1 Ranger Rumble Rules RANGER RUMBLE RULES 2019 Tournament Type Mission Focus on: Safety and Health Introducing competition to students Teaching sportsmanship and Sport Jiu-Jitsu Creating a community & family event Divisions All the competitors are divided into divisions closer in weight, age & belt level. Each division has a maximum of 8 competitors. White belt competes in the SUMO GAME Yellow belt & over compete in SPORT JIU-JITSU Note: Some colour belts may compete also in the Sumo Game if we need more participants to challenge our white belts. Double Elimination Tournament Time Competitors have a minimum of two fights Sumo Until one of the competitors is out of the match area Sport Jiu-Jitsu 15 years Sport Jiu-Jitsu x 1.30 minutes of continuous fighting. 30 seconds rest between the rounds. 2 x 2 minutes of continuous fighting. 1-minute rest between the rounds. Recovery Time Between two matches a recovery time of maximum 5 minutes will be allowed. The Mat-Referee could allow more rest if needed. Overtime If there is a tie, there will be a 30 seconds overtime round. If additional overtime is required, the first point scored will be the winner.
2 Ranger Rumble Rules Prizes Awards for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place. Dressing and Personal Requirements Mandatory for all Proper Gi - with sleeves no more than one fist distance up the arm from the wrist Mandatory for Sport Jiu-Jitsu foot guard, hand guard minimum ½ inch thick pliable material Authorized for Sport Jiu-Jitsu Head gear. Mouth guard. Groin guard (under the Gi). Chest protection for female competitors. Hygiene Finger and toe nails should be trimmed and short. Long hair must be tied up with soft hair-band. Not allowed: Anything that may injure or endanger the opponent. Torn, dirty or smelly equipment. Eye glasses. Contact lenses may be worn at own personal risk. Jewelry. Hair pins. Ring Dimension Match Area: 14 x 14 (young kids), 16 x16 (older kids), 20 x 20 (adults). Safety area 2 Ranger Rumble Officials 1 coordinator is charged with supervision of the event. 1 First Aids Certified easily recognizable. Each Ring has: 1 Mat-Referee (MR) in charged with supervision of the match.
3 Ranger Rumble Rules Side-Referee (SR) are in charged to count all points of each competitor that are to a legal. target area, using a legal technique, while standing and while on the ground. 2 Table-Referee (TR) are in charged for the secretariat: Timekeeper and Scorekeeper. Mat-Referee (note): Should inform to participants and public when it is a fight for the first for the 1 st /2 nd /3 rd position. Side-Referees (note): Should exchange their hand counter between the two rounds. Sumo Game The purpose is to introduce white belt students to competition. The first competitor pushing or pulling his/her opponent out of the Mat area is the winner. Offences Use of excessive contact Attacking illegal target areas Negligent or reckless attacks Using illegal techniques Running out of bounds to avoid fighting Wasting time on purpose Falling on the ground to avoid attack Continuing to fight after being ordered to stop Disregard the MR s instructions Disrespect to officials or other competitors Unsportsmanlike conduct Forbidden techniques Punching & Kicking Scratching, Slapping, Pinching, Tickling & Biting Hair Pulling Chokes and Locks Sport Jiu-Jitsu - Rules Generalities Sport Jiu-Jitsu is composed of 3 parts: Part A: Punches, Strikes and Kicks. Part B: Gripping, Takedown and Throwing. Part C: Ground fighting, locks and strangulations.
4 Ranger Rumble Rules Force Required to Score Techniques are to be executed with due regard and care for the safety of the opponent. Only clean crisp techniques delivered to the body's legal target areas with light/medium contact will be awarded points. Excessive Contact: A call for excessive contact indicates that a referee saw a competitor using strength or force more than the force necessary to score a point. Any strike, throw, takedown, or submission hold delivered with malicious intent will be considered excessive force and may result in immediate disqualification. Unsportsmanlike Conduct Disrespect or unsportsmanlike conduct can result in immediate disqualification, either for a fight or for the tournament. Sport Jiu-Jitsu - Points Gain of points Points will be given by Side Referees only on clean and controlled techniques. Part A: Punches, strikes and kicks In the middle of the Match area, the competitors start facing each other in a fighting stance. Legal area Chest. Solar plexus. Ribs. Abdomen. Inner and outer thighs. 15+ only: Top, side, and back of the head (light contact only). Illegal area Facial area (Children only). Neck. Throat. Spine. Kidneys. Groin. All joints. Punching below the belt. Low kicks other than outer and inner thigh unless they are a legal. sweep or a round house. Kick & Striking techniques on the ground. 1 point Punches and Kicks to the legal areas
5 Ranger Rumble Rules points 15 + & green belts: Punches and Kicks to the opponent s head light contact. Penalties Accidental hits to illegal area. Forbidden Intentional hits to illegal area. As soon as one competitor holds the opponent: punch, strike and kick are no longer allowed except when they are performed simultaneously with the initial grip. Part B: Gripping, Takedown and Throwing. Locks and strangles in a standing position are not allowed under 15 years old. Once a competitor takes hold of his/her opponent, both competitors will have 15 seconds to do a legal takedown. Transition to the ground must be with due regard and care for the safety of the opponent. 1 point Takedown. 2 points Throw or Sweep causes one foot to leave the mat. 3 points Throw or Sweep causes both feet to leave the mat. Penalties Kicking or punching. Throw the opponent from the fighting area to the area outside. Forbidden Foot Sweep at mid-calf or above. Any improper throw or takedown considered dangerous. Throwing the opponent with any lock or strangulation. Techniques that cause a player to land on his/her neck or head. Part C: Ground fighting, Locks and Strangulations Locks and strangles are not allowed under 15 years old. They must be applied within view of the referee. If the referee is not able to monitor the technique, s/he will call BREAK. A competitor can go from one mount (5 seconds) to another one (5 seconds) a maximum 3 times. Note to Mat Referee: if a competitor loose his/her helmet during the ground fighting, just continue the fight as no punching and kicking are allowed. 1 point Side Mount for 5 seconds. Passing the guard. Escape from a hold down. Sweep turnover into the top guard to side mount. 2 points Knee on Belly for 5 seconds. Front Mount for 5 seconds. Back Mount for 5 seconds.
6 Ranger Rumble Rules Turn opponent from turtle position to his back. Penalties Put the fingers inside the sleeves or trousers of the opponent. Put the hand into the face of the opponent. Punching or kicking the opponent. Forbidden To push the opponent on the mat in a dangerous way. Attacking nerve or vital points. Jumping on a downed opponent. Illegal area: eyes, ears, nose, hair, groin area, back of the head. Forbidden 15 + Lock on the spinal column, neck, fingers or toes. Twisted locks at the knew or foot. Apply any strangulation with a belt. Penalties The Mat-Referee is empowered to penalize a competitor at any time with warning, loss of points & disqualification. For minor offences, the Mat-Referee will try to follow this model (but not obliged): -1 points or a warning for the 1 st warning on the offence. -2 points for the 2 nd warning on the same offence. Disqualification for the 3 rd warning on the same offence. Offences Use of excessive contact or trying to injure the opponent. Attacking illegal target areas. Negligent or reckless attacks. Using illegal techniques. Running out of bounds to avoid fighting. Wasting time on purpose. Falling on the ground to avoid attack. Continuing to fight after being ordered to stop. Disregard the MR s instructions. Disrespect to officials or other competitors. Unsportsmanlike conduct. Illegal Techniques Head butts. Hair pulling. Scratching, Slapping, Pinching & Biting. Elbow, knee & finger strikes. Finger, Toe & Heel Locks.
7 Ranger Rumble Rules Blind Techniques. Attack to Nerve Points of The Head, Face, Or Neck Areas. Respiratory Chokes (across the throat). CHILDREN - Any technique that puts severe pressure on the neck and all strangulation techniques. Sport Jiu-Jitsu Winner Win by Submission A contestant wins the fight when their opponent signals their submission to a legal technique. The tap can be verbal. Win by Decision In some situations, the Mat-Referee might break a submission technique before injury or the willingness of tapping. Win by Points The contestant that scored the maximum points during both rounds is the winner of the fight. Tie In case of a tie score, overtime will be allowed. Cases Not Mentioned in The Regulation Any incident not mentioned in the regulation will be dealt with according to the decision made by the Mat-Referee and the approval of the Side-Referees.
