasses with a restraining band will be allowed in kumite. Head gear and WKF approved chest protector is highly recommended. Only Coaches with proper ID and attire will be allowed on the competition floor. Coaches permit for the day can be acquired. The Tournament Director and Division Controller reserves the right to change, add or combine divisions. All fees are non-refundable. In the spirit of KARATE-DO, proper conduct is required from competitors and Instructors alike or else suspension will result from all future NYTKL events.
