2 GREETINGS It is my great pleasure to inaugurate the very first San Francisco Korean Consul General Cup Taekwondo Championship.Iwishtoextendmywarmestwelcometoalltheparticipatingathletesandofficials. IespeciallywouldliketothanktheorganizersoftheTaekwondoFoundationincludingPresidentPyoungWHoe Koo,foralltheirdedicatedeffortsinpreparingforthisChampionship. LadiesandGentlemen, Taekwondo has thrived into an international sport boasting 70 million practitioners in 200 countries and regionsworldwide.itwasfirstadoptedasanofficialsportinggamebackatthe2000sydneyolympicgames. As a traditional Korean Martial Art, Taekwondo emphasizes physical training as well as mental exercise and spiritual discipline. Taekwondo encourages its global practitioners to learn such core values as courtesy, perseveranceandselfwcontrolaswellastonurturethespiritsofcaringandrespectforotherpeoples,cultures, andcustoms. IampleasedtonotethatagrowingnumberofAmericans,nottomentionCalifornians,arebecomingmore andmoreenthusiasticaboutpracticingtaekwondo.ithinktheenthusiasmfortaekwondothatflourishedin the U.S. in the 1970s sowed the seeds for the success of the Korean Wave or Hallyu, which enjoys great popularityallacrosstheworldinvariousformssuchaskwpop,kwfood,kwfashion,andkwdrama.itismydesire thattaekwondowillcontinuetoplayavitalroleinfurtherenhancingtheunderstandingandrecognitionof Koreaanditscultures. I hope that all the participating athletes will have a chance to demonstrate their skills earned through hard practices with true sportsmanship. 18 LIABILITY WAIVER, RELEASE, AND, IMDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT 1 ST SF KOREAN CONSUL GENERAL CUP TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP In consideration for the privilege of participating in the 1st SF Korean Consul General Cup Taekwondo Championship, I hereby assume the risk during participation, and waive any and all rights to recovery from, (for personal injury sustained during 1st SF Korean Consul General Cup Taekwondo Championship), and subsequently hold harmless and will indemnify, the Organizers, James Logan High School, California Taekwondo Foundation, Grandmaster Pyoung H. Koo, and any agents, representatives, or spokespersons of such above mentioned entities. The AGREEMENT shall apply to any form of participation related to the Tournament, and is not limited to: general participation, traveling to and from the competition, competing during the competition, watching others compete, coaching, aiding, participating, as well as any and all activities related to the Tournament. As a participant, I recognize and assume the risk that, as a participant in the Fighting Competitions, other participants and competitors will be using all techniques possible to win such competitions.
